Kowa 6x30 YFII Binoculars. Leupold BX-1 Yosemite 6x30 (discontinued). Best Binoculars for $100!
The Leupold Yosemite 6x30 and 8x30 binoculars were Bose's favorites. But when they were discontinued, Bose found these Kowa YF II set of binoculars in 6x30 configuration. These Kowas are Bose's favorite pair of field optics. They are 100% waterproof and feature a tough and tactile rubber armoured shell. Eye relief is a stunning 20mm - perfect for use over Bose's eyeglasses. The field of view is 140m at 1000m, 8 degrees - again, perfect for use at sporting events and in the field.
What Bose loves:
-Waterproof and dry nitrogen filled
-Ergonomic and lightweight
-Fully multi-coated optics
-Armored protective coating

I bought one of these less than a week ago. Your appraisal is on point. Everything you said about it is true. So far, as a result of watching your videos, I’ve bought the Nikon Action Ex 7x50. Great unit. So clear and crisp. Today I found something I didn’t even know existed and I immediately bought it upon trying it. It’s made by Sky Rover and it’s the 8x30 Ed porro prism. An absolutely stunning piece of engineering for $360 Australian. For reference the Kowa YF2 6x30 cost $290Aus. I have sat with both and compared them side by side and the Sky Rover is amazing. So is the Kowa obviously, but it’s a close but clear second, in my non professional humble opinion. I couldn’t wait to comment on this video about this. Someone is going to benefit from this comment. I hope it’s you 😜
I have had Leupold Yosemite 6x30 and loved it. Super sharp on axis rivalling alpha binos. Super comfortable in the hand. I want it again but it is discontinued. This Kowa 6x30 is surely the same glass in other cover.
I have Swarovski EL 8.5x42 and Kowa YFII 6x30. For $100, the performance of 6x30 is amazing indeed. I also had YFII 8x30, which I sold after one quick look through.

I held onto both for comparison and contrast of magnification, but I must say, my 6x30 unit gets much more use. Happy viewings!

Check out my review of the Nikon Extreme 7x35 EX unit. If you love the Kowa YFII in 6x30, the Nikon will please your need for a tank-like bino

@@AttorneyBose Do check out Swarovski EL or NL pure binoculars if you are interested in optics. They are at a different level altogether.

Yep .. I've got swarro SCL 10x42s on my tripod and kowa 6x30s on my harness.. I put my kowa s on the tripod and was shocked. Not sure how they would stack up if the kowa s were 10s but no C A at 6x.

I have Kowa 6x30 for 100 EUR and thermal camera for 1900 EUR. Swarowsky is overpriced. You get no real value for spent money.
Very interesting. How would it compare to the Nikon Action 7x35?
I may buy one of these only because I am 63 years old and have trembling hand which gives me a shaky image on my Kowa Genesis 8x33 an excellent binocular and image. If I could afford it I would buy a Leica Ultravid HD 7x42 I heard many good reviews online how nice those are and good for older binocular viewers. However, at $2,300 it is not in my low-income budget on social security I was lucky to get the Kowa Genesis 8x33 at a discount new 8 years ago for $850.00 which is still a lot and the most i have spent on a top-of-the-line quality binocular. Though life has changed for the worst for me in health and age so I only buy what I can afford.
You should get some Zoins.
Hello Mr. Bose, thanks for these videos, your content is really useful to make decisions! Could you help me with something? I just received my Kowa YFII 8x30. All good with the optics, but the focus wheel is weird. When turning it clockwise its smooth and soft. But it is quite hard to turn it counterclockwise and makes a little noise, is that normal for this unit? Thanks!

It will loosen in time with use. The weird sound you are hearing is the grease within the mechanism, that's all. Happy viewings! For $100, those Kowas are unparalleled! They are the former Leupold Yosemite model.

@@AttorneyBose Thanks! However, I am going to return this unit. This cannot be normal at all, the resistance of the wheel is not uniform and it's too uncomfortable to turn the wheel counterclockwise while looking at something (which makes tuning the focus quickly a nightmare). I hope the replacement unit doesn't have this same issue. Greetings from Colombia!

@@camilopaz2000 I bought both 6x30 and 8x30. 6x30 is an amazing Binocular. 20mm eyelief, 5mm exit pupil, 8 degrees field of view are numbers found in $4000 binoculars. I own Swarvoski EL 8.5x42 as well. I sold 8x30 on eBay after one quick look through.

@@jasonkwon1994 your unit has a smooth focusing wheel? Or is it "spongy", hard to turn and has some serious play before turning? I know the optics are awesome, but for birding that's a serious issue...

@@camilopaz2000 Just get Swarovski EL for serious birding. EL will blow your mind. It's cheaper since the release of NL pure. Yes the YF focus wheel is not as smooth as EL but I had no trouble getting sharp focus. I found 6x30 much better than 8x30. For $100, it's amazing.
