Because English is a very very universal language and in most international countries outside the US, they expect English to be spoken. I think if you are going to other countries you should at least learn some phrases, laws, societal norms, etc. to be respectful. Thankfully I've been lucky enough to learn Arabic, English, and Spanish but I would love to learn Korean or Mandarin

They didn’t know you’re a Russian. That’s why they were not impressed with your fluent English 😀

I lived in Korea for 2 years and visited frequently for 4 years, and my Korean was never that good! You do sound like a native speaker to me, that's incredible.

Amazing !! My mother language is Spanish but recently I’ve felt attracted by Korean language

I think it's funny when ppl ask why any foreigner speaks Korean so well lol. I get asked that after saying a few phrases memorized over the course of 4 yrs. Not fluent but ppl always ask if I lived in Korea. Probably bc I use quite a bit of well-phrased slang terms.
