When I was in school, there was a boy that would pop the emergency hatch on the school bus roof every morning, while it was still dark outside, and dance to the strobe light and that buzzy sound like he was in the club. Or he’d dive from seat to seat like he was in an action movie lol. By the time the driver flipped the lights on and stood up to see who did it, he’d be in another seat acting like he was asleep 🤣. Good times.

So I have a couple of international friends (one from Korea, two from Japan), and I talked to them about their high school compared to American ones so here’s some American high school things that may seem weird to those from other countries: (Keep in mind: this is a generalization and your school may or may not have these) - cops patrolling the hallways - an American flag hanging in every classroom - fights during lunch or randomly out in the hallways - screaming or shouting either from the hallway or another classroom and you don’t really question it - standing for the pledge of allegiance every fucking morning - SPIRIT WEEK - competitive ass kahoot games - drills in the case of: school shooter, fire, tornado, etc - the occasional bomb threats - pacer test

Schools in the US differ greatly depending in what economic community they reside. Both of these schools, even the public one, seemed to be in wealthy areas. It would be neat to react to the different types schools in each country (ie inner city public, rural, suburban, private, hybrid)

  • @prestonheldibridle2043

    @prestonheldibridle2043

    4 жыл бұрын

@@renderz8435 It depends on gow you define 'better'. Private schools are definitely more prestigious, which is what I think you're asking, but I wouldn't necessarily say they are better. They can often offer an environment that may better prepare students for many aspects of college/university, but there are also a lot of issues regarding private schooling. 'Private school' is a term that includes any school that runs on private dollars rather than public funding, which means they dont have to follow a lot of rules that are attached to federal and state money. This can mean creating a really creative and educationally sound program for the students that would have been financially impossible otherwise, or, it can mean a rigid, restrictive environment that teaches based on the worldviews of donors rather than current science or educational standards, and can be harmful to many students. Because they are privately funded and often require paid tuition, only fairly wealthy families can send their children to private schools, unless a student is awarded a scholarship. This often creates a more homogeneous student body in terms of class than would be found at most public schools. So, a student that attended a private school would generally have a lot more opportunities open to them regarding future schooling/career. I, however, would probably never send my kids to a private school even if I had the money to. I think there are some things that can only be learned when you are raised in a space with people of different backgrounds and beliefs. It is important to note that depending on the area, a private school may be the best and safest option. Again, the US is so big that a rural town in, let's say, the Bible Belt, is going to be much different than a small city in northern California, or a suburb outside Philadelphia, or the inner city of Chicago.

People tend to assume private schools are proper and whatnot but it all just depends on what school you go to. Not all are the same. The guys in my grade do "bird calls/noises" (its actually just them randomly screaming we just call it that cause we had a strict old lady sub complain to our teacher about us making "bird calls") they will just randomly scream in classes, the hallways, at games, and especially at lunch and the teachers have given up trying to stop us and the rest of the school has gotten used to it as well. so we'll just be casually eating lunch and there is a random (very strange) scream, but nobody notices anymore you just continue your conversation or whatever lol (we're sophomores btw, we're just really immature)

This thing about American public schools is that your experience GREATLY depends on the type community you come from. The difference between a public school in a rich area and a public school in a struggling area is crazy. Everything from teachers, lunches, school supplies, types of students (rich schools tend to be predominantly white), and graduation rates are wildly different.

Tbh I’ve gone to three different high schools. One was rich, one was a homeschool, and the other was in a poor/average area. I will say that at the rich school kids did a LOT more drugs and in general cared a lot less about grades but more cared about getting into college. In the poorer area less did drugs but more teen pregnancy’s, grades are better but graduation rate lower. I will also say I preferred the kids and students in the average/poor area school... they all just cared more about each other. Really it depends directly on the community (town/city) and less on the overall rich or poor imo. Let it be known tho that in the rich school the state it was marijuana was legal and a lot easier to get ur hands on if ur young. In the poorer area it was illegal... and for the most part kids would joke about doing drugs but actually get disgusted at anyone who did them. Of corse it really just depends...

I can’t speak on private schools, but I did go to a college predatory charter school and say from my personal experience, we started out freshman year with 127 kids in my grade, by the time we graduated (class of 2020) there were 84 kids left. We had 15-30 kids in each class (English, American government & Econ, etc.) but 30 was the absolute most and our teachers would typically quit before or by the end of the school year, due to our the actual rooms we were being taught in being way too cramped and bullying.

ngl if I was in a private school or "Korean like system" chances are I would be more strict on myself to do my best and not disappoint the teacher but yet again it's all up to self-discipline and hard work. But no wonder why Asians or Koreans are so hard on themselves, its bc of the regulated school system that made them have that mindset plus their hardworking society and such.

They're generally bigger and fall somewhere in between the private school you saw and the public school you saw atmosphere wise. If your normal schooling was similar to the private school you watched though, then yeah public schools here are very very very different lol.

I can never relate to any high schools but it’s always fun to see different schools I almost wished high school vlogs were more common when I was in middle school so I knew what I was getting myself into 😂 My high school was a religious, all girls, college preparatory school (even though I wasn’t religious it seemed to be a really good school) It started at 8 and ended at 2:20, we had 4 classes that were 1 hour and 15 minutes log, half an hour for lunch and a 55 minute break/study period between first and second period and the cafeteria was open for breakfast and stuff It was pretty free cause upperclassmen could leave early if they had no classes and seniors could come late and leave in the middle and come back if they had no classes and cellphones were allowed in class but most people used them for class purposes and not fooling around The classes were extremely hard though and I had 8 hours of homework/week night and 20+ hours of studying/homework on the weekends. I didn’t even take any AP classes But I guess it’s making university extremely easy cause now, I put in so little effort to have a 4.0 GPA but it makes college really weird

every school here in Australia has a uniform, but one private school I went to was extremely formal and went all out with teachers dressed in these black robes with the principals difference only being a red stripe in the middle. we had hour long assemblys with a music solo every week, sang religious songs every week and sat in a huge hall with chairs for every single student. we had prefects and everything, it was an amazing experience. (there was a street of restaurants next to the school so seniors were extremely lucky, year 11-12) our celebration night was held at Hamer Hall near Flinders Street in the city, everything was so professional and the school orchestra mainly consisted of music scholarship students (last year we had a song writer write a song for us, song is called Within Reach). We had a year level center (entire building or large room dedicated to a single year level that has lockers and sometimes tables and chairs) and years 10-12 get a kitchen so we could cook lunch at school (most schools in Melbourne have this, even public ones).cWe even had real food in our canteen which was like a mini café. But there are even more modern schools such as Hailybury (city campus) where they outright look like an office building with a school canteen like a restaurant..

That Friday, I had 4 tests I didnt know how to complete, but I did anyways, then I got at least 10 paper assignments from each teacher, some giving me online assignments as well (I had my 5 main classes I took, so around 50 papers total) and so I went home, took a nap, woke up, and got straight to work around 5, had to stop at 6 to eat dinner, then got back to work. Mind you, I didnt complete Monday's homework, so I was doing the homework for Mon-Fri plus school work from Tues-Thrus. I had it all done by 8:30, the time I go to bed, then I slept knowing my weekend would be better. Mind you, I was still very ill, stuffy nose, headache, sought cough, but I was a lot better. I hated that week but after treatment was done, I was so happy.

You're fortunate that your school has so many classes with college credits available to you. Not every one has the opportunity to boast that.

I come from a rural school so only few kids get to do that and they have to pay for their classes (they give you cheaper tuition tho). I'm aiming for my associate's by the time i graduate next year

Lucky. In Michigan when I was in high school the required classed were so many there was no time for dual enrollment. Since I graduated in 2012 the requirements were reduced.

This makes me want to record a blog in my school and let them see how different the atmosphere are in each school depending in the state, city and county. ((I would also record from Puerto Rico but sadly I already moved to the US so if I do I'll have to tell my friends to do so.))

Great video, this was very interesting! The class with only 4 people in it was probably an elective, so other students chose courses at that time that were more popular than the one she is attending (many schools won't keep a class on the schedule for so few students, usually there needs to be something like 10-12 people at least)

Ah, I'm not from either of these countries so it's weird to watch since here in Australia school starts at 9 am, school usually ends around 3:30 pm and we wear uniforms~ And with lunch we didn't eat in a cafeteria~ As soon as we leave class we can eat anywhere in school grounds as long as it's not out of bounds. Also, we have a canteen but you don't have to buy from it lmao

Okay but both of those schools look so rich 😂 Anyways I have stories from my first year in middle school (6th grade) and I’d like to show them to show the experiences that I get to have: 1- A kid cut upon his head in multiple places after falling from a stationary bike in gym class (I was there) and he was screaming and jumping around as blood fell onto the floor- he had to get stitches and now I have a fear of blood and when I see blood I become nauseous and my vision goes blurry (fun(sarcasm)) 2- A kid planned to stab these these older kids with a pocket knife because they had teased his little sister. He told his friend his plans and said if this friend said anything then the kid would stab him too- anyways the friend told the school and when the assistant principal confronted the kid he tried to stab her but he missed I think and I guess he was expelled- I also heard a rumor that he was sent to a prison for kids but I don’t know if that is true or not 3- (this is just something people like to joke about) so we have three schools that feed into the middle school I attend and two schools (the one I went to and another) kinda hate each other since the school I went to believe(d and s) that the other school is for rich snobs and that the school is rich (I have to be honest and say that while some kids are nice the “popular” kids are jerks)(okay but the neighborhood has a tennis court, swimming pool and more and the houses are really nice) so these elementary school kids decided to fight on this hill between the two schools and apparently there was a ton of kids that were there and it was epic. So now when two kids want to fight then people say “hey why don’t you battle it out on the hill” or “I’ll might you at the hill at (insert any time)” 4-this is kinda random but also not- don’t vape like please it can kill you- a girl I hate (she is so fake 😒) vapes and everyone knows but no teachers care so that tells you a lot about the public school system. -I live about an hour away from Chicago (Illinois) Incase anyone is wondering

My high school was different in Davenport, Florida. The campus was a lot bigger, taking up to 7 minutes to walk from one class to another if they were on opposite ends of the school. We had about 12 different buildings, a courtyard in the middle, a population of 3,000 in the school, and classes started at 6:30. We left around 1:30 pm. Also one Wednesday every month we got to leave school an hour earlier as it was considered early release day. My favorite class was agriculture 1 and 2. We got to learn about farming, ranching, cattle’s and horses and we got to raise and learn how to take care of different animals. It was pretty cool.
