Kodak‘s Prices too High?

AGFA APX 100 costs roughly half as much as similar films from Kodak & Ilford and is a very compelling black and white film stock. After shooting a bunch I've decided to make it a mainstay in my camera bag because of how well the film performs while keeping my pocket book happy.

The real Agfa can still be had as rollei rebrands it. Not as cheap as the APX but it’s tonal characteristics are a bit better. Rollei Retro 80s/Superpan 200 and retro 400s are all Agfa emulsions from the old style.

I just started shooting film and my first roll was Fomapan 400. That I loved! It has so much character and contrast, even if losing some detail. This film on the other hand, not for me… it looks boring, blaah, just lame.. gray it is. Maybe it is the light in the photos. I might watch some other videos about this film, but not convinced yet. Your video was nicely done, good music choice and I like your way of presenting the content.

@@noahvonhatten I'm from Belgium and to compare: Foma400 is about 55 euro vs. Agfa 400 is 90 euro. Both are easy to get to here. Also, the Agfa is "true" iso400 while the Foma400 seems to be about 250 (according to tests from TheNakedPhotographer). Both indeed, can't go wrong with the cheao Fomapan :)

I don’t begrudge manufacturers for increase prices on todays climate. They could just say, it’s not worth producing film any more. I am grateful manufacturers are keeping film alive. Don’t like the price, shoot digital and stop whinging about it.

Yes and no. I would be more apt to shoot digital if I could afford a newer camera. My Canon XTi is now 15 years old. It still takes a nice pic, but the 10 Mpxl sensor is a bit antiquated. I actually get 30-40 Mpxl out of a film scan. Price wise, my Elan 7e with an L lens, good film scanned on my Epson 750 Pro is in my budget. Most of us expected film prices to increase once digital became affordable. Today's economy doesn't help with the price of anything. For those who wish to continue with film and are concerned about film prices. I suggest buying a bulk loader and a film bag. There is no need for a dark room if you develop your own negatives and use a film scanner.

@@noahvonhatten in the Kodak financial report they state that they've managed to streamline production, to make it cheaper to produce. Add price increases to this and I'm not touching Kodak even with a 100ft long stick. Kodak raises their prices by XXX amount, while others are adjusting for inflation and even managing to introduce new emulsions in the market (Adox). What gives? : D
