For the prices, in Europe, APX 400 is 2 times cheaper than the Tri-X: 4,99€ for the Agfa and 10,90€ for Kodak. HP5+ is 7,90€ and Fomapan 400 is 4,90€ Too bad there’s no 120 films :/

Try the Rollei RPX 120 100/400 films. Same family if not identical

I love this film, especially on a sunny day it gets a bit dreamy i would say

Damn...That high light pop is a contrast lovers dream! Might I also say...It's quite a bit sharper and more detailed of a film too.

Nice!!!. I have shoot Apx 100 a lot and I love it. I have to try the 400!

I shot a LOT of Tri-X and the late lamented Plux X back in the 1960s, but not since. Thanks for this.

@@jasonf3959 I'd say quite handsomely if you like grain! There is room for improvement, but 800 and 1600 came out pretty good in Tetenal Paranol. Have yet to test pushing in Caff.

@@TheNakedPhotographer other than that - hard to tell apart when watching your videos on both films side by side. They're very similar - to an interchangeable degree otherwise. Spectral response seemed on-par to me and I'm new to reading curves, but they looked very similar to me too.

@@TheNakedPhotographer Agfa APX and Rollei RPX400 are, in Europe, just different boxes and different prices for the Kentmere 400. Funny that Agfa has the best price overall and Rollei is almost 1€ more expansive than Agfa for the same flavor. But it's a very pleasant film, and the slight bump in price compared to Foma 400 is justified in my opinion. I'd like you to compare Kentmere/Agfa/Rollei to Ilford Pan 400. They are close, but since I've always found Ilford Pan 400 to be a bit grittier than Kentmere I'm not sure they are excalty the same...

@@Thorpal I’m just gonna copy and paste something I’ve just wrote in reply to a comment under the Kentmere 400 video: I’ve talked to Rollei about that and they’ve told me that the RPX 100 and 400 are new emulsions based on the original Agfa Leverkusen APX formulas. Produced for them by Harman Technology. They’re actually the ones who bought the Agfa Leverkusen patterns when it went down. I’ve also talked to the new owners of the Agfa brand name. And they wouldn’t confirm or deny that their film was Kentmere 400. I’ve shot both Rollei RPX 400 and the new AgfaPhoto APX 400 and developed and scanned them the same way and they have different characteristics to my eye. I didn’t do any side by side. But the RPX had a distinctive grain and a flatter contrast curve than those I’ve seen from either APX or other peoples Kentmere pictures. The fact that they all have the same development times isn’t that special to me. They all are cubic emulsion, 400 speed black and white films. Manufactured at the Ilford plant.

My go to film as it is the same or sometimes even like ten cents less per roll than Fomapan, but performs way better in my opinion. Not bad for the cheapest stuff I can get here in Germany. Just a bit sad it is now made in the UK as the old factory in Leverkusen would be about ten minutes away from me.

Neat! Is this the same film as Rollei RPX 400 which is available in the US for fairly cheap? It seems it might be? If so, I might buy some. When I edit my photos I usually crunch together the whites like that curve, anyway!

Thanks for this video . Last year i shoot around 70 80 piece agfa 400 . Most of time push it 1600 and develop xtol stock or 1+1 . Its very flexible film . Just i bored and switced tmax

According to Fotoimpex - it's close to, if not the same as Kentmere 400

Has anyone tried to push it to ISO 3200? A comparison with Ilford HP5 Plus in this sense?

Feb. 2023, Germany. Agfa APX 100 and 400 can be found in literally any Rossmann or DM shop for about 7 euro pro roll. Another point, that if developed according to recommendations it gives you only ISO320. And all data in Massive dev chart are also for this -1/3pull. For APX100 the same issue - if you want ISO100 instead 80 - develop longer (8min instead 5,5 in Rodinal).

I wish you could still get Agfa CT Precisa slide film at DM. Last time i could buy those was 2018 or 2019 - a twinpack for 13 euro. Bummer that the cost of the cheapest slide film went from 6,50 for rebranded Fuji, to 20,00 for Fuji or Kodak :/

@@laurensvisser7623 now there is only Agfa APX100/400 and Kodak Gold 200 are aviallable... checked last Saturday. But Gold200 is still 16EUR per 3er pack

Don't know if you are planning on comparing Orwo film stocks, since they are cine films and you can only buy them already loaded in 35mm canisters at certain photos stores that do bulk loading, but would be really cool to see you reviewing them. Orwo films stocks are seem really great and bulk loading Orwo film makes it quite affordable, and since film prices only keep getting higher, bulk loading is becoming the only option for some of us.

The tri x almost looks like a drab olive tone next to apx. I like how white the white is one the apx. Like you said, I'm doubt you would ever be able to notice this if they weren't side by side.

Both prints are on identical paper. It may be the copy stand lighting you’re seeing

So, the Agfaphoto 100 and 400 are only available as 35 mm films as far as I can tell.

Just bought some before watching this video

I don't shoot Kodak films anymore due to the crazy non-stop Kodak price increases in the Eu, and particularly in the UK. But Tri x is clearly showing full extra stop of shadow detai, looking at your TShirt. The true speed of their s emulsion is about 160 and not 400.

Interesting, the word on the street has always been that APX 400 is the same emulsion as Kentmere 400, this seems to debunk it. Rollei RPX 400 and Orwo N74 have also been accused of just being Kentmere 400.

@@kitingmare n74 is a motion picture stock. And therefore quite grainy. From what I remember rpx400 is not. I know that macophoto who owns the rollei Brand has close ties to Agfa Geavert (not Agfa photo) and they do make some polyester based aerial reconnaissance film. Also before maco/rollei came out with their new data sheet design they simply linked an Agfa data sheet. So it may very well be still the same film made by Agfa.

I think he test everything in D76 as that's kinda the standard developer.
