Kobalt 80v Lawnmower set up and review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Can an electric lawn mower stand up to a gas. I had the opportunity to purchase a new lawn mower and I decided to go electric with the Kolbalt 80v self propelled mower and I was truly surprised. I unbox the lawnmower and give it a test run.

    Seriously, you saved me so much time and anxiety. I bought one yesterday, dreading getting it set up and so (of course), I got on KZread and found your review and set up instructions. Mowed my half acre lawn like a breeze (almost). Liked your pace, clear instructions and user-friendliness. Now, it's stored in the garage waiting to cut more grass when it's time. Thanks!

    Thank you so much for this video. I just bought the same mower, only not self-propelled, and you answered so many questions for me! I'm charging the battery now. The battery charger has a fan in it. Just something I noticed that you didn't mention. But, wow, cool!!! I'm 63 and starting mowers has always been a horrible challenge for me, plus dealing with the gas, fumes, noise, etc. Can't wait to try this baby out!

    I bought this unit yesterday and was about to return it but watching this video saved me from doing that. What I was doing wrong was NOT pressing the power button and then the "gas" button or the go button and for that reason my blade as not engaging to cut. Once I viewed your nicely done video it all came together. Thanks man you saved me from returning this beautiful machine.

I was on the fence for a KOBALT Mower for 3 years but each time I attempted to buy it let's say one with 2 batteries they were always sold out. So, I picked up the 80v 21 inch push this morning I just didn't need the self-propelled model. I'm excited to see how it performs.

    Due to a miscommunication with ebay seller I got the push version instead of self propelled. He knocked about $60 off what I paid since it was described as self propelled. Using it today I noticed when I got into some high grass the motor got some power . Just like a gasoline engine with a govnor . Pretty powerful. I had a chance to use a 80 volt chainsaw and liked it so much thought I would try the mower .

    Great video man, been interested in this mower. I saw several electric mowers out there, but the Kobalt actually got really good reviews. I love the stand up feature because my new house has a small garage and space is limited. I always support Lowe's because the give veterans a 10% discount. I always buy from vendors that support veterans.

    Let me know if you if you purchase the mower i would like to hear about your experience. That stand up feature is so killer for storage I love it. You can also hang it with the right set up. It's sad that Lowes changed the Veteran discount to 5%. I always loved that fact, I will take the 5 but 10 made me feel like they truly saw us and wanted to do something to really thank us for serving. Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. Yes I did purchase the mower and love it so far. Bought it during the father's day sale when it dropped from 599 to 499. We still get 10% here in Jersey, but the discount didn't come up during checkout. Talked to the manager and he stated that they changed the discount policy. Now if it's on sale already, the veterans discount will not kick in also like it did before. He ended up telling me to buy it and walked me to customer service, telling them to give me a 10% refund! I mowed my lawn 3 or 4 times before it finally dropped from 3 lights to 2. No more maintenance for me 😁😁😁.

    Great review Daneal! I have been considering this mower and your review was a big help. Thank you. After using front wheel drive mowers for years, I'm kind of curious how that rear wheel drive would be when turning the mower 180 degree turns.

  • @jefferybarnett6056

    @jefferybarnett6056

    4 жыл бұрын

    I got this mower yesterday and used it today on the yard. I have a Troybilt 21 inch self-propelled front wheel drive mower and it is still doing great, but since I was getting a lot of battery operated tools, I figured I would check out the mower as well. I don't have a very large yard, but the grass is thick and there are lots of obstacles such as bushes, trees, etc that I must navigate. Assembly was easy, the rear wheel drive takes some getting used to, have to release the drive paddle as you make the turns and then press the paddle again. This creates a slight delay before the drive kicks in real well, so you feel as though you are pushing the mower the first step and a half after most turns. When you pull the mower backwards, the wheels sort of lock up and there is a trick to freeing the wheel rotation. If you need to pull the mower backwards, release the drive paddle, push the mower about 6 or 8 inches forward and then pull back, the wheels will roll freely. This method became the best way to mow around the obstacles without having to repeat the process over and over again. During the fee wheel state, the mow basically becomes a push mower...little bit hard going forward without the drive assist. The mower was on one light for about the last quarter of the yard, so I have no idea how close I came to running out of juice. Strangely, when the battery was removed, I pressed the batery indicator in the battery and it said it had 2 lights. The cut was very clean, I think I cut it a little too low, will probably raise the deck on the next cut. Speaking of the deck, it is 21 inches, so don't be confused, your cutting width is not 21, it is less. The Troybilt I have is a 21 inch cut and it was noticeable, having to make a few extra passes the get the various parts of the yard completed. The mow is quiet...I always wear ear plugs when mowing...but I didn't this time. I think the weed-eater makes more noise than this and I honestly think you could mow at night and not disturb the neighbors...as long as you could see where you were cutting. Here's my biggest grip I guess: multiple times the mower just randomly stopped. I am tending to think it had something to do with maybe having a light grip on the shutoff bar...thought I was keeping it pressed to the handle, but I guess it's possible I relaxed a few times...but if that is the case , it is extremely sensitive and does not give any room for error. If it holds up. it should be a really good mower....holding onto the Troybilt a little longer, just in case.

    Thank you for watching a leaving a comment. Jeff gave some good tips in his explanation. The real wheel drive is truly a little different but once you make a few adjustments you're good. You will have to let go of the self propelled when making turns and pulling the mower. It's too powerful and will move in the wrong direction when trying to make turns if you hold it. Make your turn and just as you start to line us in the opposite direction start the self propelled again. As fulling pulling backwards you are pulling against the drivetrain so just let go of the self propelled and you're good. To me that's the same as a front wheel drive. You hold the self propel with your thumb on a paddle. This takes a minute to adjust too. I would say it's just like using paddle shifters in a car if you have ever done that. The start is strange then it's great. Hope this all helps. Would love to hear about your purchase. Please subscribe to the channel more reviews, DIY, how to's and cool motivation to come. Thanks for the explanation. I find the shut off is releasing the shut off bar it is dialed in tight. If you watch my video the battery has a it's indicator and the mower has it's own. The mowers it's based on how it allocates power it assumes using the self propelled at all times and gives you the power left for that. You could get more time by stopping the use of the self propelled. The battery can be used in other Kobalt tools and has it's own overall power indicator. Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a reply to a comment I appreciate the help. Please subscribe to the channel more reviews, DIY, how to's and cool motivation to come. Thanks again.

    @@DanealLanier yes sir I took the plunge. Bought it at RONAS on sale for $550 CDN regular $850. My wife is a good deal finder. Assembled in 15 minutes. Very well built and a LOT more power than my last Black & Decker 36V which lasted 12 years. Do you leave your battery on the charger? From what I’ve researched, you can greatly prolong battery 🔋 life by keeping it cool, only charging to 75-80% (never 100%), recharging when it drops anywhere below 25%. Your video helped a lot in the decision so thanks again. All the best to you and yours 😃

    @@speedrunfantasychess Glad to hear that, still have some parts to shoot for the what I've learned so far video. I don't leave on charger and I'm usually charging at 0 or 20% I have considered getting a second battery for the rainy season. I can get stuck not being able to cut for two weeks because of the rain and the grass is growing a lot. When it's really high I can deplete the battery before I finish cutting. It has been a great purchase and I'm very happy with the results. Thanks for commenting. Please share the video and I hope you subscribed, lots of fun to come. Happy cutting.

    Nope not recommend only dust it off with a broom or blower as far as underneath the mower use a brush or a light scraper to remove the grass just make sure you remove the key and battery before doing it

    Not trying to be funny but I've cut 1.5 acres of mush thicker grass when I was cutting retention ponds for housing developments and now i cut the properties that I rent out and 80V is over kill for your yard. You more than likely don't go through a full battery cutting your yard. But again you could because the newer ones are 6 Ah and the older ones are 2 Ah. It basically doesn't matter the thickness of the grass or the height it will cut through it. If it's thicker it will kill the battery quicker of course but I've found that for the thicker yards or grass just putting it on 5-7 height will allow the battery to last just as long and it still cuts it low enough.

    I will never go back to a gas mower. The Kobalt 80 cuts grass better than my gas mower did. I hit a high grass area and it just plowed right thru it. A gas mower would have bogged down and maybe quit. The batteries may seem expensive but have a good warranty and it seemed like my gas powered equipment was in the shop too often no matter how good I took care of it.

    Battery life has been great. I have been getting the grass in better shape so it's starting to take longer to cut. I have also learned I have more property than I originally thought which gives me more to cut. Depending on how I use the self propel I can squeeze just about two cuts on one charge. I would say on average with the increased yard I charge it after each cut. Still great battery life for what I'm cutting. Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment and watch the video. I have this mower and it does very well with grass. I have areas in my lawn that have a lot of weeds, so I use the bagger to try and catch as many weed seeds as I can, but in mainly grass areas, I just mulch it because the bag fills up pretty fast.

Once you get it down its second nature. Thanks again for watching and leaving a comment. Please subscribe for reviews and more.

    I live in south Louisiana where it rains frequently so I have to mow wet grass most of the time. Do any electric mowers do well in wet grass?

  • @DanealLanier

    @DanealLanier

    3 жыл бұрын

    Paul great question and I have cut wet grass with this lawn mower and cut grass in the rain. So just like any lawn mower gas or electric if the grass is high enough and wet it will bog down. Really high and wet will take longer to cut and use more battery. Now maintained to medium high lawn that is wet, you will have no problems. I wanted to finish cutting in the rain recently because I had some medium spots and I didn't have any problems not one bog down. Thanks for watching and the great question. One thing to know is, although there is a 5 year replacement or refund warranty on this machine, once the 5 years is up you may not be able to get parts or repairs done. I have a Kobalt 80 volt mower with a bad control board that is not available. This is a $25 part that runs the whole machine. The rest of the mower is in perfect condition. Because of this Lowes and Kobalt have made this a throw away mower. So if part of the reason you bought this mower is to be more environmentally friendly then consider most of it may be land fill material at any time. My gas mowers have lasted up to 20 years and cost less. Not happy.

    The lawn he mowed was rather bare, so probably gave less resistance to the motor than the lawns they used to determine tun time of 80 minutes
