FUN FACT: Koalas are the only non-human occupants of Australia which are ‘frontal’ mammals - it tends to have a face rather than a muzzle. Scientists think their front expression may explain why we find this animal so cute! If you like our vids hit subscribe: ab.co/2YFO4Go

I have heard of a story of an intoxicated person who picked one up and stuck it in his car, they think it had been dazed from a collision or similar.. but it woke up in his car while he was driving and went absolutely mental on him, clawing and biting, and absolutely shredded this poor bloke who had to get taken to hospital. This is the land of everything that kills you, our fluffy cute furry wildlife need defence mechanisms from such too.

In North America we've been making access tunnels and overpasses so wildlife has a way to get to the other side without actually crossing the road. They are built or dug in conjunction with migration trails and are very affective in lowering the number of animals being killed.

First and Foremost - Dangerous and "Deadly" are two different things. A lion, tiger, Chimpanzee - just a few examples of wild animals that CAN kill you....a koala bear is NOT going to kill you, but it CAN hurt you. Anything with teeth and claws can be dangerious. There is a video here on youtube of a Koala bear biting a girl on the shoulder. She was'nt "seriously" injured....but it did hurt. Hearing her yell "OW!" kinda gave me that impression. I would admire their cuteness, possibly give them food or water, but I ain't picking one of these things up....nope.

The way some people think about animals is mystifying to me. Yeh they're cute but they often won't think twice about trying to remove any appendages you feel entitled to stick in their face or scritch that cute little chin with. Often what you interpret as friendliness is more likely abject terror or shock and you are not being kind to that animal at all.

I have recurring nightmares about koalas that slowly make their way into my room at night, while I’m paralysed in bed, and they one by one crawl up and sit on my bed and stare at me.. then they start to growl.. first quietly.. then louder as more sit at the end of my bed.. eventually there are a dozen or more, and a cacophony of grunting and wailing, until they all jump at me at once and I wake up screaming.. maybe i should stop sleeping with eucalyptus leaves under my pillow! Though they smell so good… The leaves… not the koalas.

I noticed a young koala in suburbia acting oddly. It ran straight for me. People tried to reassure me it was okay. I called koala rescue and reported what I observed to the volunteer. The volunteer arrived, took photos and agreed there was something wrong. With the assistance of another rescurer they captured the young koala. She was sent to Australia Zoo for treatment. Months went by before I was told the young koala was well enough to be released. Happy ending. She was so distressed the night I found her.

Fun presentation, even if it included quite a few widely disseminated, previously viewed external clips. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have lived with multiple resident / passing koalas at five different addresses - one of those a 10-hectare native sanctuary on the edge of regional suburbia, part of a major corridor and where we planted 300 food trees. Four other koala-shares were seriously "bush" blocks. There were many nights when our furry friends' honking and screeching - often mere metres from the house! - kept us all awake, but we didn't really mind because we could be noisy "at it" too, LOL I still have a photo of me, age 3 (1954), holding a koala (almost half my size!) at Queensland's Lone Pine Sanctuary. The koala was far cuter than yours truly. Ha! Back then at Lone Pine they kept socially re-engineered German shepherds that ferried the koalas around on their backs - for the amusement of visiting peasants such as us. The poor critters (dogs included) must have been on a daily dose of valium or largactyl to so completely contain their natural animosities and instincts. We can only hope - and help where possible - that our now seriously threatened koalas (thanks to the Black Summer bushfire season) will get over that huge hump and once again thrive - without being made too "human friendly". Cute AF they be, but pets they are NOT. Thanks for the vid!

My challenge is writing this Discussion Group was how to connect wombats to wattle, wilderness, World Heritage and wellbeing? My most amazing discovery was that one of Australia's most rarest animals - the Hairy-nosed Wombat - is in the Epping Forest Scientific National Park . . which is very close to the Adani mine proposal. Why are we not talking about the Hairy-nosed Wombat more?
