My 88 yr old husband got Alzheimer’s when he was 81 yrs old. Later on he became very mean and aggressive . I was his sole care giver and believe me life got more than a bit rough. I realize he was not himself and the way he was acting wasn’t him but getting hit in the eye !hit over the head with a mag. Flashlight hit on the shoulder and hip with his desk lamp His taking butcher knives to bed and hiding them under his pillow well I’d say I had good reason to think he was trying to kill me. We were married 62 years . The Drs thought he had become too dangerous for me to take care of so he was placed into a nursing home where he fell 3 times in a couple of weeks .his last fall latterly killed him.. . He’s been dead for 7 months and needless to say life for me has become a lot easier but crazy as it seems. I still love and miss him.. Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease that robes a once intelligent person into someone not recognizable.

While we fight to find a cure we should also fight for an early diagnosis. The earlier you can get the diagnosis the easier it will be for the families and the person with the disease to get together and set up health care, who will make the medical decisions etc and other end of life needs.

These are not early signs..maybe a few. I knew a lady years ago and her very first experience with Alzheimer's was She Forgot Where She Was When driving!! She had a complete memory lapse while driving a few miles from her house. She didn't know where She was!! She said it scared her so bad and that was one of her first signs of early onset of Alzheimers.

@@JM-vj7we can anyone tell me where I can get some help? I am 89, and have Chronic 🙁lymphatic leukaemia,. For which there is no cure. Nothing to cut out and have remission, but 5.years of chemo and some vena sections. I have a wish to go on a cruise for about 4 ot 5"weeks to escape our English winter, but have been turned down by 11 insurance companies. I live alone. Do not have a carer or even a stick. I'm abitthin, but otherwise trying to continue my life as best as possible. I have pain control which helps a lot. I still drive a very small amount of early Saturday. Mornings to my local Sainsburies. My 3year old car has only got three and a half miles on it and I never take pain hrelief if I know that I will driving the next day. Ido not need a stick and walking is about the time my blue card allows. But why, oh why am I not allowed a cruise? The moment the word Leukaemia is mentioned, I am turned down flat, by insurance companies, even Macmillan. In the 70 years I have been driving, I have NEVER EVER BEEN STOPPED!!! NOT FOR ANYTHING. Macmillan will take wheelchair people, customers who are so obese that their heart could explode, or. Alcaholics with a dicy liver. I tried to get a little help with something called P I P, but I am too old for help in that direction. I feel sad and to some extent discriminated against. I am not a drinker other than milk and don't smoke. Surely after 5 years chemotherapy and a few vena sections, I should be allowed a holiday, preferably with SAGA WHO TAKE OVER 50s. I would love a break. Am widowed after a beautiful 62 year marriage so I was hoping to meet other lonely single passengers. Life would be worth living if I had a cruise booked, preferably somewhere warmer than here. I would love to have someone, able to sit with and drink coffee or tea and remember the good old days. I will hope to hear from anyone in a similar situation. I don't have a mobile, but I am reasonably good with the laptop. Patricia

I think that they may be of some assistance to you, weather you get to go on your cruise or not. They operate an answer phone system and presumably will contact you as soon as they possibly can, after you call them and leave a message and your phone number. They have a website so, if you google “Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia Support Association”. you will be able to get more information. I hope that the above information is of some help to you. I have a brother in law who was just diagnosed as having dementia. It appears his doctor is basing it on behavior he has exhibited such as getting very angry over a misunderstanding of when a doctors appointment was scheduled. He also says he has memory loss. However I’ve known him since he married my sister almost 20 years ago and he’s been this way for as long as I’ve known him. He is a very easily angered person if he’s not getting his way or if his wife is not constantly catering to his needs. His wife is an enabler and always makes excuses for everything he does and now that their doctor says he has dementia it’s like she embraces the idea and even more strongly defends him because after all he is a sick man, he has dementia so none of his obnoxious and mean behavior is his fault. My opinion is just that he is a very selfish, mean spirited person and always has been. Luckily for him he found a wife that would put up with him no matter what he does because she wanted a man, any man and she believes the worse thing that could happen to her is for him to leave her. It’s a sad situation and hard to observe for all of her family.

Don't be scared, as someone who had worked in this field for 2 decades, I will say first get to your doctor, check your vitamins and minerals levels as deficiency in some of these can cause short term memory loss. Once all your stats are good, then they can access you for early on set of Alzheimer. We should all be proactive about our health everyday and the more infirmed we are the better we can take care of ourselves and our future no matter what it may have in store for us. Be blessed and be positive.

I think men can become susceptible to this condition thru unrelenting stress of the society that dictates you must answer to your wife as your boss. A boss at work, a boss at home. As men age , we decrease in testosterone, our wives age and get hormonal imbalance and get more mean and bossy. Its a bad situation. Not me of course, my wife is perfect ! Did I say how much I love you today !

Compering old people with different lifestyles, looks like believers are more fortunate. In Russia was scientifically analyzed and proved. Russian scientists are more mystical, very interesting.

A person who can walk confidently into a kitchen in another's home, go make tea and find things without help, pour the tea, serve everyone, cook on the stove top and even remember what somebody forgot to put in the ingredients while making it, a person who recalls names, ages, and things happening in their circle currently like who is visiting their city or who is in the hospital or had a fall or is unwell or what their children are doing in life, where they work, what time they go and return on which days, Does a person so sharp have dementia?
