OMG! My first thought: Wollmeise! I’ve been to Munich twice and visited the Wollmeise yarn store (it’s in a small town close to Munich) on both occasions. And all the good beers…You should have a lovely time! Germany is like the motherland of sock knitting and they have so many nice yarns. It is wise to try to learn the language though, my experience is that not everyone speaks English. I’m from Finland and have always been travelling in Germany with someone who speaks German, so it’s been fine. There are quite a few knitting podcasts by Americans living in Germany, at least Merryweather knitting (or something merryweather) and Homespun House. But my favourite is Happy Knitting Podcast, a podcast in English by a German knitter. She lives in the UK now but has a back catalogue of episodes from Germany.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I also really like the Homespun House, I'm looking forward to checking out your other recommendations. Recently I've been watching Kiko's Knitting Podcast. She is a yarn shop owner in Germany and films one episode in English (Kiko's Knitting Podcast) and one in German (Kikos Podcast). I'm hopeful it's going to help my German knitting vocabulary!

Your move to Germany sounds exciting. Good luck with learning the language. Thanks for all these tips on patterns. Can’t wait to see your house tour. Have always been fascinated by Japan. My aunt taught for the army in the 50s and she spent three years in Japan. She loved it.

I've loved being here in Okinawa but I wish I'd been able to spend more time up on the mainland of Japan. I'm glad to hear you're excited about my house tour, I admit to being nervous about it. It's surprisingly hard to film the inside of a house.

I am really hopeful that I will get to meet a lot of fellow knitters. You'll have to give me your recommendations for the best yarn shops to visit!

Yes! My Slipstravaganza by Stephen West is done! I still have all the ends to weave in but it's done and it's gorgeous! I love it. Thank you for asking. How exciting to be moving to Germany. I watch Molly of A Homespun House and she's in Germany. I wonder if you will be close to wear she is? She dyes her own yarn and has a channel here too. I think I would just like to see a wander around your little town when you get there and hear about the yarn shops near by. Maybe later on you can do some video's like you have done here on the different areas and don't forget the food! lol I hope this move is everything you both want and are happy there. Thank you for sharing the scarf patterns. All of the beautiful. I'm working on the Amulet Shawl by Helen Stewart now. I made it once before for my daughter. I'm trying it in a yarn I haven't used before. It's Knit Picks Chroma fingering in the Sandpiper colorway. I think I will make a sweater next. Maybe the Ranunculus again. I like that pattern because it's so versatile. You can choose to do the lace as written or add or subtract it if you want. Short sleeves, long sleeves. And kind of yarn. Just a really fun pattern.

I'm nervous about making videos in Germany! I'm always worried I'll get a fact or detail wrong. Not as many people get out to visit Okinawa as they do Germany, so if I make a mistake usually no one notices. But Germany has so much history! I'm sure to mess up a detail eventually.

Thank you for these scarf pattern suggestions - I might be showing a friend how to knit soon and I am very intrigued by the sampler scarf! Also - very excited to hear about your move to Germany. I live in California now but grew up in the German part of Switzerland (near Konstanz, Germany). I would love for you to film a visit to a local yarn shop and I hope you find your own knit group there soon - excellent way to learn German :) Good luck with the move and thank you for all of the content you shared so far!

I am SO excited about my move! I've been working on my German and feel like I'm getting the hang of it a lot faster then I did Japanese. Speaking German makes me feel like I'm speaking with a very dry mouth.

I think that's a really good project to start with, it's fast and practical, you can use it right away.
