I think Garthe Knight was the best criminal in all the series. Hoff did a convincing performance as if Garthe was a real twin I think we saw an entirely different person in the Garthe character So convincing!!! That was good acting!

I was 12 years old when this episode came out. I just remember the aftermath scene, where KITT is destroyed and on his side and being devastated that this could happen to him. KITT's voice box lights were only half working and his voice was all messed up. Him and Michael having a conversation about KITT feeling mortal and possibly ceasing to exist. Tough to watch as a kid and a huge fan of the show. Thanks for the memories. Love this commentary series... keep it up!!

Thanks for sharing the information about the Knight Rider guide. The truck - 1973 Peterbilt 352 Pacemaker. From what I know, this one is a large (or a longer) version of the cabover. I saw a video with a guy who explained that these trucks were no more produced due to the Cummins engine being too much loud inside the cabin. They also mention that is safer to have a "Dog nose" truck. As for this one, it may be still out there, but also may be in very bad shape (unless someone bought the vehicle and loved it enough to well preserve it). I never notice that there was still a car on the third season with the fog grids. Those magic tricks, we saw them sometimes. Like in the first two-hour episode of season 3, when Kitt gives electricity to those two muscle guys. Only them it makes more sense. Here we start to invent. KITT was way ahead of all the existing technology. So he already could use infrared to intercept the machine and force the dices to show the wanted numbers. Actually, Garthe was trying to do exactly the same thing when he screamed "Snake Eyes". His employee secretly tried to give the right combination by pressing some hiding button, but KITT just overrode that command...for the handcuffs, some magnetic waves (that don't harm organic material at all) and Michael is free. In the end, it's just to make it cool. That quote smashing. That removes any doubt about Garthe Knight. He's not about some vengeance. He is evil. I never saw in a Television show, nor in a movie, anyone driving a truck like him. Well, he wasn't driving. He was rolling to destroy.

At least a few more episodes in 3 or 4 would have been nice. I mean they should have figured it out if u reference Michal Long its gonna be a great episode like they do in Junkyard Dog and 4th season don't ever say his name I don't think just one episode Michael says its been 4 years since we have been together

Little trivia from the Italian edition. When I first heard of April's sudden entrance in the original version of the show, with no explanation at all I mean, I was puzzled, as I remembered a little was said in the Italian version. I was quite surprised when I found out this happened only in the Italian edition. Actually, the Italian actor giving his voice to Kitt changed in season two, from Mr Adolfo Lastretti to Mr Massimo Venturiello. So, the Italian dialogue adapters changed the first lines and quotes, right before the first blackjack game starts. Those lines should sound this way in English, more or less: K: "Michael, what do you think about the new tones of my voice?" M: "You must thank April: that girl added a bit of her personality to you, Kitt!" Thus, the Italian viewer understood a new mechanic came to the Foundation. Ok, it is a very short dialogue, and it says nothing about why Bonnie left and why April was taken in. But it does much more than the original version, where nothing at all is said. PS: a question having tormented me since my childhood: when Michael, Tsombe, and Elizabeth are watching Goliath's strike on the tv, who the Hell is filming the enormous truck along the road and inside Red Bluff? PS2: there's a line where the Italian version outclasses the original script. Original, Kitt seeing Goliath: "Large is not the correct word: it is huge!" (or enormous, I can't remember...) Italian literally translated, Kitt seeing Goliath: "Enormous is not the correct word: it is gigantic!" In my opinion, it suits much more to the humongous size of the monster truck!!!

So when KITT changes the dice, isn’t that the “Ultra Frequency Modulator” that April mentions during the repairs in the semi? That would be the same function that unlocks the handcuffs. It would later be seen when Michael is trapped in a room and KITT makes knobs and drawers move and the guy says it’s a “Poltergeist”. You’re right about it being something hard to believe, but it is used some other times.

I had the miniature Kitt that collided with Goliath and externally it was no different with the other Sessums Kitt's. The reason that it seems less accurate had to do with Sessums magic work. After the crash he glued a "damaged" flat hood (made from a soft metal) above the original bulge hood in order to look as close as possible to the original damaged Trans am. It wasn't possible to deform the original hood because it was made from a resin compound. This is the only t top car that he made and the only with the flat and covered underside. There is a page in facebook by the name Jack Sessums dedicated to his work.

My favorite part of the escape sequence is where Michael goes yeaaah and you see the speedometer do a rapid count up to 200 mph where you get a feel that KITT is just hauling all kinds of ass and then you hear later on "at our current speed of 310 miles an hour our odds of survival are"

Great video!! I always thought it was strange that Wilton would give Michael Long plastic surgery and make his face into the image of his estranged son, on top of that no one thought to mention that maybe one day you might run into an evil doppelganger!!!!

A sequel of Goliath and Goliath returns has to be filmed by Quentin Tarantino😌...in Germany there are a novel of a third part of the Garthe story. Some novels for a fifth season....Garthe returns heavily wounded after falling from the cliff with Goliath and takes revenge for the second/third time....the Las Vegas car chase in the last "Jason Bourne" movie could also be Knight Rider.✌

To this day, I still wonder how Michael ever could have thought ramming anything with the momentum of a speeding semi truck was a good idea. Even if Goliath didn't have the molecular bondage shell, physics is still physics and he'd still experience the G-forces from the impact, even if KITT didn't crumple up.

I never realised how much work went into these episodes, David's acting as Garth was very well done at times I believed they were two separate people and the back story of Garth makes total sense Michael not only took his family name and face but his entire identity . Anyone would feel hatred for Michael who is an impostor living Garths life while Garth was locked away in a African prison . Through Garth's perspective he is the good guy and Michael is the evil impostor

Presumably it lived a similar life to the FLAG semi, returned to factory-ish spec and sold. Without some means of tracing it, like a VIN number, we may never know. It's unfortunate but it's likely scrapped.

Thanks for another high quality gem of a commentary. One thought comes to mind that maybe some of the stretches with kitts abilities may have been due to knight rider Changing from a 9PM program to an 8PM time when some of the younger viewers could watch when they probably had to be in bed by 9pm.Great to see the promos from NBC as they bring back memories of watching on original airing. Thanks also for filling in info. I always wondered if the kitts received newer nose and interior upgrades as the series progressed. Interesting that "Big Iron" was filmed before Goliath but would much later in the series. All in all you do an excellent job in giving us great tidbits of info on Knight Rider history and make it very fun to watch! Still have my kitt kit and remember how cool it was to receive in the mail. The new look for kitt with the fog lights instead of the pop ups was probably to make kitt stand out more from the factory pontiacs. The writer's guide was very interesting to see and in retrospect some details of the series were dictated by the writers bible.it also explains why later on the pop up lights were on in a stock footage shots and in the next second the fog lights only are on. Looking forward to the next installment and Thanks!!

I'm a native of Las Vegas, which is another reason why KR, the series itself, has always been one of my favorites.. Since the series began in Vegas, Michael Long was a cop in Vegas, (although that apparently changed for season 2 episode Knightmares) and a number of episodes revolved around Vegas. FLAG even has a base of operations in Vegas as we learn in this episode (Goliath). Blue Diamond NV however, was never an incorporated town, and is actually a part of the metro area now just to give you an idea on how much the city has grown since the early 80s. Nowadays Garthe would have probably had a suite at the Bellagio rather than CP. Which is one of the last of the old school properties still doing well on the strip, the Dunes, Riviera, Stardust, Frontier, Silverbird, etc etc etc, are all long long gone..

7:18 I've noticed the 2 hour episodes have the post intro credits appear differently from regular length episodes. The pilot was unique for showing the credits in the Ruben font like the logo. But starting with "Goliath" here, the credits would appear on and off screen with a fade transition effect instead of just appearing on and off normally. 2 hour episodes also include credits that would usually appear in end credits of regular episodes. Music composer credit (though appeared in the pilot end credits), film editor credits, art director credits and director of photography credits.
