Pallets from other countries can often be made of exotic wood. Right now I have some boards that are heavy as iron and just as hard that came from a Pallet. Also, leftover hard wood flooring is good.
Stunning transformation. As a gardener I get and store all sorts of wood that is from various trees and plants would love to use some of it. One day when I retire maybe!
Thanks for the video, Ben!!! Love the birch handle, looks really traditional!
Cool to see how much work goes into the handle materials!
Super interesting! Thank you for sharing. Now I have an even better idea of how much work was put into my knife’s handle 👍
Absolutely amazing!! Top craftsmanship mate. Also love a good curly birch handle with red liners.
Ben orford way cool wood keep up great content I love the jumper I bought from you Im going for atom axe next I carve Irish fighting sticks and spoons myself 🇬🇧🐾🦊
Hahahah man! Im scrounging at home trying to get some kind of wood that's acceptable for this tiny skinning knife i made. Seeing you open up your cabinet of handle material made me laugh hahaha
Wow that’s amazing!
The wood moisture is always measured at right angles to the wood grain. Not lengthwise to the wood.

Is it essential for the wood to be that dry for knife handle? It cant tolerate any percentage of moisture?

We’ll certainly for a full tang knife it really needs to be dry. Any moisture will allow it to move mostly shrink when on the knife. Making it uncomfortable in the hand. Best it’s super dry and expands with oil or slight moisture as this won’t expose the sharp edges of the tang. Hope that helps and makes sense. cheers, Ben
