While it would be nice, most of the judges have a lot more years of experience on him, and have wider ranging expertise.

***** I think you're right, and agree with the gent that said that Walter would make a great / good host. The host they have is Former Special Forces or something, but I think he's a bit too "Snarky". The host is the only one on the show I wouldn't want to meet or work around. Bit of a smart alec.
Super excited to watch you on the show. I hope they have you back as a fan favorite.
Saw the episode and was sooo excited to see you on it. I won't spoil it, but you made such a blade. True artist.
I freaked, when I saw you come out. I was really happy to watch your work in a different media.
It was great to have someone familiar to root for! Damn that can.
my Face lit up when they announce you.. wasn't expecting that.. since your specialty is in Japanese swords I would have loved to have seen your version of the Japanese Naginata... My Best Sir

Agreed! Just saw the episode as a rerun tonight and was thinking the same thing.
Walter you are a fantastic teacher. You have a down to earth way of sharing your knowledge of equipment, materials and processes.
I thought your ability to speak and your camera presence was exceptional. much more professional then the other contestants.
You made the best looking knife by far.
I really love FIF and particularly liked seeing a familiar face! I thought you did great and glad to hear it's so genuine!
Oh my gosh Walter! You finally entered Forged in Fire... I'm so exited, can't wait 'till that episode comes out! Congrats!
I was blown away when I saw you on the show!! I can't imagine the pressure and the heat!! Your blade was beautiful....ball bearings though...sheesh!!!
great job explaining it. I'm not a lover of reality shows. I always feel like things are rigged etc. So having you set me straight kinda opened my eyes on this show. Thanks Walter.

saw your episode. I thought you were a dick! Arogant.
Thanks for the input! I just watched my saved dvr showing of the episode last night. I was excited to see you in it and CAN'T wait for your next video when you go into the technical aspects of the blades'.
Incredible! THANK YOU for sharing your experience.
It was such a pleasure to watch you work on your blade. Loved that canister pattern.
The lighting thing actually really explains why you have these dedicated amazing craftsman and a ton of broken blades.
Can't believe u were on forged in fire. I was like hey babe I know this guy. She says you know him? Yeah I watch him on KZread. She says owe yeah you defiantly know him. Woman just don't get it.

Literally just had this conversation haha
My son and I where watching Forged in Fire, then when you walked out....we both were very excited! It was a joy to see you work! I can't even imagine how to tackle any of the challenges presented in such a short amount of time.
Just watched your episode. Thanks for sharing your experience!
I was so excited to see you on the show! It was the most exciting and I was the most involved in the show when I saw you on there. I was rooting for you the whole time!! I was so so bummed when your knife cracked. I've watched so many of your videos, and I've learned so much from you.
Cool to see you on there! I really enjoyed it when I was on. The heat mixed with time crunch, odd materials, extreme testing, cameras everywhere, and an unfamiliar shop make for a situation where anything can happen.
Well done Walter. It was great to see you on Forged in Fire. Thanks for the videos. Cheers.
I love the show. It was fun to see you on it. Thanks so much for the behind the scenes look. That was interesting! You're the best!
Thank you for making this video, I am a big fan of the show, and wondered a lot how real it all is. Very interesting.
Thank you for your amazing informational videos!
I got so hyped when I saw you on it!!! It was literally my first episode of watching it, as I just got television. I wanted to cry when I heard the break. :( But, it was still amazing, and you had the hardest possible initial steel to make, and seeing the final challenge.... you would have SMOKED it!!!
Your episode of Forged in Fire was a contest of having one Smith build an engine and another building an exhaust, while yet another building a bird feeder. The tasks were so different that it really wasn't anything close to a fair test. I very much wish they would keep the format as it was the first season. I love your channel and appreciate the information but, why is your forge on while you're taking an extended period of time to talk and make this video? You're not getting your gas for free are you?
This friday five helped me a lot. Thanks mate :)
you my good man are a Forged in Fire god!! i started making knives because of your videos!! working on knife #5 with all the help from your channel ..keep it up and thank you! this old thanks you for a hobby and skill he can pass onto his kids
Hey Walter. I'm just getting into making knives and I love your videos.......My wife and I were on season 4 of ALONE on the History channel, so it was pretty cool to watch this vid and hear someone else story of being in the TV world. Dave W
I was really happy when I saw You, no matter what Your work on show was proffesional and great - I guess You had bad luck with choosing the material as other contestants ended up with more durable kind of materials. Here in Poland the show is very popular and I'm looking forward to more technical info from You. For example, we see the quench but there is nothing on tempering the blades and I can't find reliable info on that. Is it true that blades are tempered overnight and the second 3h of show is carried out on another day? Cheers!
Answers a lot of questions. I'm glad he decided to share.
Great overview, very interesting. Thanks Walter!
I watched that episode and was very excited when I saw you coming in to be on the show...I like watching you guys who know the "tech" stuff, but I don't have all of the equipment to do much of that type "forging"...that's why you videos are still my favorite source of how to... Thanks...
That's pretty much how I remember it. We stayed at the Hotel Le Jolie and would go eat and drink at Sugarburgs down the street. We were always starving after shooting and they were nice enough to make us something even though the kitchen was closed by the time we got there from the studio. Hanging out with the other smith's was the best part.
Thanks for the heads-up on this. It was great to see a familiar face. Thanks also for the "behind-the-scenes" background. As viewers, we only get to see what the producers want us to see. I liked being able to watch the episode, and future episodes, having this new knowledge.
Thanks for the awesome videos! it was great seeing you on the show.
Walt , when I caught a glimpse of you on the preview I was pumped up all week, the day of it being aired i was like a little kid I have to tell ya I was almost in tears couldn't believe my eyes what just happened if it was easy we all be making knives I'm forty eight and just started making knives in the fall of last year it's a good time thanks for all the vids there a great help. almost forgot to mention that I almost kicked the dog upside down when I saw the blade separate LOL.
I just watched the episode! Good Job Sir, love your content!
i was super excited to see you there ,for me you are a true knife making legend and the real champion knife maker!!!!
Just saw the Forged in Fire Episode...was happy to see you on there...great looking blade, and it looked like you had a good time!
i was very happy to see you on the show, and have learned a lot from you, as well as the show!
Can't miss that episode!!!
Walter, I about fell out of my chair when I saw you walk into the forge! I totally thought "Game over, Walter's in the house!" You made a great knife with what you were given to work with and the amount of time you had. Always a bummer to see one of the blades break, but as usual you did a great job! Keep up the great work!
Hi walter as a follow up to my previous comment. I'm 13 and started blacksmithing in part because of you. I have since forged my first knife out of a leaf spring which surprisingly didn't turn out horribly!!!

I agree, it's never too early (considering ages of responsibility and understanding of the risk & rewards of the process - and I'm sure you understand that). I also feel it's never oo old, I've gotten into smithing (precious metals) as a teen, and become re- interested in it (with iron & steel) at 58 years of age. Mr. Walter Sorrells is a GREAT teacher. Keep at it young man, even a young smith may have something to share with an older one like, me and I'm open to learning from a teenager! Sure we CAN learn from the young!

Watched it tonight with my sons. Almost didn't think it was you without the denim shirt! Great job sir, wish I could have seen you do your style with the final project. Cheers sir.
I watch it every time it airs and flipped out when I seen you walk on!! Great job I'm not going to give spoilers
We were most disappointed in NO DENIM SHIRT.
Never seen the show but will find it on-demand and binge watch.

I saw the show last week and was sorry to now see you win as I watch your youtube vids regularlyand have a idea how good you are! Better luck next time!
Here in the UK the latest series is due next week so I have the series set up to record and can't wait to see you in action. I often wondered why you hadn't been on the show before. Good job someone recognised you as one of the leading lights in the Knife making world ! Also looking forward to your "Viewers knives" part 2 video. The first video was inspiring and amazed me. It just shows how many people still want to make beautiful and useful things with their hands.
I had suspected that there were way more challenges to participating in that show then one could realize just by watching it. I did figure that the unfamiliar environment would have to be a factor. But, the 120 degree room temp thing surprised me. That alone for me would have been a serious game changer. Glad to hear that the comradery between yourself and the other contestants was the highlight of your experience. Then again, I would expect nothing less from a humble man as yourself. Thanks for enlightening us Walter!
As soon as I saw your hand I thought damn, that sucks, particularly when I saw the other three challenges. The knife you made was nice and I couldn't believe you pulled that off that quickly.
Thanks for all you do. I have learned a lot from your videos. My heart sunk when I heard the dreaded sound.
I got super excited when I saw you come out. I actually felt sorry for the other contestants.
It was a pleasure working with you on the show and hanging out at the hotel after :)

Congratulations Theo! Would have loved to see more testing of your blade but it is what it is. Walter... man I've followed you a long time and my heart just sunk when your blade broke, I was rooting for you (no offense Theo). Hopefully you get called back someday for a redemption episode!
It was exciting to see you on the show like watching a friend compete.
Watched a couple of days ago the episode (in Europe we get them later) As others pointed out. Unfair episode framework...and you definitely made the best looking knife of all. Nice experience for you no question, but I was highly disappointed you could not show on TV your amazing skills. Please keep the good work...and your videos (probably the best I have seen on youtube about knife making)
i really wanted you to win Mr. Sorrels, i watch a lot of your videos and enjoy your manner and easy way of speaking, i find you a good teacher.
I love Forged in Fire! Really cool to get to know behind the scenes. I'm currently a metalsmith and jewelry maker but I am really excited about starting to make my own blades!
I was on the show for season 3 also and everything he is talking about it the total truth. It was an amazing experience. I have all your videos Walter and I am so thankful for the videos you do. The only thing I wish they would do with the show is make the craft look the way it really is. Sometimes they make it look too easy.
Hi Walter. I saw the Forged in Fire episode and thought you did a great job. You got the hardest challenge and your blade was beautiful. Your handle was the nicest of all contestants. You should be very proud. Keep up the great work with the instructional videos. I find them very helpful.
So cool to see you on the show. The week before, I thought to myself that you needed to go on it. Loved to see you stay true to your style too. At any point I was expecting you to break off and start explaining how or what you as the knife maker should do next, like your KZread channel. I look forward to your next video.
Wow, that was a beautiful blade you made. Nice job!
Walter, it was such a surprise to see you on Forged in Fire. I have never missed an episode. When you walked in the shop I figured you had the win in the bag. I hope if they offer you another spot you take it. Clearly you don't have anything to prove but do it for your fans. I have learned so much about the trade by watching your very insightful videos. Please keep sharing you amazing knowledge. Also,.... I don't see you reply much. sure you're busy. It would mean a lot if you could give me a 👍.
The Forged in Fire show is one of my favorites. It's interesting the effect the intensity and stress of performing have on different knife makers. Luck and circumstances seem to factor in. You were not the cheery Walter we all know and love on that show but as usual, your process was impeccable.
I was rooting for you the whole show. you are someone I have much respect for in the knife industry and one day I hope to be able to afford one of your knives from the tactix armory line
I just saw the episode! Great work on the Cannister Damascus. They sure put those blades through some tough tests!
This is the episode I was waiting for. I was rooting for you on that one Walter. That would be Awesome if they choose you again for the comeback episodes.
I seen you on forged in fire you did great either way you handled what crap they threw at you like a champ. I really liked the pattern on the canister damascus
Right before you walked out I was thinking you should try this and then you walked out!!! Couldn't believe it!!
I go to see it and told my wife I know that guy. I have learned so much from you! thanks for what you do
I was super stoked to see you on the show Walter. I was even more bummed not to see you advance. It was tough luck getting the canister damascus which was the hardest of the 4 options. Great work though. You're the second youtuber that i follow that ive seen on the show and it was awesome to watch.
pls make The Naginata for us :)
Just seen the episode last night. I was sitting there thinking "why does that name sound like I've heard it before." then I remembered that I watched your videos from a friend since he was gonna teach me blade smithing and said I should watch your videos since they are very informative. Then I saw what your challenge and was like well he got the short end of the stick but it was a really nice to see you do how you did.
watched the episode last night, Walter. Thought it was great...wife and i were rooting for you.
I would love to see a vid of you talking about how you got into knife making and the journey of ups and downs that may have taken place leading up to now
Just watched the episode. Despite having the most difficult material to work with and losing precious time processing it, you definitely did the best job. The finish was awesome and one of the judges didn't hold back back his amazement over your finish. This continued when you did the amazing handle job. You can't really call it a competition when the contestants have totally different levels of challenge. It's no question who wins when you send a guy with a crossbow to a rifle shooting contest.
Walter, heard just about the same description from Pete when his episode was aired, except I heard it in much more detail since I was standing in front of him at SOFA. Was very glad to see you on the show. Honestly I would hate to try and forge under those lights. Interesting that Jason was making knives when he had the time. Glad they afford him the opportunity to do so. Have a great day.
Never seen the show before , just found and watched it on deman. very cool show. Man, I was rooting for you walter. I definitely thought you had hands down the best technique and aesthetically best knife. still was cool to see you do your thing on the big screen. good job bud
Walter I am waiting to see if I will be a contestant. I mentioned you during my interview. Thank you for your videos they have made my blade smithing career.
One of the toughest styles to work with .I think you did good for what you had to work with . Congrats on getting on the show
I wish they could put out an uncut version online where you can watch the full thing, I know I would watch it at least once.
I was watchn.and I was rootn for ya brother walt ....ya did a great job...
thanks for not spoiling 😉😉
I can vouche for the fact that they tried to make the playing field as level as possible. it was a real competition no doubt. it would've been a privilege to compete against you mr. sorrells. I learned a lot of what I know from your videos.
Tough break on Forged in Fire man. My wife and I were pulling for you. I loved the blade you came up with. The design looked like it would make a great hog hunting knife.
was sorry that you didn't make it through. you blade was the cleanest and best looking blade by far!
Watched the episode just because you were in it. I was really impressed with how well you worked with what you were given. I think it was honestly just a bad draw on the canister steel, seems like that method would be great at introducing imperfections into the final product.
heard your voice in the living room and dropped what I was doing to watch the show.
I was watching Forged in Fire the other day and before I could freak out that you were on there, my wife hear your voice from the other room and was like "That sounds like the KZread guy you're always watching.." haha good job Walter!
I agree, I really like Forged in Fire. It was great to see Walter on there, I've been making knives for a couple of years and I always look to Walter's channel for guidance on techniques that are new to me. I was rooting for you WALTER, I hope they put you back on.... Maybe a second chance? Keep the videos coming and thank you.
My heart broke to see the way you went out man... keep up the good work man!
I've always wondered about tempering, do they temper the blades the same way for all knives or do the contestants get to temper their own blades, seems like a fairly important aspect of the overall heat treatment.
I want to see you in there again!!!!
As often as Walter uses a magnet to test temps while forging, especially heat treat, I'm surprised he didn't take one with him for this experience.
I was totally taken back by you being on the show as I consider you a master blade smith. I would more expect you to be a judge rather than a contestant. I'm sorry you didn't win but I've seen your work and follow you and it's amazing! I'm sure if any one of them were under the same restraints it has the possibility of turning out the same way. You are a master at what you do and I hope one day to meet you. Thankyou for all the instructional videos.
What episode was it? I was looking for you. 😢
