I've got the KME with diamond stones. I get great results: hair popping sharpness. It has a bit of a learning curve, but if you know the general rules of sharpening, you'll get great results right off of the bat.

If you want precise angle readings don't zero your cube on the wooden base. The base stud has a loose fit in the handle hole. Mine has about a 2 degree wobble. I place my cube on the underside of the clamp frame to zero. I wish it had a wide edge to place it on but it's more precise there. Nice video thanks for sharing.

Once I got the venev scorpion stone set, is so different than the original kme hone stones. Those are now retired, cept the 50&100 grits. Is magic with gunny juice. But yes, I copied knifekrazys s.s. plate on my stone holder for sturdy placement of the angle cube, and rod holders with springs. Now just wish I could figure the scissor attachment, makes perfect sense but for some odd reason! I've ruined 2 pairs, one day I'll figure it out. Seems so basic to understand, drives me nutso

I was stationed in Japan, where nobody uses any sharpening systems like this. I was in Sakai (a City known for knife-making). I learned from a knife maker there how to make and keep a knife sharp. Since then I have been freehanding with Japanese whetstones for about 52 years. One of my golf buddies has a KME and says he loves it! So I'm looking at videos to find out about them. I guess I stumbled on this! After watching this video. I could never own something that takes this much setup! I swear on "everything this guy owns" that he will never be able to get a knife 1/2 as sharp as I can with me using One whetstone and my hands! How could ANYONE use this system and archive consistent results? Based on doing all this measuring? If you want to be good a sharpening anything. You need to be able to feel what is happening to the steel! Even if you use a system like this, when you are moving the stone on the knife, you should be able to feel how much material you are taking, The knife will tell you if your angel needs to change and how the steel is shaping. (if your bevels intersect) I'll stick to my stones and my 2000-year-old methods. I can buy a set of Naniwai stones for less than the price of this sharpener. I bet this system can't sharpen my NINJA sword?

Thanks for watching even with all your experience. You are right on all counts. What this system gives is a precision, V edge that is consistent, precise and sharp. It has high requirements. It also allows for consistent testing like Pete of "Cedric & Ada" does. I'm gratified that our expose benefited you as an experienced hand sharpener!! Clearly you will have no trouble to... Stay Sharp!!

52 years on a whetstone...Awesome. Coming in the comments section to brag about yourself and try to enforce your "percieved" superiority...inferiority complex. I know you can be better than that. Luck!

Oh get frigging real dude.....................LOLOLOLOLOL, it's a tool the angles don't need to be that exact along the blade or side to side. If it did I guess those who freehand sharpen on a stone wouldn't get their knives as sharp as they do, and there are videos of people shaving their face with those knives. And yes I love my KME.

Thanks for watching!! Ain't nothing more real than taking a simple job, long accomplished with a rock we'd have found on the ground and making a hyper expensive tool that doesn't always work to make it complicated. My favorite KME accessory that I don't have is the bent rod for convexing.. 😉 If it helps.. My favorite blade in any world is hand sharpened and convexed with a belt sander that I lashed to the bench with jute twine.. I love your KME too!! Thanks for the comment and... Stay Sharp!!

I don't know how he "measured" .04 degrees, but I can say the WSPA does not maintain the angle when you flip the knife. I remove the jaw with the knife in it, then flip and reinstall in the frame. Makes a difference. Can't do that with KME.

Great questions and thanks for asking them. Measuring angle is with an electronic angle device and while it goes to two decimal places.. It's a bit silly. Second, the KME loses the angle a bit with the flip but it remains pretty consistent in so far as it remains the same amount of error each time you flip it back and forth.. I overcome this by doing side "A" to completion and then side "B". There's a bit of calculation to maintain edge in center and a lot of finish stropping but at this level, y'all get it. Good Times and Stay Sharp!!
