That interview with Alonso in 2018 says it all. He wants the job and Liverpool fans want him to have the job I think. When a manager knows that the fans really want him it makes the choice much easier. When Klopp was announced in 2015, the Liverpool fans knew it was right. They WERE right. They will be again.

SAF left with an average aging team. Klopp left Liverpool with a very strong and young. Konate Trent McAllister Gravenberch Bradley Elliott Curtis Jones Nunez Jota Gakpo Diaz All are in their early to mid 20s Gomes been in LFC for so long and he is only 26. Alisson 32 could played till he is late 30 with Kelleher on line.

The big elephant in the room is Man City's 115 charges and their upcoming punishment. They could be relegated or face a massive points deduction, making next season completely up for grabs. It could be the easiest title to win in years for a new manager coming in.

Liverpool doesn't change managers often. They have only had 22 managers in their 130+ year history so most likely if Xabi gives this one a pass then he is going to have to wait another 10 years. before managing Liverpool.

Wouldn’t have it another way, Liverpool want a manager who is confident they can take on the task and LFC’s past methodology is to change managers over a summer. That 2 of the last 3 have happened in-season is not really how the club operates, (Klopp for Rodgers being an accelerated move, pencilled-in for the next season start). Many interesting games for both managers still to play this season, but Alonso is a good fit for where Klopp has taken LFC over 8 years. I don’t think Klopp even thought he was designing the new training ground for himself, so we’ve had a great time with his stay and the City loves him. I’m so pleased that he got to build a good 2nd generation team, which didn’t really work out at Dortmund, after winning almost every trophy we’ve competed for with him (Europa League still possible🤞). We’ll miss him every week from next season😿but he unequivocally stands shoulder to shoulder with the great managers at the Club and in the League 😺

It isn’t every day that a job at Liverpool comes along and any manager worth his salt will want to grab that opportunity. It is a tiny window of opportunity. Xabi fits perfectly. He knows and we know it. But first, the dancing around the pole with the usual words… come home, Xabi, you are the only one we fans will accept….and enjoy 10 great years with us.

Xavi spent €80.80m building the team but also sold €68.20m meaning it only cost €12m and they are currently 4 points clear of Bayern at the top having played the same number of games !!!! He is ready question is will he decide to see out his contract at his current club or not? One thing is for sure, he would not be a gamble, the Bundesliga might not be the EPL but you still have Borussia Leipzig and Bayern. For me he must be the top target since he played for and knows the club, sadly SteveG has not delivered and no sign he ever will be good enough to ever manage LFC, sad but thats reality.

They still have a good few years. Just missing a quality CDM.. He will likely be leaving on a high and not fucking over the long term plans of Liverpool in the process.. he has built the foundations of the club to have success for years and will be passing the keys to a brand new car rather than an old shitter. He couldn't have done it any better...

I think it's too soon for Xabi. He's doing something beautiful at Leverkusen and it would be a shame for him to give that up and be under way more pressure at Liverpool. He should continue in Germany and see how far he can take Leverkusen. Especially since they'll be in the champions league next season. I want to see how Leverkusen do in the champions league. Same with Emery, I want to see how far he can push Villa before he takes a bigger job as well

Michel Sanchez of Girona should also be a strong candidate. He brought Girona from Liga2 ➡️liga1 in the 1st year with them and only the 2nd season in Liga 1, he has transformed this small team into an amazing performance team. I think he's more interesting than Xavi Alonso. He's still young and could be a real deal here.

I understand Xabi Is doing really well at leverkusen but it's his first role. His win percentage with sociadad was pretty poor. If he wasn't a lfc legend I don't see why he would be linked to the job. I'd go for Ruben Amorim. Proven tactician in CL, done very well at Lisbon. His win percentage over 4 years is brilliant. He plays an exciting brand. But of course, I would welcome Xabi with open arms.

English press run as a herd in situations like this....its all Xabi Alonso or De Zerbi....when both have got less than 1-2 seasons as a manager of a club in a major European league. Klopp had 7 years as manager at Dortmund before he came to Liverpool. I think the next Liverpool manager should be Ruben Amorim from Sporting. He plays a similar style of pressing football to Klopp...and has had 4 years top flight experience. He will also cost a huge amount less to sign.

Has to be Xabi, no one else fits so well. He knows everyone, understands the Club n City, is a Champs League legend, and has his own style n play! Its one of rare those situations where there is only ONE candidate! Zerbi n Marco Silva or Potter all are gud managers, but you just can't see anyone elses face after Jurgen! He has only less than two years in top flight management and he plays a different style of football. So what exactly recommends him to the job at Liverpool? I’m a fan of Alonzo but it’s a legitimate question. Other than his history with the club and the brief stint in Germany, I’m not sure he’s qualified. I have gotten some good answers to my initial question though. Thank you @donesko81 for example. No need to take offense. One can question his appointment if he does get the job, no?

Alonso plays a gegen press style with the lb or rb dropping into a cb role when the other goes into a midfield 4. Plays a VERY similar style to klopp, high back line, high press, cuts off passing channels. He'd be ideal, knows the club, what it means to the fans and he'd probably get more time to get it right because of that.

Roberto di Zerbi is best man for the job now . Proven premier league manager and worked well on a budget and plays attacking football . He would be my first choice but I wouldn’t be upset if Alonso got it but I think it might be a big step for him yet

Am I the only Liverpool fan who doesn’t want Xabi Alonso? It seems like the media are rushing to crown him the next Liverpool manager after half a good season, just because he is a former Liverpool player. It feels a lot like Gerrard, when he was having success at Rangers and they were pushing for him to be the next Liverpool, he got the Aston Villa job and was completely exposed as crap and fear giving Xabi the job without experience is a major risk. My choice would be Klopp’s assistant Pep Linders and carrying on the successful methods Klopp brought to the club. Liverpool have one of the best coaching staffs in world football and if you bring in a new coach from outside, he could remove the proven staff. That is what happened when Moyes replaced Ferguson and he got rid of of all the successful coaching staff to put in the mediocre coaching staff of his Everton team and Man Utd started playing like his mediocre Everton team because they were no longer being coached at that elite level.

Pep liyndard should take over he’s got the youth team to play the exact way clopp played. And they fit perfectly into the first team. So give him a years contract and see if he can step up

I think the job would be coming too soon for Xabi. He's doing great things at Leverkusen and he should see it out. At least stay there for a couple of more seasons and see how far he can take them. Leaving so soon would be a shame. He's on a title run and will be in the champions league next season and I'd like to see what he can do with them in the champions league, rather than leave while he's doing something brilliant. I'd say the same for Emery. He should not leave Villa, stay there for at least a couple of more years, maybe longer. Let's see how far he can push Villa. I'd love to see Villa qualify for the champions league next year, but it'll probably be Europa League at most

@@masslo_jarju literally every transfer season. Liverpool have a net spend of something like 120M over last 8 years. That's basically United/Chelsea/City/Arsenal's net spend every year. There is a real, real risk of Liverpool sliding into mid-table without Klopp.
