Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil Part 34 - Ending
Ойындар
The world is saved, the veil is lifted, and the Kingdom of Sorrow is rebuilt as the people of each kingdom finally decide to intermingle with each other.
I think it's a nice happy ending, despite the sadness.
This isn't the last video, we still have the Mommet House and two more bonus stages to go.

I never noticed until a few weeks ago that Klonoa sheds a single tear right before he leaves when he says thanks. It's around 6:20. Clearly he's also sad to leave.
It's so touching that Klonoa is able to wave a goodbye here, not like the regret and sudden with huepow
After once again beating this on Phantasy Reverie, I can say without a doubt that Klonoa has one of the most beautiful stories I've witnessed in a video game.
when klonoa walks away, the windmill song plays (even if slower) like in the first game when huepow tells him the truth.

Cant find the comment so I will put it over here: "I feel like this franchise was here left the impact and message it wanted to give and then walked away just like klonoa did"
I don't get very emotional or invested in game stories very often, but that hug at the end was absolutely precious. Door To Phantomile has such a stomach punch of an ending, but Lunatea's Veil's ending is nice and heartwarming, especially with the "good morning" after the credits.

In the time between me recording this video and now, I have played Klonoa 1 (the Wii remake). And I absolutely hate that ending. Not only do I feel like it's a really cheap emotional shot, but I didn't really care much for Huepow. I feel like he used Klonoa, to be perfectly honest. However, it does make me appreciate this ending a lot more. Instead of being dragged away, calling his so-called friend's name, he's not walking away stoically, knowing he can't stay. Lolo (a character who is FAR more developed, likeable, and, well, honest than Huepow) is upset, but also knows he can't stay. Accepting sorrow is a major theme of Klonoa 2, of course, but the difference between the two endings is a stark contrast - one has the two forcibly separated, in the other, they part on their own terms.

Since I recorded this (13 years ago, holy....), I have played Klonoa, and I was kind of shocked at how Huepow came across - this character I always heard was an amazing companion and best friend when he was actively manipulating Klonoa and his emotions while lying to him pretty much the whole time. He may have been well-meaning but that doesn't change the fact that throughout the whole adventure, Klonoa never knew the full truth of what was going on, not until he's being sucked out of the world. Huepow could have told him, but never did. I do consider this a failure of the story, because I definitely do not think this was intended. Lolo, on the other hand, does develop tremendously, and even though she is using Klonoa for her own selfish desires at first, she at least isn't forcing Klonoa into it blindly. I also like the contrast with Leorina, a character who travels the same emotional path with the same desires as Lolo but never has the same realizations as her.
Oh how I remember my 5 year old self crying to this.

So what if it's cheesy? I found a liking in cheesy bittersweet endings thanks to this series as well as a certain other series with emotional moments (a quirky RPG).
I'm glad Klonoa properly got to say goodbye this time. Last time he just got pulled away from Heupow, and now that he knows his role as a Dream Traveler, he's finally able to leave Lolo on a good note. But it's also sad because he'll have to do the same in all the upcoming dreams and leave even more people. I cried a bit a the hug tbh. I really hope the remasters have been doing well and that Bandai Namco makes a third game someday, because these games were absolutely beautiful!
After rewatching it a couple times over years, this ending is just amazing. It's almost painful in a way. Some people might find it cliche, but I think it captures the characters and mood quite well. After noticing Klonoa is struggling to speak too, with all the pauses, hinting that he is also sad to say goodbye, he's able to hold his composure to help Lolo understand. I think we've all had a painful goodbye, not knowing what's ahead. This is what puts Klonoa above other platformers for me (besides the gampleay which is great). It grasps these concepts quite well, in a platformers nonetheless that has a coherent story, amazing visuals, and a fantastic soundtrack.
Klonoa is the "Dream Traveler". He travels to other worlds in his dreams, and when his mission is done there, he leaves that world and wakes up in his own.

Now with Sorrow once again remembered, The La-Lakooshans realized that there is more to life than just relaxing. As that is the Kingdom of Tranquility. The Joilants realized that they can’t just have fun all day every day in the Kingdom of Joy. The Volkies realized that there was no point to fighting in the Kingdom of Discord. The Mira-Mirans in the Kingdom of Indecision realized that they need to make new memories rather than living in the past. Because the veil was lifted, the 4 Kingdoms of Lunetea realized that they were missing out on a whole lot because they were too busy pretending that sorrow didn’t exist. Genius detail from the developers I must say.
Recently had to say goodbye to a very dear friend of mine who is heading out to bootcamp and it reminded me a lot of this ending here. Made me realize that the main theme of it is about accepting the inevitable and moving on with life. Both Klonoa and Lolo conveyed that scenario perfectly and it's amazing how well a sad theme worked for a fairly short platformer game. This series has also been a long time favorite of mine, and to relate to it so deeply now makes it even more meaningful. Huge congrats to the former Klonoa team for creating something so memorable in many people's lives.

I'm 17 now, but before I could even read I would watch my dad play this game, and I remembered certain scenes in the game very clearly; one of which was that last scene that says good morning with the ring on the table. Everyone I see on the internet who is a fan of this franchise has a history with it. It meant and taught something to all of us. And we all regret that the franchise looks like it's dead, and we'll never see another Klonoa game. But I like to think... that just like Klonoa leaves the worlds he visits to restore order, he has left ours once he fulfilled his role in the lives of all of his fans. I'm not 100% sure (I never played Klonoa 1), but there seems to be an underlying theme in the games that sad moments happen, and parting with friends is just a part of life, and those you may have to part with loved ones, that doesn't mean you will forget them. Sometimes you have to move on. As a side note, there's probably a connection between the worlds that's left unstated or implied - I don't think it's a coincidence the Kingdom of Sorrow is named Hyuponia (HUEPOW-nia?)

@@UsaSatsui I believe moving on and dealing with loss is a important step in anybody's life. But you cant keep doing that, moving on and on losing people you care about again and again. That's too depressing, people need to settle down and stop with what they got. Losing friends again and again is horrible feeling, nobody should keep feeling that over and over for the rest of their lives. Klonoa 3 may never come out, in fact its 100% likely never going to come out. But I'm tried of these endings of giving in with a reality Klonoa cant alter, even in other dark games where main characters face death and challenges. They aleast get a break of peace, giving a ending they wanted and desired. Klonoa doesn't get that, all he gets is hardship with no pay off. He deserves better than this fate in which he is bound, it's just to sad.
@UsaSatsui
5 жыл бұрын
@@0GlassOfAcid0 That's life. You're constantly moving on and gaining and losing, and you can't "settle down". You can't stop it. That's kind of the point of the game - accepting sorrow as another facet of the world, and learning to deal with it, not wallowing in and focusing on it or pretending it doesn't exist. If you focus too much on the negative and trying to stop it, your fear will keep you from missing out on a lot of the positive. It's also kind of the nature of a protagonist too, when you think about it, especially the "fated hero" type. They don't get a day off. They just kinda have to do what they do. And it is kind of depressing sometimes. As for the "sad" nature of the ending, I don't think Klonoa doesn't look unhappy as he leaves Lunatea - he knows he made new friends here, and will make new friends where he goes next. He's learned to accept it.
