Where I Purchased - Front porch, about 15 miles away
Listed Price - $100
Price Paid - $100
Condition - 75%
These came with the original packaging but the cabinets have some rather large wear spots. Woofer, tweeter, grills and corners are all in good shape, which is the important stuff.
Quality - 8.0
The cabinets feel rock solid and the wrap feels nice and thick and well attached.
If I was going to complain about the quality of these speakers, the area they are lacking is the binding posts. That was my same complaint with the 600M’s but it was worth repeating.
Seeing what Fluance was able to accomplish in this price range, has made me a little more picky.
Sound - 8.0
These sound very nice and have nice bass extension. I just felt that the 600M’s and the MA Silver RS1 speakers are more refined but they should be, since they cost twice as much as these.
Sound great and can get loud, on a budget!
MSRP Rating - 8.5
These are a bargain at the MSRP price of $298. They hold up nicely with speakers costing more, that’s for sure.
We’re they able to hang with the 600M’s? I would say mostly but the 600M’s are way more refined but they should be at double the MSRP.
Aesthetics - 8.5
Again, I’m a big fan of the Klipsch “Reference” copper but the plastic woofer just can’t compete with the quality and looks of the Cerametallic Cones.
The cabinet is nicely sized and I think the grills are beautiful.
Price Paid Value - 8.0
This was a great deal and these would be perfect for those with a darker room or if they aren’t too particular about condition.
The damage was going affect my price paid but I knew this going in. Still a great deal!
Average Guy HiFi Rating - 41.5/50 = 83%
Final Thoughts -
These are great little speakers that will get you 80% the performance of speakers costing double or even many times more.
They have nice bass, clear highs and solid decent mid-range. At my price of $100, these are hard to beat and easily worth the price of admission.

I bought them on sale at half price from a big box store and I was really surprised how good they sound, far beyond my best expectations. The receiver is a vintage Pioneer SX 550 in great shape. Then, following the hype and multiple reviews I just bought the RP600M at 3 times the price and frankly I'm not totally sold on them. I think the R-51 M are a fantastic value for 2 channels music listening and, at least in my room settings, a sub is not needed. Placement is 9' apart, 13' from my listening chair, about 1 and half feet from the back and side walls and on 28" sand filled stands. And yes, you're right, the looks and built quality are second to none.

I really appreciate you taking the time to write all that out! This is the type of information I’m hoping more people see. Sometimes, you don’t need to spend as much money as the internet says, to get good sound. Plus, all ears are a little different so you might actually prefer the sound a less expensive speaker puts out, vs. the more expensive speakers. Thanks again for that post, I truly appreciate it!

Paul Baeg I’m clearly not the right person to ask, when it comes to large speakers in a small place😆 My place is only 600 SF and I’m currently listening to M&K S-150 speakers and a SVS SB16 Ultra. Haha On a serious note, I don’t think those speakers will be too large for your space. It all will come down to tuning it correctly and making sure the bass isn’t traveling into your neighboring units, if you have shared walls. To be honest, in a smaller place like that, you would probably be happy with a bookshelf system, if you get that sub properly integrated. Not trying to talk you out of the 6000F’s or anything, as they seem like a fine speaker but since your in a smaller place like me, space is always at a premium. Thanks again!

I recently bought a set of these and power them with an inexpensive Monoprice 50 watt hybrid tube amp. The sound is phenomenal. I bought both at the same time and haven't tried either with other components, so I don't know if it's the speakers or the amp. I needed something with a great low volume sound without much bass for the bedroom in my thin walled apartment. I'm blown away by how good these speakers and a $178.00 Chinese hybrid tube amp sound together.

Vocals are nice and clear and they are efficient so these speakers are just great for lower level listening. Yeah, stepping up from a soundbar to a 5.1 + home theater can definitely make a night and say difference. Truth be told, a budget minded, well thought out system and room can get you pretty darn close to some of the theater rooms we drool over online. Some of those systems sound absolutely amazing but you can get 80% there with smaller budgets. Closing that 20% performance gap is where this hobby really gets expensive. We all have budgets so as long as you research and make smart purchases, the efforts can be pretty rewarding. Have some fun with it!

Are you looking for bookshelf speakers and are you happy with the performance of the center? I ask because it’s usually best to keep your front 3, main speakers, as close to the same as possible. If you are happy with the sound/loudness of the center, I would just go with the matching bookshelf or towers. If you are planning on upgrading the center down the road also, I’d probably snag a pair of bookshelf or tower Klipsch Reference (preferably Reference Premier), and just upgrade the center to match, then money allows.

Can you recommend something between Klipsch R-51PM, SVS Prime Wireless Speaker, Audioengine A5+ Wireless and KEF LSX? For use with computer via USB/Optical and wireless via Bluetooth with a phone for Spotify or something similar. I like bass, but I won't have a subwoofer, so which one is better here? I like R-51M and KEF LSX from what I saw in reviews - didn't hear them. But the price... They are different in my country. Klipsch is around 600$, SVS Prime around 600$, Audioengine around 450$ and KEF around 880$ - a lot more than others. I think Klipsch being a bit cheaper than KEF, having a dynamic sound and that Dynamic Bass for lower volume could be a good choice, but I'm not sure.

  • @blazermdx

    3 жыл бұрын

I really like KEF and Klipsch speakers. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the opportunity to own any SVS speakers, only about 14 of their subwoofers, but I’ve read good things. For those prices listed, I’d probably go with the AudioEngine A5+ and put the savings towards a subwoofer, if you have a larger room. My boss told me that he wanted some speakers for his office a couple weeks ago and he told me he wants them to cost around $500. I grabbed him a used pair of AudioEngine A5+ in bamboo. They sound awesome and he loves them. With all of that said, I really don’t think you can go wrong with any of the great speakers you listed. I also imagine that the Klipsch R-51PM will probably go on sale for the holidays so it might be worth waiting another week or two. Excited to hear what you choose, please check back in, once you’ve had some seat time:)

I learned something new, thanks! To answer your question, yes, these speakers would be a good fit with that genre of music, if you feed them good power and you aren’t trying to fill a very large room. There’s only so much a 5.25” woofer can do but for their size and price, these speakers should meet your needs. I would consider these speakers more “lively” than most around this size and psytrance is “lively” music so I’d say these would be a good fit. Cheers my friend!

Klipsch makes powered and non-powered versions of this speaker. This is the non powered version so you would need an amplifier, to connect these to your turntable. If you check out the powered version, the R-51PM, you should be able to just connect them to your turntable without adding an amplifier.

That is a pretty large room to fill and pretty demanding music, to boot. @@brettcase4129 what amp do you use? I use Marantz sr4320 and it works really well with the Klipsch. When I tried a chip amp there seemed to be no bass on the Klipsch. Happy you got speakers you like as this hobby is all about personal preference which is what makes it so fun.

you do good reviews !! but your choices for music demo are terrible ! you should play music like jazz- paul hardcastle vocals for top notch female vocalist like Adel, Sade maybe classical or songs from Hans Zimmer just a few suggestions.

I tried picking up albums that would show off details of speakers but I definitely know this music isn’t for everybody. Heck, it’s not my type of music either. Haha I’m getting copyrighted left and right so I’m trying to find some music that will show off speakers and not have copyright protection. Thank you for the suggestions though! I listen to Adel and Hans Zimmer regularly, both sound amazing with clean power on good speakers!

Definitely not as refined but they really did surprise me. They sounded much better than I thought, going on. I’m keeping the 600M’s though😬

I’m definitely hoping to get my hands on more Polk Signature speakers. I was very impressed with the S60’s that I reviewed a while back. Unfortunately, I’m at the mercy of my local used inventory, due to the nature of this channel. With that said, it’s only a matter of time. Polk sold a ton of the Signature series so I don’t expect it to be too much longer. Thanks for the recommendation and for taking the time to comment!
