Best Speaker Under $200 Fluance vs Sony vs Klipsch vs Polk

My apologies for the video quality at the end of the video. The sun came out with a vengeance and it made thinks a bit bright.
We talk about 5 bookshelf speakers under $200. There a few great speakers in the category that represent an enormous value.

I'm glad you also like the Fluance bookshelf speakers. I recently bought the bookshelf's for my front speakers and their bipolar speakers with one woofer and two angled tweeters for my back speakers. I have a 5.1 surround receiver with a Yamaha center and Radio Shack 8" front firing sub. So far I am very happy with the Fluance speakers. Great minds think alike. Enjoy your videos.

I love your channel my friend. I like your sincerity in observing every detail of each speaker. I signed up because I bought a Yamaha Rx V6A Receiver and was looking for boxes ideal for my taste. Your taste is very similar to mine!!! Here in Brazil people really like this Polk box and whenever I give my opinion I say that this box is not worth what it asks for its price. Note: I always follow your videos and as I don't know how to speak English for a while, youtube is not translating your videos anymore, I've already looked at the settings etc even on TV and the translation just disappeared. Keep being that person with your own opinion without being afraid to speak your mind.. Big hug.

I bought a pair of Polk Audio S15's from Crutchfield back in 10/2020 that were on sale half off so I paid $125 delivered as they have free shipping. I paired them with a Dayton Audio 80w 8" powered subwoofer for another $110 delivered and it sounds great. Running the Polks off an old late 1980's Pioneer VSX-9300 A/V receiver.

Doing a re-watch of this. I love the nature feel of this video btw. I also must say that the improvement of your videos (every aspect) is impressive. I like the first couple of vids I watched from you (one of your older ones), and now I'm checking out each new vid as you drop them. Really impressed. The only thing is that I have a pair of S15s. I love them! I was using a Douk amp and now I'm using a Fosi which is better. I'm now upgrading my Fosi to the new improved models that fixed noise issues in BT with BT20A. When you said the S15s were veiled I was shocked! I then switched amps and realized how damn veiled and muddled they were. I use them for desktop (near field) and the clarity at low volume is what I love. I also had Klipsch R41s for a little bit. I replaced with the S15s. .The 41had much more detail, but too bright at times. The S15s are the best speaker you can get (when choosing out of the handful of budget speakers I've had lol). You just posted a notification about the Sony's being on sale. I'm a broke mofo at the moment so I got them used (returned new but with damaged packaging). I'm excited to try them this weekend. I heard so much from you and others on how they punch higher than their weight class and do so more than most any speaker. Damn..my gummies kicked in and I have no idea what I'm rambling about. Oh! Cross overs! I will ask in a more recent video, but who did you get your crossovers for the Sony's?

Great review! So nice to hear both the positive and the negatives. What did you drive the speakers with for the test? It has been my experience that Polk speakers, in general, don’t come to life unless you are running a clean amp near the max rated power. With a lower powered amp they sound just like you described. Night and day improvement with something like an Emotive A/B class separate amp. You won’t believe it’s the same speaker. Not to say your review was not fair, at this price range no one is going to be using an expensive receiver and amp. Just something to note.

You need to try some Axiom speakers man. Made in Ontario, Canada. They're internet direct and have a very scientific approach to sound with double blind testing. They also publish the frequency response and impedance curves of each speaker (they have their own anechoic chamber too). They've been around for like 30 years now. I really like them. Working the holiday last year & getting off work at 7 am. It dawned on me - it's Black Friday !!! I ALWAYS stay home. Not a crowd person. So drove to Best Buy - did some listening & comparing. Picked up the black version of Polk S15 - sale price that morning $ 99 - Now - I've listened to A LOT of Pink Floyd. So I have a pretty good sense of what should be where & when in the music. I personally thought they sounded pretty good. Now with that being said. I have a 14 band EQ which my turntable transports thru. Also a Kenwood amp driving a 12 in. sub. So I was able to modify/manipulate to get it right. I then hooked them up as front mains in my surround setup. Which is where they live now. Will be moving in about 4 months - so I will have different acoustics - so I get to play again. Also building up afew different systems. I would assume for your tests - you listen to everything - NON EQ - FLAT settings bass & treble - WITH & withOUT the loudness - about the only to keep things EQUAL ?? I know some reviews you mention using this amp or that receiver.

I have a pair of RB61 and a RW10 sub for 10 years in my garage with a concrete floor. The mids and highs are amazing. Live music sounds full and I hear notes I never noticed before on songs I have heard a 100 times. Not quite as warm as the Sony's probably, but extremely accurate. I have them about 12 feet apart against the back wall with the sub centered between them. One thing about the Klipsch....I can take them to clipping and they still sound amazing. Other speakers will fall off way before that. I am using a HK 3490 (kinda underpowered). The Klipsch will also sound a bit muddy new. I had to "work" them in for about 50 hrs or so. If you can find a pair of used RB81's I would scoop them up in a heartbeat......

Great review! I have several low-mid range Polk products (M10's, Monitor 40 II's + CSR Center), and I've enjoyed their tone and balance, but they do seem sloppy in the top end. This is especially true in more complex music or when listening for detail. The mid-bass is strong, but the mid-range lacked clarity. They're 'enjoyable' to listen to, but they can turn into a wall of sound at time. They've all been demoted from main room use, and are in the garage/son's room. Recently went to Klipsch RP-280F & RP-450C in the living room, and I really like them! I've toned down the treble a bit in the EQ, and I know they smooth out with break in, but you have to like a bright speaker. But I love the mid-range clarity that they still achieve. I even found some older Klipsch Synergies similar in size to the RF-51's there for $30 at Goodwill. Good shape and sound surprisingly good. But some people prefer warmer speakers, and Klipsch is not that.

@@mark17840 Don't get me wrong, the Polks are definitely not bad. In fact, I often recommend them. They have great bang for the buck at the low end, and some really nice high end stuff! Soft domes are fine, but I don't feel they're as accurate in the top end as more ridged materials as Titanium. The AMT folded paper tweeters are super interesting! I still prefer horns in my Theater/Dance room, AMT's could end up back at home for some monitor style applications. And the upper range of the mid-ranges just don't sound as clear as higher end alternatives. I digressed a bit, but I still have the Monitor's in my garage, for which they work fantastic. My son has my older pair of polks in his room that I bought new for $60 18 years ago, and they still sound great.

How loud is it when "turned up" as you where discribing in your video. I tried out the Teufel power HIFI and listening to music at over 120 dB is like going to a disco. Some music is fine but you should turn down the highs because they just hurt. For home theater I use Klipsch Rp6000f and Rp600c and I was on the fence wheter I should buy Klipsch R51-m, Klipsch rp600m or rp502s. In the end I bought the rp502s because they are ment as surround but they cost the most.

hey CheapAudioMan, I do have these 3 speakers already for more than a year, Polk Audio S15, Klipsch R51M and the Dayton Audio B652 6-1/2" (previous model with a dome tweeter) and thanks to your reviews I just bought the Sony Core Series, have to pick them up tomorrow at best buy, it was really cheap, $73 but I paid only $50 due rewards points, I haven't hear them yet, it will be tomorrow but I can tell you this, out of all those speakers that I already have the best sound for me is the one from the Dayton Audio from parts express, its just more balanced and buttery (like you say) the klipsch gives me fatigue after 20 min, still good to party but not for long listening sessions. The polk ones are just in the middle of the klipsch and dayton, so I'm really exited to listen the Sony core. Again, thx to you, keep it up with your reviews. Now one question, which one would be your best pick if you have to go one step up on the money by replacing the Sony core ones? I mean, the next level after this one, I really would love to have your opinion. Thank you again, have a wonderful weekend and Merry Christmas for you and your family.

Hey man! Good job with the speaker reviews, I do enjoy some bargain audiophile gear, I'm running a DIY setup using some Mark audio alpair 10.3 full range drivers with a pair of peerless XLS 10 to help them out, I'd love to hear what you think of the alpair 10.3 or any of mark adios full range drivers, I think they sound amazing for the money!! Anyway was checking out you video to see if you can help me figure out some good cheap surround sound speakers. Totally help me narrow it down, keep up the good work!!

Do any of these speakers sound good if placed on the floor? I don't have enough room on my entertainment stand and I don't like mounting anything other than small satellite speakers on the wall. I should point out that I plan on buying a pair of one of these speakers for a basic 2 channel hifi setup that will be used to play music only.

@@Hans-ku7vy I'm so sorry I never saw your comment. I ended up getting the Klipsch R-51M (and the R-41Ms for rear speakers). But as luck would have it, I managed to get some brand new Sonys from a big box store for $50 months later so I was able to directly compare them, and I still prefer the Klipschs. The Sonys need... special help. The Extra Bass button on my AVR or a subwoofer felt necessary to get the most out of them, but the Klipschs I could use in direct mode and it nailed movies and music alike (and the Sonys have a higher freq. range on specs sheets, to boot). But the Sonys *do* image better, so they have a separate setup in another room with a sub.

Very interesting.. I have the Polk S15s sitting next to some Klipsch 600Ms and some Wharfedale 220s all on audition and I don’t see/hear what you’re saying. The polks have fairly controlled bass with extended treble. Don’t seem muddy at all. Polk is generally known for giving more speaker for the dollar. See GR reasearch’s video on the Polk S20 with tear down and it has good quality components and great cabinet. ASR measured the Polk S15 and recommended them. Zero Fidelity’s review was favorable too. Based on my audition I’m going to recommend them to folks looking for a good all around speaker at a good price. They dropped to $115 just a few weeks ago. They’ll be going back but only because I really like the wharfedales. Btw ur churning out videos at an amazing rate. Keep it up!

One tip though.. this much be just be but personally it’s kind of offputting to hear you swallow your coffee at the beginning of each segment. Maybe edit that out in the future? Idk, maybe it’s just me. Other than that I’ve really found your videos very enjoyable.

In this review you mention preferring the Fluance Signature to the Elac B6.2, but it seems like in those later videos you gave the Elac more break-in time and like it better. I'm curious which you like better, if price is not considered. (I am seeing Elac get deeper discounts, so it's maybe $170 versus $250 if each was on sale)

I feel like the crisp detail of the amp could be mellowed by the smoothnest of the Signatures top end roll-off. Sadly, I do not have them to test, so I thought, maybe you could give the pairing a try and comment on it. Thanks from northern-ish Quebec.
