Klein 15:1 Ratcheting Screwdriver: Sleek, Modern, Less Bloated. Nice if proprietary is fine with you
amzn.to/38mNiZw The Klein Ratcheting Screwdriver is a 15:1 tool with seven dual sided proprietary bits covering most bit driving needs. The ~28 tooth ratchet provide plenty of arc, and the balance is good enough even with the enlarged bit carousel. This tool is a sleek, modern, less bloated version of previous generations. Even better, it retains that Klein look we all know and love.

"Abomination" is a great adjective for that Klein ratchet. I somehow broke mine a few years ago, and now the ratchets fail to engage in both directions. It just spins freely in both directions. Edit, also, if that new Klein ratchet isn't made by Megapro, I'll be surprised.

That’s the beauty of their lifetime warranty, just take it in to any Home Depot and grab a new one. In most cases you can even get new models like this one if they don’t carry the old one anymore
I have this screwdriver, and while the proprietary bit thing sucks, the screwdriver is very nice to use and feels good in the hand with a smooth ratcheting action. I also appreciate how the bits are stored and the types/sizes of bit included. There are better ratchet screwdrivers but this Klein is very good for the price. You're getting a lot of tool for $20.
I have the same Klein screwdriver as well as the nut driver on your table. Both are outstanding !
Nothing wrong with Klien tools, but a market that used to be obsessed with made in USA, has like yourself has met the internet. There is better out there, but Klien are upping there game. Every one aspires to PB swiss. I have a tool bag, I do not need a tool that does everything, I have room for tools that do one thing very well. Tools for home are different. The proprietary bits remind me a little of another american company named after a piece of fruit.
I have the 15 in 1 & the 14 in 1 . I use the 7 in 1 flip socket set shaft in the 14 in 1 , it works great for me ... Thx for posting ...
I have that one and love it
I wish they had combined the # 2 Phillips and the 1/4 flat blade like most screwdrivers do as those are the two sizes you’re flipping back and forth most of the time. The ability to flip is somewhat useless without that.
You talked me into ordering one.. :)
Proprietary bits are a no-go for me. There's nothing wrong with regular 1" bits, especially if your double ended proprietary ones are twice as long anyway. I just bought a Bahco 808050P, it's sort of a cheaper alternative to the Snap-On pistol grip ratcheting drivers. Maybe you should consider featuring that on the channel, might be interesting to those who like the idea but don't want to spend the money on the Snap-On. It lacks a removeable shaft and has a different bit storage compartment, but overall seems like a well thought out tool.
those flip tip dual end things never work out for me i always leave the tip out to use it as a nutdriver then forget to put tip back in and have a pile of them with missing tips the ratcheting 15 in 1 is my favorite screwdriver now it fits my hand well. i can use the selector for ratcheting with one hand and the bit storage Is good you actually can find bits easily and change them out and put the one you're not using in the handle so haven't lost any yet.
Would have been a better tool if they just fitted regular replaceble 1/4" bits.

This is my exact complaint. I ended up using a magnetic but holder and putting a few neat wraps of electrical tape to keep it from falling out. I think they could've at least put a magnet in there instead of using proprietary bits as is the usual Klein way

You shold weight all the tools the 1 pounder replaces in your tool belt. I was a field tech and a 10 in 1 was a gift from God.
I love the 15-in-1, it's been my go-to screwdriver for about a year and a half now. Unfortunately, the grip has begun to spin on the handle in higher torque applications. Aside from that, it's solid.
they all look pretty big. that one pounder looks like the Doctor Who sonic screwdriver
I’ve been using the Rolgear 15 in 1 screwdriver, in my opinion it is by far the best. The gear less ratchet with almost no back drag is amazing, you don’t waste time with having to hold the bit end to reset the ratchet. It’s slick. It’s not heavy duty by any means but for light to medium duty it’s by far the most efficient driving screws, specially with electrical work. My only complaint it the direction selector, it could be better.

The rolgear is interesting, but for some reason the only one available is the one with the double sided bits. All others have been sold out for more than a year. Similar to the Megapro ones. Seems like the lockdowns really screwed up with both companies production.
I've got one and it stays in my electrical bag as an all-purpose (non-insulated) driver. One of the few multi-bit ratcheting drivers that comes with a pair of combo-bits that are perfect for receptacle screws... combination square and slotted that fits the screw heads perfectly.

I have a Milwaukee insulated set of three that included that tip. The thing is ideal for installing devices. I think Milwaukee calls it a ECX tip?

@@frankrosemeck9898 Correct. I have Wiha insulated drivers... they call it a Xeno bit. Seems each manufacturer has a different name for them. Once you try them, you never go back to a phillips or square driver for the task.
Looks pretty similar to the Wera ratcheting screwdriver with the double-ended bit storage in the back
I use the 15-1 as a daily for Industrial Maintenance work and it does pretty good, the only downside is the rubber handle finally came off after 8+ months of use.
Great review video ! I would like to say however, I just bought this one this week from Amazon and it was $ 29.99 plus tax.
Any idea if the Klein ball detent is compatable with Chapman or vise versa?
Check out Megapro ratcheting screwdrivers. Specifically the Automotive version
If I get one, I will modify it by adding a few neodymium magnets, until it has the right depth for 1/4 insert bits. Or maybe just one magnet, so I can use power bits without a lot of wiggle/wobble.

Excellent idea.
I use PZ-2 and PZ-3 screws a lot (gradually using more T20 and T25 as well). PZ-2 & PZ-3 seem a bit rare in these screw-drivers. Is that partly an America market issue, since more Roberts screws are used in that market?
I'm sure there's a good engineering reason they don't exist but I've always wondered why ratcheting screwdrivers have so few teeth (
@Environmenthrall
7 ай бұрын
The number of teeth helps with arc swing, which isn't so much of an issue with a screwdriver because it's rotational plane is shared with the direction of use. Where as with wrenches it is perpendicular, and needed for tight spaces.
I really am not a fan of bits with ball detents, especially ones that are not the standard 1/4" size. Had some of those ball detent bits fall out. Hopefully, it just rattles around inside the handle, instead of being lost in the bag or job site. Would rather have magnetic bit retention and be able to use any of my 1/4" bits. I also don't like all of that flipping to find the bit you need. I ended up with the Wera ratcheting screwdriver and am liking it quite a bit. Could not justify the cost of the PB Swiss.
Sata ratcheting screwdriver have the same bits with the ball detent
So what’s the recommend if proprietary *doesn’t* work for me?
Can you please do a review of the Chapman MFG ratchet driver sets?
Has anyone had a problem with the ratchet of the klein tool screwdriver breaking?
So I've come to love my Milwaukee 9 in 1 ratcheting screwdriver, and then I have the Milwaukee 13 in 1 screwdriver that has the different nut sizes and ECX bit (the combo bit) I do a lot of electrical and hvac, and Milwaukee hand tools have been better in my opinion to the new Klein ones. Not been happy with Klein stuff as of late.
Wera has a ratcheting screwdriver that uses regular 1/4 bits
I have all of them. I say that with almost no qualification. Gedore silent gear or the Hazet one which is similar are the best. I prefer the basic Gedore because I like the slimmer handle, but the deluxe Gedore and the Hazet have bit storage I. The handle. The Hazet and Gedore use the Rolegear mechanism. All the new klein are ok, but they are foreign made. The 15 in 1 is fine I guess, but it’s annoying because it requires too much resistance to work.
@salty5402

Agree, Gedore and Hazet silent drives are IMO best of breed in this tool type currently. I have the basic Gedore as my go to bit driver - but was pleasantly surprised how good in hand the Hazet with bit carousel felt (expected it to feel a tad too bulky).
Who makes that tape measure?
An upgrade from the previous model but such a shame I can’t use standard bits.....
Personally I’m done with proprietary bits. What happens if they stop manufacturing those and a bit gets lost? To save $10 off the PB Swiss? Nah. Remember the Klein Precision pentalobe bit issue? Did they ever replace that? Do they sell the bits individually? Edit: ah you said the PB ratchet was $100- not sure why I thought $30? Perhaps the non ratchet PB bit driver. Which of your ratcheting drivers do you find yourself using the most?
@lastbesttool

Klein dropped the ball on the replacement bit. They called me and assured me one was on the way. That was before Christmas. I use my Snap On ratcheting drivers the most. Probably because of the shaft selection and there are more of them in the fight then the others. But if I had to use only one, the PB Swiss feels really good in the hand.
I wish they would have kept the old shank design. I need the integrated nut drivers.
Hi Doc, Do you think you could glue in a magnet down the shaft for a spacer to allow you to use standard bits instead on this Klein Tools 32305? Or maybe drill a hole into the magnet to still get it back out if it didn't work.
@lastbesttool
Жыл бұрын
Well first, I don't think you can easily drill a neodymium magnet. I shatter and break many of them doing mundane things. I don't see why gluing magnet would not work since that is how pretty much all other screwdrivers are made. However, the length needs to be there to support the bit which could be an issue. Frankly, there are much better ratcheting screwdrivers out there for not much more money and they were designed for the regular bits from the drawing board forward.
Has no one had problems with the clips for the bits? They seem really flaky. I have some that have broken and then it seems worthless.
3:00... to be fair you can use it on pretty big Fasteners so I can understand the weight there... it's not just a bit driver
Hey Doc, curious of what you think of the Gedore 2675 silent ratcheting screwdriver. It is only 14 euro's over here. On a side note; how is the Gedore angled combination pliers working out? Hope to see and hear about it in a video. Keep up the good work. Kind regards from the Netherlands, Caspar

Gedore (and Inbus, I'm not sure who the OEM is) uses the Rolgear frictionless ratchet mechanism. You can find plenty reviews on that.
Klein screwdrivers should be boycotted for using proprietary hex bits. Especially given the fact that they vary the hex bit size from one model to the next within their own range of screwdrivers so that you can't reuse a bit with a different Klein screwdriver model. There's no valid reason for them to be doing that except to milk the cash cow and blatantly lock you in their products.

I've carried the long version of the Phillips/slotted/nutdriver for years now, but am so tired of replacing it because I can't use other bits when one gets worn. Still looking for a solid replacement for that thing...
IDK if I can convince myself to buy non-US Klein...I might pick one up. I haven't been able to get away from my Klein 11-in-1.

Good review! Can you make a review on Klein adjustable length screwdriver made in usa
$20 now.
Sorry, I avoid as much as possible any & everything requiring proprietary parts/components... always have, always will. Not only that, the increased shank diameter of those multi bit drivers might be 'ok' for unobstructed fasteners out in the breeze, but useless for the ones down in tight recesses etc
Megapro 211r1c36rd
it is a shame they switched to foreign made most are made in USA at least it is not China it is 1/4 inch bits so you could slip in the power driver bits that are like 2 inches if you had to
If they made it here in the US I might bite, but I'm not interested in supporting our American manufacturers moving production overseas. I'll buy any domestically made products they want to manufacturer, but I don't want to give them the idea that the name is what matters and that nobody will care if they stop making things in the US across the board.
It's been 50 years and I still can't find a purpose for a ratcheting screwdriver. I can see a use for having a second arsehole, but a screwdriver with ratchet function? Nope.
Klein made in Taiwan
Just don't like it. There are so many good ratcheting 'drivers, why bother?
