KiwiRail - Autumn on the Main Trunk Line (4K)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Between the 3rd and 5th of March we chase various KiwiRail passenger and freight trains on the North Island Main Trunk from Wellington to National Park.
Included is the new Capital Connection Carriage Test train which ran another test to Palmerston North. The SR and SG carriages (previously used as Aucklands suburban sets) will replace the former MK2 coaches.
On the 5th we chase the Northern Explorer up the trunk to National Park and catch up with a quad header Train 240. We then chase Train 247 down the trunk to Palmerston North before spotting a triple header Train 260.
Enjoy!

Nice shots, pity Mt Ruapehu was covered in clouds in the Waiouru Bank shot of 247

Are we running double headers with the DL's due to their unreliability, or is there another reason?

Most of the Auckland - Wellington - Auckland trains have double DLs due to heaviness of trains I presume. Anymore and usually its because the rear locos are being towed along for repositioning

Great video! Is that shaking of the catenary on Makatote Viaduct normal?

@NZREngine it reminds me of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge - like it is nearing peak resonance. I wonder if it's meant to do that?
