So this morning I had a thought. .... A kitchen sink witha garbage disposal is really similar to DEMA.... The tower of silence has a center part where all the "junk" goes. Makes me wonder if this could be the meaning.... If a kitchen sink made him think of the whole DEMA story?

Most of your theory is right, the way to create a purpose in life is to create something that you can explain. But there's something very meaningful most of us missed; Tyler yells out through out half of the song to leave him alone. But at the end, he yells "Dont leave me alone". If you were to ask a depressed person "what's wrong" or something on the lines, they would say "Nothing, leave me alone". But in their heads, they're really saying "Dont leave me alone", and I think that's what Tyler is setting an example of. I know its out of the topic of the song's meaning, but I feel Tyler threw that in for timesake

I have a theory Maybe the part when he sings "go away, leave me alone" It's not him It's blurryface telling people to leave him (Tyler) alone But at the end Tyler is like "winning" blurryface and take back control on himself when he sings "don't leave me alone" So that my theory for that part (:

I have a theory : Maybe when he says "go away" and "leave me alone" he is talking about his insecurities ,anxiety and depression , he tries to defend and fight back against them and when he says "don't leave me alone" maybe he realises that the only way to find his purpose is by taking advantage of his depression . I also think he said it once i'm not really sure about it

It's a possibility that what happened at his kitchen sink has some involvement with the fact that kitchen sinks produce water. In the Bible, water can represent the spirit of god / life, which is what is probably referred to in Addict with a Pen. At his kitchen sink, he may have realized that he metaphorically is a kitchen sink, meaning he can be in control of his struggle by creating life and purpose for himself with art.

I like to think that Tyler had a great spiritual experience while at a kitchen sink. That he has an important job to do, by using his song writing talents and creating music, he will be someone that people will look up to. He needs to be willing to help in a way that only he can. By talking about depression and anxiety and struggling with questions about God and faith, people will look to him and realize that they are not the only ones dealing with those same issues. Tyler can help them fight their demons and find purpose and meaning enough to stay alive and try to overcome them. I don't know if that makes sense. And I know we won't know what really happened, but that's what I like to think about it. Such a great message and inspiring! I know this song has truly helped people stay alive! Wow! How many people can say that? Thanks for your videos!

Just to clarify: the Pop Song Professor is amazing and very good at analyzing a song's deeper meaning.... but I will not be watching this video. I know that nobody really cares about one person's stupid opinion, but hear me out. Tyler has stated multiple times that knowing that he is the only person who knows how to explain this song gives him purpose, even in his darkest moments. When other people learn and spread the meaning of this song around the internet, it starts to lose its purpose, meaning that Tyler believes that he will lose his purpose. I'm sorry for the long comment but please, please hear me out.

I think this song is hard to understand if you haven't dealt with depression and suicidal thoughts... To me, this song is about finding meaning to your life and finding something to hold on to, you need this something that stop you from killing yourself and that what kitchen sink mean to me.. if you dont have something, whats the point of you living? its really hard to explain this, I've been trying in so many ways but you just have to feel it to really know what tyler is feeling... and also when tyler says "go away" and "leave me alone" and in the end he say "dont leave me alone" its probably really hard to understand if you dont know this felling when you push everyone away and say you want to be alone but you really want your friends even if you stop talking to them, tou want to get well and you want to have fun with the people you love but you keep pushing them... I just think that tou need to feel this to really know the meaning of this song..

I used to get emotional with this song because I have fought depression as long as I can remember. I can totally relate because my natural instinct is to push people away, yet I don't want to be left alone. My wife of almost 30 years died in 2015 at 47 years old, and now I lose it every time at the end of the song. I cry so hard, my cat gets concerned and checks on me. My wife and I had a lot of problems, but we truly loved each other. The arguments were bad enough at times that I had thoughts that I would be happier without her (leave me alone). Now that she's gone and I have no way to reconcile with her, I realize how deeply she lived in my heart. (Please don't leave me alone). It's such a beautiful song and I love it, so I refuse to stop listening to it. I just wish at some point, the waterworks would stop. This song did inspire me to start a blog and putting my thoughts and feelings out into the universe has helped me to heal. I wish I could thank Tyler. Are you searching for purpose? Then write something, yeah it might be worthless Then paint something then, it might be wordless Pointless curses, nonsense verses You'll see purpose start to surface No one else is dealing with your demons Meaning maybe defeating them Could be the beginning of your meaning, friend

I love the chorus for Kitchen Sink, it's super relatable, because often when people (like me) are struggling with their own problems and demons (for me it's depression) we have this conflicting desire that we want everyone else, including friends & people who can help us, away, for their protection or because we personally think we're not worth it or our problems are not a big deal. At the same time we desperately want someone to notice and answer our cry for help, which is why the end of Kitchen Sink is so poignant when after repeating "go away, leave me alone" Tyler screams "don't leave me alone".

i love to think we're definitely meant to sing along with Tyler when he's singing 'go away leave me alone' as a unison of the fanbase to repel those negative emotions, and at the end 'don't leave me alone' because in a way these negative emotions make us the reason why we fight in the first place, such as if we all live without negative emotions it would be more like a hero without a villain, such as the balance between the good and the evil makes us who we are.

I remember, when I was looking at a bunch of tøp stuff, I saw this thing that gets even more deep into the kitchen sink logo. It said that there's a way you could hang yourself with a kitchen sink. So maybe the | represents the sink, the - is the rope/noose, and the / is the person. Idk if that's true, but it's just really cool to think about. 😊

  • @ivymay2533

Anastasia Wadleigh I wouldn’t say it’s a cool thing to think about since the theory also ties in to what might have happened to Tyler at his kitchen sink and that’s why the logo could represent that method of suicide, I think you could put two and two together

(THIS IS DARK AND IS NOT MY THEORY) Did anybody hear the really dark theory about this song, ok starting with the history of tyler, tyler has said that he did try to commit suicide and he did not tell anybody how. There is a way to commit suicide by hanging your self by a kitchen sink, rope would go on the sink and then the person would lean forward, this is vary dark and this way of suicide goes with the song name and the logo of the |-/, and the kitchen sink to him is diffrent because of this.

Shhh, it loses its meaning if people know. What else could be the "catastrophe at my kitchen sink" but that realization to Stay Alive would definitely be a good thing, especially how he spreads the word and uses his music to be there for others who are in the position that he once was.

I think I remember an interview where he said that a friend was playing around on a computer and came up with the logo. I don't know though. He has so many stories, no telling what is real anymore haha. But I can tell that he was very angry as a kid, whether it was all internal or he let it out in different ways. (Obviously, he let it out through his words, but i'm talking about "other" ways)
