Fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is a medical procedure where fecal matter from a healthy donor is transferred into the gastrointestinal tract of a recipient to restore a healthy balance of gut bacteria. This treatment is primarily used to combat conditions associated with disrupted gut flora, such as recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection, where antibiotics fail to provide relief. During the procedure, donor stool is processed and delivered to the recipient via colonoscopy, enema, or capsules. The goal is to reintroduce beneficial bacteria to the recipient's gut, promoting microbial diversity and aiding in the recovery of gut health.
