Kirk Karwowski - 1003 pound squat

Спорт

Kirk Karwowski squatted over 1000 pounds in the early 90s with IPF legal gear and a close stance. His legs looked like big ole' oak trees. It was awesome watching him workout in the gym.

I used to lift weights at the same gym as the great power-lifter Mike Bridges and in the early fall of 1980 I personally witnessed Mike do a legal power squat with 1,025 lbs in a workout. Bridges weighed 181 lbs. at that time and 1,025 was 5.66 times his body weight. It was the single greatest feat of strength I ever saw.

@JPMartin5 Yes, they help to stabilize the joint and protect it but they also give you a little more power at the bottom of the lift.

You can tell it's pretty heavy by the bend in the bar... and the army of people spotting him. Very impressive!

After watching so many of these other guys doing their half squats and some even worse than that, it is very refreshing to see a guy go that deep with the Big Grand on his shoulders. Very impressive. My contest best was 540 at 198, drug free, but drug or no drug, 1000 pounds is a lot of weight. Wow.

For all the people who think they know what they're talking about when it comes to juice and point fingers at kirk need to stop here. Kirk never failed a drug test he was a 5x IPF world champion. IPF isnt your little cheat league federation like most of these multi ply feds are today. Kirk was an animal and a true powerlifting legend. His name easily comes up in the conversation as one of the greatest squatters of all time.

This was a geared lift, but IPF gear and a long time ago, so not exactly the kind of technology guys are using today. Karwoski did hit 826 in a belt at 242. Mike Miller missed 800 at the NERBs at a significantly higher bw. Not to diminish the latter's accomplishments, but I find the Cap'n's accomplishments more impressive.

    1) 1000 lb bench press is with the aid of a shirt. 2)Squatting is a much longer range of motion. 3) You have to add about 80% of your bodyweight to the bar to get the total load. In short, squats are much more work.

Not to take away from the very strong lifters of today. Kirk Kawowski won the Indy 500 with a go cart. His gear is inferior compared to the new squat suits and wraps. The judging was way stricter and the mono lift makes it a lot easier to set up. All these advances in technology are great (except the lax judging). That was a great squat by a great lifter. anyone finding fault with that lift has not got a clue!

I try and make all my squats look like Kirk's depth
