Kings Island History: The Enchanted Voyage

DISCLAIMER: I made this when I was pretty young, so I’m sure there may be some small incorrect tidbits or facts here and there
A huge thanks to John Keeter and Theme Park University for information and research on these rides. Also, a quick edit: Guliver was more like 15ft, not 30 as stated in the video.

I remember Kings Island. I was seven years old when I went. It was my first going on a roller coaster & I definitely remember going on the Enchanted Voyage ride. The Enchanted Voyage is not only my favorite ride but it also very memorable as well. Seeing all my favorite Hanna-Barbera characters really stood out to me. It really made me feel like I was a part of that world. This one of the reasons why I love Hanna-Barbera so much. That ride never got old nor stale. The second time I went was the Winter Fest event that's when I went on the Smurfs ride. It was very enjoyable as well. Kings Island such as Enchanted Voyage, Smurfs ride & Hanna-Barbera land really inspired me become an artist.

Very good video! I miss the original Enchanted Voyage! Perhaps maybe the next overhaul of this ride will go back to a ride thru boat ride and have The Peanuts theming? ? It wouldn't hurt to do the retro theming even though they don't own the rights to Hanna Barbera, they do own the rights exclusively to the Peanut Gang! It sure would be a great new family treat for sure! Thanks Kyle for sharing such a great video! I almost cried hearing that awesome old tune of "My Friends in my TV! The Snail lives on today still at Jungle Jims Supermarket in Fairfield Ohio! As do the old Wild Animal Habitat Monorail ride and many other great former Kings Island characters that resided in Hanna Barbera Land! Such great memories! !

Why won't Kings Island put in more family friendly rides? Those of us who were toddlers when Kings Island opened, are now entering our 50's and have grandchildren. We do love our roller coasters but oh how we long for more of these kind of flat rides that are easier on our aging bodies. Is there any way to get the owners to do more of these type of rides?

The park has a very large collection of family rides, including the new-for-2019 Antique Auto ride. I don't ever see a time when family rides cease to be at Kings Island. Yes, they do have some great thrillers and I do understand your point. A dark/boat ride can be a high maintenance attraction, as with other rides .But a big reason for a interactive dark ride being introduced in the same area as those older classic dark rides was teenagers (and some adults) weren't exactly paying attention to the ride scenes and having make out sessions while riding, which the park didn't care for. By making the ride interactive, it keeps the attention on the ride and surrounding scenes. I do love a great dark ride, especially if it does something unique.

Great video! I sure remember most of those versions of the ride up until the mid-1990's when I moved away from the area. So much fun! I was so afraid of the teeth on that clown in Fantastic Voyage when I was a kid. Wow... what a flashback! :D

Great memories! The Enchanted Voyage was on the level of a Disney dark ride. The earworm of a soundtrack and the animatronics were very advance for 1972. I only rode the Smurfs reskin once and that was the last time I been in that building.

The Enchanted Voyage NEVER got stale to me. The Smurfs was a step down from the original ride and failed to capture the magic and wonder of the original.

Obviously the 'Enchanted Voyage' was modeled-on 'It's a Small World' at Disney, yet no wonder the attraction was limp in its delivery. Given the time Hanna-Barbera was still riding high on their Saturday morning cartoon faire of Scooby-Doo, SuperFriends, Yogi Bear and even the Flintstones, those were golden years for the animation company. I worked at CWL in 1984 when the Smurfs and their permanently staining blue ice cream made their appearance. The idea never really clicked with the public as the Smurfs were viewed by parents as shallow and not entertaining enough on the same scale as what Hanna-Barbera offered over the previous 20 years. The 'Phantom Theatre' was an absolute improvement, but 'Boo Blasters' took the Ride back to its limp-wristed origins.

Similar to the still operating Monster Mansion at Six Flags Over Georgia. I highly recommend riding it.

The song for Enchanted Voyage is titled "Happy Friends". Also, The Jetson's were not part of the ride, and the only Flintstone was Fred hiding with a sign reading 'Beware' in the spooky scene's opening.

Lol, no he doesn't. A Cincinnati accent is kinda twangy. Not a true southern accent but pretty close. It's a mix of country and city that you won't hear anywhere else in the world.
