Terrific horsemanship by this King’s Guardsman. He’s an excellent rider. Well done. - He had a rough shift with this poor horse who was unsettled quite often, was banging into the rear doors a few times, had to be walked around and back into the box a few times, and nearly ran into the road when he trotted off unexpectedly (seen in another video). I’m sure this guardsman was very relieved and happy when he could dismount.

@@shairychristian3666 Might have been one of the younger horses. Just didn’t want to stand still for long. They’re only in the sentry boxes and hour but some horses like this one are sometimes feeling more energetic or restless and can be a bit of a handful. It’s also more difficult to control a horse when you can only do it with one hand and when you’re wearing these type of very stiff boots where you can’t feel anything of the horse (according to some interviews with horseguardmen) unlike regular riding boots where you can better feel the horse so you can also control it more with your legs as well as the reins.

@@bethhayes8427 The horse was trying to communicate with the rider that there's a problem. As a horse breeder for a few decades, I learned that it's necessary to listen when a horse acts up. Very first question (and most times the only one needed once it's answered) is "What hurts?" I can't tell you the number of times a horse has misbehaved, I've asked that question, the owner/rider has said nothing, and then they come to me later and tell me what they discovered was hurting and they were writing it off as "not very well trained at all" or "needs more training to fix the problem". If a horse is hurting, all the training in the world isn't going to fix the problem because it's attention will not be focused on the trainer but on what hurts.

This is such horse abuse. That poor horse has no life. Having someone on his back, standing on concrete, bored out of his mind. His back and legs have to hurt so bad. How can anyone think this is ok. That horse is so frustrated and doesn't know what to do to get out of this awful situation. Why do they have to use horses, why can't these guards just stand there. There is a reason it says don't pet these horses they may bite. I would too if I was put in that situation. This is NOT HORSEMANSHIP. Horsemanship actually shows you care for your horse. He's supposed to be your partner and there is supposed to be trust. This doesn't show that at all. This horse is so ANGRY. Poor old thing

Its a spectacular sight to see, with the horse and guard. But surely if you could get into the head of the horse,it would say "Please let's move,im so bored standing here, while your sitting up there, on my back all comfy ". They must get fidgety and feel the need to move. Its still nice to see a Guard stand there, but the horses move!!!!

Isn't that horse tired of him being on his back all day? That's why the poor horse is slipping he's very tired. Should be giving him some rest and his most beloved favorite foods! Like on Doctor Dolittle: "Don't even think about reaching for that whip shorty!"

If you read through these comments you will see lots of people ask about the time the horses stand in the box and it’s only for one hour then they go back into their stable, relax have a cuppa and a nice plate of oats, hay and maybe a carrot then a doze. Not a bad life, they are totally pampered by the troopers washed, brushed and cared for amazingly well. They even get a little kiss if they are really lucky! They even have vets there for them, so even a little upset they will be checked over. Horses are loved and cared for here.

Impressive calmness and horsmanship from this British Royal Guard, but they could use a slatted flooring in the sentry box to prevent that...

How often is the horse manure washed away? Also how are the Kings Life Guards able to handle the stench?

Sometimes the youtubers complain of the stench when they are filming! I don't understand why the box is not cleaned after every horse. It really surprised me when I started watching these videos.

In the capital of Morocco Rabat we do have the same thing as it is a kingdom too , I mean the horses standing in a certain spot but they made it from the sand to keep them safe 😊 and this is exactly in the entrance of Hassan tower .

That wss a close one for the horse who could easily been injured and those paving stones don't really help as they are slippy at the best of times but with manure that's worse glad both are ok both rider and horse are magnificent

When it gets that bad they should clean it up. That could have hurt the horse and the guard.
