I love your extensive review style, it's always well written with so much attention to detail! I didn't come across this slow down issue when I played it, but hopefully it will get patched soon. It's totally worth it! A great addition to the genre!

I beat this game 100% yesterday (playing DOOMBLADE now, gotta keep chugging through that backlog) and holy moly i was impressed with kingdom shell. I loved everything about it, the setting, the music, the combat and the platforming. But especially the level design and visuals. This is one of those metroidvania's that nails level design. I constantly had multiple paths to explore and things to backtrack to. Level design is the bread and butter of a good metroidvania in my opinion. Much more so than combat or platforming (athough the controls need to be smooth and responsive at least). Here kingdom shell delivers because i felt like i had perfect control over the movement. Even the wisps you mention didn't pose me any issue but maybe those have been patched. As mentioned i also LOVED the visuals, this is one of the best pixel art games i've played so far maybe top 10 even. I also loved the bosses. The queen especially was such an awesome fight. I really got into a flow and almost managed to do her hitless after a few attempts. I love this game, it's one of my top 10 metroidvania's and it's super impressive coming from a one man dev team!

It will definitely be a great addition to the library of console metroidvanias!

I wish the developer would have added just a bit more to combat. Let me swing my sword upwards at least at enemies (vertically). Horizontal only doesnt make it stand out enough for me to be honest when I still have Blasphemous 2 and other games with better combat waiting for me. I asked them on reddit but cant recall getting a response. So I am now looking at Noreya

@@soulsborneseeker I had no idea I'll keep my eyes peeled. I know Nocturnal is not a MV but they also promised to add directional combat and still waiting on them to roll that out before I buy

Hmmm, I haven't played since back then, but I'd recommend mentioning this in the Steam discussion forum of the game, so that the developer can check it out!
