It also shows how art can inspire people to learn more about different cultures and perspectives. I think it is a film that everyone should watch at least once in their life. Thank you for reply and reminding me my favorite movie ‘Troy’(2004), which is based on Homer’s epic poem, the Iliad, which tells the story of the Trojan War. Even enemies can show respect to each other, as the story of King Priam and Achilles demonstrates. King Priam was the last king of Troy during the Trojan War, and Achilles was the greatest Greek warrior who killed Priam’s favorie son, Hector. After Achilles dragged Hector’s body around his chariot, Priam decided to go to the Greek camp and beg for his son’s corpse. He was guided by Hermes, the messenger god, who made him invisible to the Greek soldiers. He reached Achilles’ tent and knelt before him, kissing his hands and imploring him to return Hector’s body. He reminded Achilles of his own father, Peleus, and appealed to his pity and compassion. Achilles was moved by Priam’s words and tears, and agreed to give back Hector’s body.💕

Thank you for the reply. 🙏 Balian of Ibelin was a crusader noble. He was known for his courage, honor, and compassion. He was also a devout Christian who followed the code of chivalry. Some sources describe him as a “knight of God” or a “true knight”.💕 I think that you are more an expert than me regarding Balian, and to elaborate more to other readers,💗 The film depicts him as a blacksmith who becomes a knight after meeting his father, Godfrey of Ibelin. In reality, Balian was born into a noble family and inherited the lordship of Ibelin from his brother. He also had a different wife and children than the ones shown in the film. The historical Balian was certainly a respected and loyal knight, but he was not a simple blacksmith who rose to fame. The fictional Balian was a more romanticized and heroic character, but he was not based on the real events and facts of the Crusades.💕

@@jonathondavies8347 There were 2 crusade expeditions. the first of them, which is the one you described, was the people's crusade , it wasn't backed by the church and was in fact only backed by the idea of being "absolved from sin" if they went and fought to the middle east , it was poorly organized and had little to no supply chain in place, they also dedcided to go by land, leading to malnourishment, starvation and mass looting of farms and cities on the way , many of the people who partook in that crusade died on their way to the middle east. The second crusade , sent 13,000 Flemish,Frisian, Norman, English, Scottish, and German Crusaders in 1147. They also combined forces with a portuguese army of 7,000 to capture Lisbon. The whole of the force was sent by boat from england straight to the middle east, thus having much more supplies and being far away from southern europe to begin with. This movie takes place within the secon crusade period, not the first.

Nonsense. Animals don’t understand such concepts. It’s too much and too unrealistic to expect them to gently grasp with their dirty monkey fingers delicate porcelain teacups- they will shit in them and break them. You cannot expect their little brains that have never come out of caves to entertain things like respect, dignity, privacy, truth. The sooner you will see them for what they are, the better. Nonetheless, start by respecting them. Once they reveal that they’re animals (which is almost instantaneous) it’s much easier.

When I saw the beginning of this movie I thought it was going to be about Liam Neeson (sp) but when Balian entered the scene and took the commanding lead it was a surprise. I felt the power he had even before he was given command of the station to protect the road and the people. And yes, there can be respect between enemies when there strategy is revealed and one knows that it took a man of quality to choose battle in certain ways.

Eva Green ... First time i saw that actress. Her eyes was what i recalled when i some time later saw another movie with her. Which made me google who she was . Have since then watches many movie and series with her. Great actor ...and those eyes ! Meeeooow ! And this movie i saw in cinema when it was brand new, loved it ! Since watches it several times during the years. Such a underrated movie. Then again movie critics always seem to rate everything i love low, and i in return most of the time hate what they rate very high . Lol.

Thank you for reply. The director’s cut of the movie is said to be a triumph, featuring potent messaging about the current state of our world. It critiques and indicts those who use religion as an excuse to enact terrible deeds upon others. The movie’s thesis, that mankind often commits horrible, inhumane, selfish atrocities in the name of religion, sadly remains a relevant topic of discussion today.💕

The Parable of the Mustard Seed...the Kingdom of Heaven resides in a mustard seed....meaning it is we who create heaven or hell to the Earth...most religious types just read the holy words but do little else, others live by them and thus create the paradise by their actions ( "I am not THOSE men...I am Salah-u-din") . Salahdin and Balien are these who act upon goodness, respect, sacrifice, protecting the innocent, the distaste of war and death. These things bring about the kingdom of heaven. This is such a great movie with a very deep esoteric meaning of shaping the world from your own heart and mind. Can you imagine a world where all people acted and thought like this?...It would be a paradise.
