That's not gaslighting, that's just lying. Either way, the way the writers talk about Daemon and some of the characters worries me, it almost makes me feel like the first season was a fluke. They act like Daemon being liked by audiences is surprising in any way... that just seems like a disconnection from reality, a cool and interesting character can be well-liked, no matter their moral disposition. They also made Alicent way too... I don't know the right word for it, blameless? Either way, they've kind of reduced her character, she lacks agency and makes for a sh*tty antagonist thus far. Rhaenys is just plain annoying, she kills a bunch of people and then chooses not to kill the few people that deserved death and would've prevented so much needless bloodshed, and then she acts like a complete c*nt on Dragonstone. I feel like the second season may be the be-all, end-all for this show, because if they make any more mistakes with these characters, then that'll spell the death of ASOIAF.

The episode director said that Daemon set the whole thing up, using his ex-girlfriend's spies to go and tell Otto. The point was to bait Otto into revealing that he spies on Raenerya, and piss off the king (which obviously worked.) In terms of the incest encounter in the brothel, Daemon thought he would be in control and go just far enough with his niece to give the spies something to report...but then discovered that Raenerya was DTF, which threw him off his game and caused him to leave in panic. Since he loves his family, and probably is closest to Raenerya, he realized that he had fucked up and sullied her honor, putting her in a very bad position with the king (and everyone else, should they find out.) This is why he claimed the deed when he was questioned, and asked for Raenerya's hand. It was his way of trying to restore her honor after he had foolishly betrayed her without ever having thought through all the possible consequences.

this is the problem im having with this show. too much is having to be made clear in the after the episode commentaries. this stems from them being a little too subtle in the way they are telling the story. they need to add more dialogue to make some of the characters actions clearer.

Like, im investing my time and my interest. I'm theorizing, analyzing. Finding a meaning. But than, as it turns out, director literally had all this other shit in mind that I couldnt EVER GUESS from the show itself. Because as far as I concerned, Daemon sincerely wanted to show his sister the real city, have some fun with her, which lead to some fucked up shit because he is kinda fucked up and she kinda don't mind. But, in a dignifying manner, Daemon actually stops himself because he sees this shit as being too wrong. But no. For some reason I should've guessed directors intentions that tell almost completely different story. And that's not the first time.

@@BenjamUniverse You and Микита Кривогуб don't need to go to after show commentaries. Just watch the show & pay attention. Everything needed to understand what Rawk stated is in the damn show. If you can't pay attention enough to see it or you don't want to spend the effort then stop watching. I don't want the show to start babying me through the plots just because you can't understand good subtle story telling. Majority of the audience is able to pick up on these things within a 2nd watch through. Half the reactors pick up on it on their first go around. It's shown clear as day that Daemon's old "common whore" was working with the same boy that went to Otto. The boy wasn't even in the same room as Daemon/Raenerya when they started kissing & only got up to investigate after seeing her not Daemon. How would the kid know what happened? He didn't even see her undressed as she had her clothes back on by the time the kid saw her. Daemon literally pulls away from the kisses & you can see in his face the regret & he runs away in panic ON SCREEN. You can see Raenerya start to lead the kisses when he pulls back. It's clear he wasn't expecting her to enjoy it. They've made it clear 150 times in previous episodes Daemon cares about her a lot but he's extremely rash & sometimes doesn't think through his actions. It's also clear she likes him extremely. She's always chasing after him when he's around, she was the happiest person to see him come through the doors with the crown. You didn't need the commentary you just needed to pay attention. I'm sorry this is harsh. I just get frustrated when people target good non-babying story telling because they don't like the complexity of it.

the sex scenes were done very well and showed the pleasure of a woman well, they switched back and forth between the constrast of Rhaenyra's night compared to Alicent's, who was lonely tending to babies and basically imprisoned in a castle, who has to please the King whenever he wants. Meanwhile, Daemon shows and tells Rhaenyra how sex is meant to be pleasurable for the woman just as the man, something Alicent has not got to experience and may never not experience as she does not actually love the King. That's why Alicent was a bit angry at learning about the gossip of Rhaenyra's night, she's envious of the freedom Rhaenyra gets to experience.

It's both. Alicent jealous of Rhaenyra's freedom and she jealous of losing her to Daemon (and I don't think she realise it). Besides my read on their relationship in 1-2 episodes. Where attraction seemed mutual, but not acted upon. My assumption was made on two things: there was no reason to have shots with them hugging in front of a mirror, lying on each other knees, talking about running away together on the dragon(!), Rhaenyra's hurt when her father choose her friend (it felt more than just betrayal, even through she didn't have a real choice same as the Guard) etc. And actresses interviews where they tell that no one stopped them at adding another layer to the relationship between the characters. So, it has to be intentional. And I don't see GoT or HBO playing into queerbating for no reason. The sex scenes were done amazingly, so natural and fresh looking. Clare Kilner (director) did a stunning job in this episode. We certainly got a woman perspective from the characters and the director.

@@somestuff7876 I’d like to think Alicent has a secret crush on Rhaenyra or something but there’s absolutely nothing that even hints st that to be honest, and it’s not a thing based on the book. As in the book Alicent is older than Rhaenyra and they aren’t even that close this was something they changed in the show to give Alicent more of a origin story, so I wouldn’t call it “queerbaiting” it’s simply they were best friends and that’s why Rhaenyra wanted to explore the world with Alicent. You can interpret as them secretly liking each other but Rhaenyra has liked Daemon since she was young.

But the lords here are getting beside themselves and think they have the power to question Viserys and Rhaenyra Viserys is too kind and the lords too comfortable. Viserys should’ve pushed a doctrine of exceptionalism for Targaryen women rulers, the same way Jahaerys pushed one to allow for Targaryen incest. This would’ve got the common folk on his side at the very least. The only way he was gonna control the nobles at this point was through fear.

He took the hat off because he wanted to be seen with Rhaenyra, which would give him leverage over Viserys when he asks to marry her. Two things with Daemon: Everything he does have double meanings and he always aims to have the upper hand. Example: You assumed Daemon stopped because of guilt about doing that to his niece, which might be true in part. But he is also a manipulative fuck that wanted to get at Viserys by ruining his chances of marrying Rhaenyra to one of the many lords that would like to improve their houses standing in relation to the crown. Which is why he didn´t argue with the accusation of "ruining" Rhaenyra, despite them not going through with it. And the third possibility is that he simply wanted her because he is actually in love with her. Or maybe even sees a bit of himself in her (which can be seen in how she manipulates Ser Crispin while also clearly being attracted to him). PLus Daemon possibly being impotent. Suffice to say, all of the above are true to varying degrees and there is *a lot* of conflicting emotions that all influence his actions.

Did you NOT watch the HBO House of the Dragon aftershow? They went into detail on this scene with Daemon and Rhaenyra. There is no assumption any longer and it is absolutely true that Daemon was experiencing guilt because he cares dearly about his Niece. The moment he realized she wanted it is the moment he stopped. Also, you do NOT need to watch the AfterShow to read the body language. He hit the wall because his guilt wouldn't allow him to continue. If he enjoyed being manipulative then he would have either continued seducing her or just left without hitting the wall. Unfortunately. I know a lot of spoilers which I obviously won't mention here. But it is always fun to read the comments of people who think they know these characters better than the writers or actors themselves. 😂

You know, when Alicent went full steam ahead to confront Rhaenyra, it felt like it was something more motivating her. Like a lover feeling betrayed. Apparently that was something that transpired by the actors when the scene was shot and not based on the book. They were best friends once, they loved each other then, but now Alicent is stuck in this life and the resentment is building up. A real clash between them is bound to happen. More now that Rhaenyra lied to her. Love your reactions!

That last scene Rhaenyra didn't have a choice. The point of that scene was to essentially tell Rhaenyra to fall in line or else. Viserys already said he would have disinherited her for Aegon for what she did and Rhaenyra isn't stupid. She's not going to not take the tea and risk being pregnant with a bastard and get disinherited by her father. The succession is the most important thing to both Viserys and Rhaenyra. I also think the point of that scene was to show that Rhaenyra and Viserys' relationship is further damaged because Viserys is over Rhaenyra's bullshit and that was a really close call.

As far as I can see, there are two explanations for Daemon leaving. One is from the directors, that Daemon was shocked Rhaenrya started trying to initiate the intimacy between them and didn't know how to react. Because he's so used to being in control of every situation. The second is that he was planning to take away Rhaenrya's innocence and have her removed from the line of succession. But he realised he does have feelings for her (probably familial and romantically) and that this was wrong, so he stopped himself. I personally believe it's a combination of both these theories

"I don't know if Daemon set that up" THIS IS A THEORY NOT A SPOILER. Daemon was way too driven in episode 3 to just give up what he's built over the last 3-4 years for him to just show up and decide to be a law abiding little brother. He had to have taken her hat off for a reason being that he was the one to give her the disguise. I feel that he wanted them to be seen in the pleasure den so that it would ruin her standing with marrying into any other family so that he would be the only one who would accept her and claim the throne.

Daemon and rhaenyra relationship been hinted at since the first episode tbh even this episode the first scene is her touching the necklace daemon gave her 4 years ago when’s she’s supposed to be looking for a husband so subtle hint there who she really wants lol. Daemon stopped because he didn’t want to use her while trying to piss his brother off so him asking for her hand in marriage was legit. She only went to Cole after dameon stopped in the middle and taught her if she not happy with a marriage she can have sex with who she want.

my theory with daemon (no spoilers) is that this was all his plan. he returned to king’s landing a hero with the king indebted to him and a bond with rhaenyra. he had decent leverage. then he plays hard to get in the garden with rhaenyra to get her to really want to pursue him. when he takes her to that play i don’t think it was as much to teach her anything as it was a way to diminish her confidence in her own future rule, which would push her to lean on someone else (him). finally, with their recognizable hair intentionally exposed, he seduces her to seal their relationship but he can’t go through with it. i think that’s the biggest giveaway that there were ulterior motives, that he felt guilt when she looked up at him with genuine love in her eyes. the second biggest giveaway was that with viserys he still acted as if they had sex when they didn’t, which makes the case stronger for them to be wed. i think while he genuinely cares for her, he currently sees her as a b-line to the iron throne.

So I’m gonna assume that in between the second and third episodes she left him or he fired her and she ended up back in kings landing. And then she was able to use her connections as a high profile whore to open her own inn and employ children to spy for her, and in turn be employed by otto. Similar to littlefinger and varys

Daemon set it up for them to be seen, hence why he removed their disguise once they reached the pleasure house. He knew Otto has spies there. Remember the “Heir of the Day” drama. The hope was to get Viserys to agree to marry them. Rhaenyra is heir to the throne and whoever becomes her hubby is The King Consort. Defiled is intercourse. Daemon had every intention of sleeping with her there but he couldn’t get it up. Luckily for him they thought he did anyway. It backfired on him because Viserys doesn’t want him anywhere near the throne and he’s already married, something he keeps hoping others would forget.

That would be like if one of my parents married my friend and got children with them, I'd be pissed too. Of course, they didn't really had a choice in the matter, which didn't help. If anything, I blame Otto more for that instead of Alicent. Rhaenerya should had directed more of her anger and resentment on Otto since that was his little scheme anyway.

Its been confirmed by both actresses that there is supposed to be something going on between them, it's not just one-sided on Alicent's part. But due to her marrying Viserys and betraying Rhaenyra (in Rhaenyra's mind), the two have a very tense relationship. And I also believe partially why Alicent became so upset at the prospect of Rhaenyra sleeping with Daemon, aside from the political implications and her personal feelings, is that she feels jealous of Rhaenyra being able to pick whom she wants to sleep with and have some freedom, whereas Alicent was married off and has stuck in the castle pumping out heirs ever since. Also quick thing about how Viserys keeps getting cut up by the throne: it's established within the ASoIaF books that there is a superstition around the throne that if an unworthy/weak king is to sit upon it, the throne will cut him to signify this.

It's interesting the actresses are playing it that way because nothing about F&B suggests that. Heck if anything F&B hints at Alicent having a crush on Daemon. Also, I'd take the words of actors with a bit of salt because oftentimes their view of the character gets contradicted within the story, so I'd wait for the showrunners to confirm if that's a thing.

Rhaenyra definitely also had a thing for Alicent. It was obvious in the first episode.

Daemon's plan was to "mess" with her. But seeing that she actually WANTED to kiss himm he was like oh shit. Im supposed to be corrupting you 🙉

Daemon was literally killing two birds with one stone. #1. Exposing Otto for spying on the royal family. He knew that Otto was spying on them when the King found out about him saying "the heir for one day". So, when he brought Rhaenyra to the whore house, he purposly took off his and her disguise so that the spy could see them (the kid that was following Rhaenyra). On top of that, he paid that kid to probably add juice to the actual story like claiming that they actually did the deed (which is why they gave contraceptive medicine to Rhaenyra at the end). But the truth is that they didn't do anything but kiss really. #2. Marrying Rhaenyra to get on the throne or doing it for her honor. Now that people know that Rhaenyra is "sullied", nobody will want to marry her. So, the best candidate would be Daemon. I mean... incest was bound to happen anyways as they were already planning to wed Rhaenyra to either her brother or her cousin, so who cares if it's Daemon fr lmao (that was probably his perspective)? I think it was clear that Daemon wanted the throne. He wanted to be heir since ep 1. I just think he didn't want to hurt his family in the process. Now the issues: 1. Rhaenyra was DTF and out of his control and that caught him off guard. I think he genuinely cares for her tho which is why he stopped. At least, his plan was not to get her pregnant. 2. Rhaenyra, in heat, went and slept with somebody else. If she gives birth to that child, people are either going to think it's Daemon's (that could be good or really bad) or a bastard child. If she drinks the medicine, it's gonna prove that she did sum sum with Daemon. 😭😨
