Well I’ve disassembled everything and it all looks good, even the small holes were all clear. Can’t see why it would be hanging on one of the backwash cycles. Back together now and will see what happens next time around the cycle!

Thanks for this video, it has given me the confidence to have a look inside my old HE water softener. It has started regenerating too frequently. Nothing leaking either within the reservoir or around the house. I’ve bypassed the softener for the last 30 days and my consumption based on my water meter readings has reduced by 20%. I think the Kinetico may be over-registering my water use. I’ll look for damaged teeth on the metering gears.

Hey P Mill I have a suggestion to make. Make sure you are not using any water I.e. taps off, dishwasher and washing machine. Take a look at the water meter and see if the little dial is moving around slightly. The reason I suggest this is because it is unlikely that the softener is to blame. The increase in the frequency is more likely to be because of water usage. By trying this method you eliminate a dribble which would cause this problem. It could be a tap dripping or more likely a toilet internally overflowing which goes unnoticed. I should do a video about this. Let me know how you get on please.

Amazing video, absolutely perfect. I put a silver "Sharpie" marker stripe diagonally on the housing so I immediately knew which way everything went back. Could have done with this video a year ago when we had issues. Turned out to be old media in our case and I replaced it quite easily. One question though should I have filled the media to the top of each cylinder? (I was supplied with 9 litres, 4.5 per tank) but a few sites suggested to only fill two thirds (which I did and have obviously had media leftover), I didn't worry as both water pressure went back up and softening was working again. If you did a video on the media replacement, tank cleanout and Meter Disc break down that would add to an already perfect rebuild. Many thanks.

Thanks for your suggestion. I haven’t found any leaks or drips, but I will do as you say and monitor the water meter when everything is supposed to be off. I have a Kinetico twin tank, not sure but it may be about 15 years old. Model High Efficiency 07/02 - 01524. I don’t know the technical specs so I’m estimating that it would soften 1,500 lts between regenerations, and would use 30 lts during a regeneration. Our water consumption is low. The water meter has been fitted for 9 months and the water consumption has averaged 260 lts/day. That fits in with a rough calculation for the use of toilets, showers, washing machine, washing up and cooking. Lately the amount of salt blocks consumed has increased to a block every 10 days. When the Kinetico was bypassed for a month the rate dropped to 210 lts/day. If I assume the difference in daily usages (50 lts) was being used in regenerations then it was regenerating once or twice every day. It is hard to hear it in operation. I’ll let you know how the meter test goes.

Hi and thank you for the great video My issue is that, I get a good regen cycle on one side, and not on the other one When it starts the rince/brine on the "bad" side, it doesn't suck in the brine from the tank, I can confirm that when removing the brine pipe, there is no vacuum on the brine elbow and water is actually getting out from it On the side that is working correctly, if I do the same, I get the vacuum, and obviously, no water gets out I opened it, everything looked clean, no parts blocked no clogg anywhere, when I reinstalled it, it worked once on both sides, then the bad side went faulty again after just one cycle... I used silicon grease on the quad seals everywhere, I don't know if that is recommended, although, on the first opening, I saw that there were some silicon grease The more I read in different places, the more I think that the seals and cones need to be replaced, although I'm surprised because my unit is only 6 years old, but even if I wanted to replace them, I can't find them anywhere, nor can I find the best silicon grease for this... What would you recommend? (I'm in France...) Many thanks

When the cycle has completed, you are not getting the refill? Remove the brine pipe at the top of the brine valve. Sounds like an airlock there. Be quick to push it back in when you remove the air and the tank should refill.

@@TheWaterBoyuk when not regenerating, the pressure of the water behind the float valve is so high that the valve cannot open. is this correct? I presume at the end of the brine suction, the water pressure is reinstated and as the float vave is open, water flows in unil the correct level is achieved, then the valve closes and cannot open again due to the pressure. is this how it works?

Great DIY videos - Thanks for this and your Level 1 postings - concise, precise linnear tutorials! I have a Q237 model with a #3 disc. My system manually regenerates perfectly, but doesn't automatically regenerate. I never noticed when it stopped automatically regenerating but I suspect its been since the city replaced the water main on the street, which initially resulted in sand coming into my water meter. The city replaced the water meter and I replaced the pre-filter on the Kentico system following. Having said all that, why might a Q237 stop auto-regenerating while manually regenerate successfully? Cheers

My machine was exposed to cold. I had water running in the house so I suspect the head and one of the tanks is okay because water was flowing through it continuously. The other tank may have froze inside because the water was stagnant. If this happened, pieces from the other tank may have become lodged in the control head. What do you think?

@@TheWaterBoyuk Sorry for waiting two years to tell you how things went with this unit. I let the unit sit and started working on it four days ago. I've taken the head apart and cleaned all of the iron buildup off of it. I checked it thoroughly for cracks and couldn't find any issues. I did find where the brine tank float valve system failed and didn't stop water from entering into the tank. During the brine*rinse portion there is a vacuum. The rest of the time, if I disconnect the brine hose from the head there is water coming out, even when the unit is not regenerating there is a trickle. Is this normal or should it stop at some point? The unit is 28 years old and never been worked on. I'm assuming the O-ring gaskets around the 4 valves on level four eventually age and harden, needing replacement? Could replacing these gaskets stop the water from trickling out of the brine pipe, or is this normal? Thank you. Bill

Thank you for an excellent ‘breakdown and reassembly’ video but unfortunately it didn’t cover the meter disc. I have a 10 year old unused Kinetico 2020c HF softener which I at last want to install. My water supplier is Essex & Suffolk Water. Our postcode is IP237EE in their Water Quality Zone SFZ510 for which they quote Mean Total Hardness (mg/l Ca) 185mg/l Min Total Hardness (mg/l Ca) 160 mg/l Max Total Hardness (mg/l Ca) 210 mg/l They say to use the Mean Total Hardness and not the Maximum Total Hardness and not to multiply by 2.5 to get value in mg/l CaCO3 Two queries: 1 If I use 185mg/l, the Kinetico 2020c installation manual says 185ppm would need a Disc 3 at 0.22kg setting which seems very low for a Very Hard water area. The original installation manual gives values in ppm and doesn't say ppmCa or ppm CaCO3. When I queried this with them they said ‘We would use the 185 mg/l Ca’ Would Disc 5 at 0.22kg setting be OK for IP23 7EE? 2 When changing the Kinetico meter disc there are two O-rings. The smaller one goes on the snout below the cross-head screw but where does the larger one go? Is it anywhere on the pressdown plastic piece
