Kindness Reunites 67-Year-Old Homeless Man with Birth Mother

Thanks to an act of kindness by an Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy, a 67-year-old man living on the street in the East Bay was recently able to meet his birth mother in a reunion 65 years in the making. Elizabeth Cook reports. (3-15-18)

Wow! What an amazing story. I found my mom after 50yrs. She was literally pissed!! She only cared about the reputation that would inflict on her husband of 47yrs, their grown children, church folk and grandkids. She didn’t want to present me until her lies were straight!, I had to look a certain way, well educated, financially stable, A career to their standards and live a posh lifestyle.. I didn’t fit any of their wishes, so I was made to suffer the consequences for finding them. They literally treated me like shit stuck on the bottom of their shoes. I knew exactly what they were expecting, And I did just that, I left and never looked back. I borrowed money from a friend to get to California. They wouldn’t even pick me up at the airport. Once I got to their mansion, I was definitely in awe. Stuff I’ve only seen on tv. I walk in and everyone ignored me, looking me up in down as if I wasn’t worthy to be in their presence. I ate dinner there, but wasn’t allowed to stay in their home. SMH! 4 extra bedrooms unoccupied! So, I had to find a cheap hotel. I left California the next day. Life’s lessons..

I just read your comment Di Maria about this gentle soul who was reunited with his birth mother about November,2018 for a few hours, why did he not stay,I say his birth mother didn't insist on her long LOST son to stay with her????so now I read 2 commentaries,he is homeless again?????? He should be on disability and get a social security check by now, since the police officer got his I D. Back. What is going on,on the street AGAIN????He speaks softly, has a kind soul, doesn't abuse alcohol or drugs the police officer said. That birth mother is 85 years old and he is 67years. What is going on???sad, sad, someone please help him to get a roof over his head.I don't get it either??????He has been homeless 30 years and did not have a happy homelife with his ADOPTIVE PARENTS,thanks to their own children?????this is about my 4th commentary Jan 1st 2020 Happy New Year Di Maria

@Di Maria it would only seem right to think of his mother. his siblings didn't have anything to do with abandoning him nor would they have anythingto do with him going back to his lifestyle. Obviously he didn't want to stay or none of them wanted him in their home. maybe he doesn't want to go live in a retirement home because he would be eligible. But All of his siblings came after him so they don't have a connection...they just wouldn't give a s***. They don't know him. I'm adopted and I met my siblings many years ago, we are still not close and it's two different families of siblings. There's just no love connection and too many years. I wasn't trying to cause no problem. It's a shame adults cannot speak kindly to discuss ideas.

A lot of close-minded and ignorant comments about this video. That was one day in all of those people's entire life. His biological family was used to live in one way and he is used to living another way. That was only one day. It takes time to adjust for everybody especially that man that has been homeless for this however many years. You don't just throw everybody in the same room on the same day & live happily ever after. That's not how it works. There's always things that need to be worked through whether good or bad. It's just an adjustment. It very clearly stated they were talking about holidays and other visits so in due time everything happens when it should.

I agree with you. You don’t just throw everybody in together and expect everybody to adjust even if they really want to. I suspect that he, as a grown man, well either want to move close to them, or will stay where he is with peace in his heart that he found out that he actually has a biological mother and biological family. That may be enough for him and he can still be involved with them.🩷

Hats off to the Deputy for caring and getting the ball rolling. Trucking can pay well, but the loneliness being gone sometimes months at a time is tough. And only the toughest people can handle it. In his case I think truck driving readied him for living on the street. And Mick if you are reading this, I am not homeless but I am alone and have no family. I would love to meet you but if nothing else we can both know we are not all alone between the two of us!

Ah this brought tears to my eyes. It's strange how sometimes adoptive families don't treat adoptees too well -- it's rather illogical. I had a similar experience and also met my biological aunt and uncle 11 years ago and they are amazing. Still no mum or dad though.

OK!!! There needs to be a follow up to this! Too many questions left open to this piece. Is this guy still on the streets or has someone in his REAL family stepped and given this guy a bit of a helping hand!

What a wonderful series of events.. which lead to this dear man's reunion with his mum and other family members. God bless those who made it happen. What a wonderfully uplifting story. Thankyou so much for sharing.
