Kindle Paperwhite (2021) | Initial Thoughts & Comparison to Basic & Scribe

I picked up a second-hand Kindle Paperwhite, so lets talk about my initial impressions of it. I'll also talk about how I feel about it in comparison to the other Kindle devices in the range, the Kindle Scribe and the Kindle (2022).

My first Kindle was a Paperwhite, but I bought the newest basic model and found I liked it better. It just feels like the perfect size to me.

I’ve not been using my BOOX long but I like it for the reason you said. I can read on any app. However my mums kindle I find easier with the clicky page buttons

I'm very happy with my Paperwhite, the ease with which epubs can be transferred and the abundance of titles compared to Kobo and other online stores was a no-brainer for me. Though, I am thinking of maybe getting either a Kobo Libra of Clara, the Libra because of the page turn buttons (since the Kindle Oasis has been discontinued) or the Clara simply to try out the allegedly superior and newer Carta e-ink technology + if I like the kobo better, since I'm already downloading a lot of books in epub, I'd have no problem to try the method to unlock kindle books via calibre so that the book can be transferred to kobo. I don't have a library card yet, but when I get one, it'd be nice to have both kindle and kobo on hand, since not every library has the same method of borrowing books and, apparently, Kobo is more user friendly when it comes to the library. Though, my existing physical and kindle TBR are both so massive, I'm not sure when I'll get around to doing all of it. 😆

I actually ONLY have a paperwhite and I’ve had some issues with whispersync too. Wonder if it’s an issue with that model specifically or if it’s just tough tech.

I have heard alot that the new basic one having 300ppi, non flushed screen has sharper text than paperwhite 5 and gives more of reading from a book feel. The flushed screen has less crispy text and gives an impression of reading on tablet compared to basic one due to waterproof flushed screen covering the display. Did you also notice it or not?

I haven’t had too many issues with whispersync, but I don’t do audiobooks, so maybe that’s part of it? Not sure. The fingerprint thing doesn’t bother me as I don’t really look at the back of my kindle much. 😊
