You are unbelievably attractive! I like that your review is laid back, honest, and not scripted, unlike most youtubers who over-edit and over-act and add music. Keep this type of style and keep making videos, you're very natural at it. And my goodness are you good-looking! I really dig your style.

I started using eReaders back in 2010 right after having my son (rocking a newborn while trying to read large paper back Game of Thrones was not doable lol) and my 1st device was the Nook. I’ve loved the Nook and continued to purchase them. When the pandemic hit and libraries closed I purchased the basic kindle so I could read library ebooks. Well here I am 3yrs later with 3 Nooks and 3 Kindles lol. My go to devices are the Kindle paperwhite 11th gen and the Nook GlowLight 4.

Just got the Kindle Scribe on Prime Day, and I love the size and build quality. The way I hold my paperwhite, I turn it off accidentally every few pages. The Scribe is the first Kindle in ages that puts the power button in a somewhat reasonable place. Wonderful video--I especially enjoy the way your personality shines through, even when discussing tech specs. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for your kind words. 🤗 I hear ya on the position of the power button on the Paperwhite. I think that the cases that I use on my Paperwhite keep me from hitting the button because I hold it with my finger right under the button. The placement on the Scribe is MUCH better.

Great comparison! I love my Signature Paperwhite. It does just about everything the Oasis does, has wireless charging, AND feels so much better in my hand. Plus I love the agave green color. My kid has the sage from the last model and I like the agave just a little more.

This is a great video, buying ereaders can be so addicing. The last Kindle I bought, before the Scribe, was the 2017 Oasis. I love the feel of it more than any ereader device and prefer the buttons. I wanted to get out of the Amazon walled garden and bought a Pocketbook Era a couple of months ago and I love all the features. The page turning and UI navigation is a tad sluggish compared to Kindle though. Honestly I think they were very ambitious with their software and the hardware is a bit lacking to handle it. It's an ideal device though for someone who likes to manage their ebook library heavily using a computer like myself. I came across the Scribe Mother's Day Sale and couldn't resist, now its my favorite ereader for at home (where I do most of my reading). I keep the Pocketbook Era in my purse and frequently wish for its added features while on the Scribe but admire the snapiness of Kindles and larger screen at the same time. It sure would be nice to have all my books synced with another Kindle though lol.

I just got the Kindle Paperwhite and I'm absolutely loving it so far. The size is perfect and the warm light is awesome for reading at night. I don't really have any complaints other than agreeing with you that they should have done the color all the way around lol. Kind of a weird decision. Other than that though, I think it's awesome! I almost bought the Oasis, but I don't think it's worth it until they do an update on it because the Paperwhite can do almost everything it can do just without the buttons. Thanks for the review!

I have a 2018 Kindle Paperwhite that I love and use pretty much on a daily basis. I love it because I can read it no matter what lighting I am in, plus it's portable and the battery is really good on it. It is slowing down though so am planning to upgrade to the Signature edition around Prime Day. I also have two Kindle Fires, one of which I borrowed to a relative who needed a device to read on while recovering from surgery, the other one I bought last year. I also have a 2011 Nook Touch (which I'm pretty sure can't even turn on any more) and a Nook GlowLight 4 that my boyfriend bought me for Valentine's Day which I also love. I've been a B&N member for a long time and been meaning to replace my old Nook. I love this new one because it also has buttons that I can press to turn pages and a button to press to return to the home screen. I think also once a month if you're a member you can get one e-book for free of which they give you a few choices. Depending on the book, I can sometimes listen to the audible narration for free while reading the book when I've borrowed some Kindle Unlimited books. Some of them give you the option of a reduced price when for narration when you purchase the book. Others, sometimes the narration is included. The special sale up to Mother's Day for the Paperwhite didn't include the green color though sadly.

There are quite a few e-books you can get for free with the Nook and there are also some books that are buy one, get one 50 % off. If you do decide to get one, I hope you enjoy the Nook!

For my larger or heavier devices, I use the bigger elastic bands/straps that I can stick onto the back with adhesive, the ones really made to be used with tablets. For something like the Scribe, I'd probably stick two on the back as well, for if I want to hold it with my left or my right hand. But I have always avoided readers that big. I'm considering buying a Fire 8 HD tablet because the 10-inch one is too large for me.

You touched on a point about the page-turning mechanisms on ALL e-readers that unhyperbolically drives me nuts: swiping the screen left or right to page turn. The single-most frequent action I perform on any ereader, by a LONG shot, is advance to the next page in a book. 99.99% of the time I touch the screen, it's to advance to the next page. So...why can't I configure these devices such that a single tap *_anywhere_* on the screen advances to the next page, and a single swipe anywhere on the page and in any direction, goes back a page? Seems like a no-brainer, no? I'm fine with reserving the center of the screen for calling up menus, or even swiping up/down from the bottom/top...whatever. But for the love of God, give me more control over how I perform the one thing that I perform almost exclusively during a reading session: page advance!! What do y'all think?

@@MarisaAndChew I want to tap *anywhere on the screen to 'page-next', and swipe *anywhere and in any direction on the screen to 'page-previous'. My motivation is simple: when I read a book, I swap the ereader back and forth between my left and right hand, and I don't want to have to perform a different page-next action based on what hand I'm holding the device. Left thumb, or right thumb, I wanna tap to got to the next page, because page-next is what I want to have happen 99.9% of the time when reading.

I started with the very first Kindle and moved up to the first gen. basic Kindle when they came out. I happily read that for several years until the earlier version of the Paperwhite came out and moved up to it. I loved that model but when it got to the point where the battery wasn't holding a full charge anymore I replaced it with the 10th Gen Paperwhite and was very disappointed in the ergonomics of that device. The flush bezel caused me to change pages all the time when I didn't intend to and they must have slightly shifted the power button on the bottom because I also found it very easy to put the device to sleep or power it off unintentionally. I also hated the warm light. That function is available on my Android tablet and I find it very uncomfortable to switch to that mode. I have blue-blocker lenses in my glasses since I am on my computer a lot and find that I don't have a problem with eye strain or sleep issues. I have the latest generation of basic Kindle now but found a source for a refurbished 2015 7th Gen Paperwhite and it should be here this week. I will be happy to have it up and running when it arrives. Thanks for the comparison and for highlighting the merits and flaws in each model. I love mine. You can get one on unclaimed baggage for I believe like 40 bucks right now if you snag it before someone else does. But I feel like the new paperwhite is still a downgrade to the voyage. I'm in Canada and the colored options aren't out yet on Paperwhite, I'm guessing prime day or maybe afterwards. In Canada Bluetooth also isn't a feature and while we do pay more for the device there are never ads. It's a bit frustrating to know the hardware is identical but things like the Bluetooth just aren't here. I don't do audiobooks usually but it's the point, I'm paying like 159 for the Paperwhite and don't have a basic thing like that 🤷🏼‍♀️🤔 I love my Paperwhite but i do find it harder on the hands. I would love if they dropped the base model and turned it into a Paperwhite mini, so the flat screen, waterproofing, nice texture etc but at the slightly smaller size for my hands (i have arthritis).

Thanks so much for your thoughtful review! I forget that different items are available/unavailable in different markets. I agree that the lack of bluetooth isn't cool. And YES to a small Paperwhite!! The additional weight and size of the current Paperwhite adds up when you have small hands or some type of physical issue. A smaller Paperwhite would be perfect!!

No, the Audible doesn't highlight the text, there is no immersive reading. However, it works on your phone, major bummer that a feature available to phones is missing from the actual device.

I got my paperwhite last year. My first kindle and its great. I once tried the audible and book syncing, but apparently that only can be done using the Kindle app in your phone, not on the actual kindles 😪

I do LOVE the Paperwhite, and you're right; it doesn't do the syncing while you're reading thing. You can get it to read to you by using the accessibility features, but it doesn't highlight the words as it's reading. Only the Fire and the apps do that right now. I wonder if that's just a limitation in the software of the Kindles. 🙄

I’m trying the kobo plus which comes with audio books and books and I find borrowing books easier on the kobo. Also they have a few books just on kobo.

The Paperwhite is the best. Hi from the UK. Do you need the 16gb over the 32gb? What about the dock?

  • @fitdaniellereads

    @fitdaniellereads

    Жыл бұрын

Hi in the UK! I LOVE the Kindle Paperwhite!! As far as memory size . . . I have NEVER had issues with running out of space on a Kindle. E-books really don't take up much space; the average 300-ish page book is about 2.6 MB. Audiobooks are a bit bigger; they run at about 28 - 30 MB per hour, but that's still not very big. So, I think 16 GB is more than enough space. I don't have a dock, so I don't know how useful they are, but I can say. that you don't have to have one. 😀 I just have charging cables all over the place, and I plug my Kindles in from time to time. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching, and thanks for your questions. Have a great weekend!

The whole point about an ereader is to read a book. The Scribe is not an ereader, it is a tablet. My advice is buy an ereader and a tablet if you need it. Don´t compromise!

  • @fitdaniellereads

I think that when the Scribe came out, it was sorely lacking as an e-tablet (meaning specifically e-device for writing, not a tablet like an iPad or something). I think it's gotten better with updates, so I'm planning to do a comparison between the Scribe and the Remarkable 2. Maybe I'll do Scribe vs Paperwhite as an e-reader and Scribe vs Remarkable 2 as an e-tablet and see if it measures up in either category. Thanks for the additional idea!!
