Not surprised about Kim's appreciation for 1990's Rap/Hip Hop groups. Sonic Youth collaborated with Public Enemy on "Kool Thing" (Sonic Youth's Goo album 1990) & Cypress Hill on "I love You Mary Jane" (Judgment Night soundtrack 1993)

I met her at The Metro in Chicago. Waiting in line for the dumb stoic, incredible and ridiculous meet and greet, i was wearing a dumb fan shirt i made with a collar. She almost didn’t look at me, and said, “ oh …..is that our new polo shirt? “. I said yes, and asked her and Lee to sign it. He scribbled his name legibly. She wrote a big “K” with a scribble, but then she drew a big lipstick with lips behind it. Steve didn’t say much. “T” word had too much to say. I sadly lost the shirt a couple years ago. It just disappeared into the ether waves.

@matthewcoombs3282

@@Spectrescup It is funny how they were compared. I think of them as different bands both with a love of drone. I saw both S3 and Loop in the 1980s several times and preferred Loop they were more ballsy and upfront to me, live they took no prisoners. S3 were a bit more languid and trippy.
She's still so cool and has great taste in music, even years later

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this channel and these real people beat any algorithm or cookie-cutter playlist, for recommendations, any day.
I feel validated by Kim for loving Spacemen 3. They don't get talked about much like Spiritualized when they're equally just as great. I used to listen to Sound of Confusion over and over and I very much prefer it to The Perfect Prescription. Their signature drone-y sound is so hypnotic that putting down the record isn't nearly an option.

I just read that yesterday and loved it.
You could spend a solid week watching every video in the “what’s in my bag” series and learn nearly everything worth knowing about the history of recorded music. You could then spend the next few years listening to everything you learned about and emerge as an incredible music expert and be utterly enriched by the experience. Nothing better on KZread.
Love her. Spacemen 3!! Loved how she described them.
Kim picking up 2 classics ! From Manchester 🇬🇧 Joy Division " Unknown Pleasures " One of the best debuts ever. Also going heavy with Led Zeppelin IV ! & " When The Levee Breaks " She's Kool.

Rock n roll legend! And her style is so awesome
Kim Gordon is one of the most prolific artists, be it her work on Sonic Youth or her individual work, her creative output has remained absolutely extraordinary in content as well as form, covering themes from a vast array of human experiences which are timelessly relatable. Sonic Youth's impact on alternative music scene and pop culture in general is phenomenal, and Kim has stood out as one of the few icons who continue to invite keen interest and awe. While many artists have explored difficult subjects, her work has always been rooted in a certain raw sincerity, crafting music that despite being hard hitting as was needed, never veered away from being compassionate. Her persona having become a style and cultural icon is reflective of her appeal as an artist committed to embodying all that they stand for.
Awesome
She has aged incredibly well. Kim's the coolest.
Hell yeah! Thanks Amoeba Sonic Youth is a huge inspiration to me
I always appreciate that the OGs on this series tend to never have pretension in their selections

You always learn new things watching this series, no matter how long you've followed music. Like of course I know Sonic Youth, my first favorite band was Zeppelin, but until now I had never heard of Spacemen 3 (how? my second favorite band as a kid was Hawkwind?). I never heard how great Joni Mitchel was, and Archie Shepp, I thought I had never heard of him before but it turns out I have songs saved to my spotify from his 2021 record (like Kim, also heard because of my dad haha!)
