For some reason I used to give more attention to Thurston, probably just because he presents himself that way - but Lee is the real icon.

It's interesting to see their work now that they are solo artists and what they each brought to the band. Personally I prefer Lee's albums over Thurston's but I like the both.

All of them are icons. Without thurston’s guitar playing SY would sound like a complete different band. Both are two of the most original guitarists in the history of rock music. They completed each other.

Much as I love Thurston, Lee has always been my favorite SY guy. Cracks me up to see him buying No New York. I'd figure everyone in the band has heard it a million times, but then, it doesn't really get old.

Buying it for the third I think he says - it keeps wearing out or getting stolen - Hell I only heard about it for the first time last week in an old copy of _Uncut_ - and I wanted it! But being in New Zealand does add difficulty - by the way Flying Nun is still going strong!! flyingout.co.nz/ and flyingout.co.nz/collections/flying-nun-records

Lee has GREAT taste in music ! but how could i be surprised considering he is a member of the great Sonic Youth ! :-))
No New York still blows my mind, and I've had my copy for 40 years now !!
I had the pleasure of being stuck in a Post Office line with Lee many years ago when I lived in NYC and got to talk with him for about 15 minutes or so about music and touring. This was when the WTC was still standing (I worked in Building 5) and Sonic Youth had their studio not too far away (Thurston also stopped in my store but I didn't get to talk to him other than to thank him for coming in). Pretty nice guy; I miss that band.

Such a beautiful song.
I had the oportunity to meet him when he came with Sonic Youth in lima in that moment he was with Kim Gordon in front of the Westlin Hostel mainentrace he signed my ticket of the concert and then he said me I saw your magazine in the middle of the concert cuz I was with the fanzine of my best frined Grate person , Grate artist too !!
I have seen Sonic Youth I guess 6 times playing in Vera Groningen. I was a stage builder in Vera Groningen and we were often allowed to talk to artists upstairs. A friend and I were sitting at the table with Lee Renaldo and Thurston Moore once and Lee asked me what I had in my bag. It was an LP from The Wipers.
I remember walking into Parrot Records in Colchester, England, and my mate Nigel saying you have got to listen to this as he thrust No New York into my hands. I still have my imported copy I bought that day, one of the best LPs ever.
Met him at 3rd St Jazz & Rock(R.I.P.) in Philly along with Thurson. They were there for a Goo record signing & played the Troc that night. First time i saw them. Myind blown, ears forever altered. Thurson said thanks for coming and signed the lp card/poster. Lee did too but was also smiling and nicer. He also signed the poster "Goo to you. Lee." I had that on the wall at my folks until i moved out full time ten years later. SY forever! 🤘😎
Lee is my favourite from SY. Love him.
That part where the woman stumbles into the camera shot on her way going to the comedy section was pure comedy.

@@D-77 this is the coolest comment ever. Tell them i love their music, and that i jam out to them regularly!
Lee’s comment about the people on the back of No New York looking as if they came out of an insane asylum to me summed up that era out the punk scene in general. My first encounter with punks here in Hollywood just blew my mind! They looked absolutely psycho … and threatened to cut off my long hair! But instead of detesting them I wanted to know more about them. Within months I cut my own hair off and was going to as many shows as I could. Simply because I had never seen or heard anything so different from what was “normal”. And you were instantly labeled a weirdo for admiring punk. Sign me up!
Lee is the man!
Perhaps my favorite installment of WIMB. Nice guy with excellent and eclectic tastes.

it's kinda painful to play guitar with watches on while standing - the strap jams your wrist tendons and after half an hour of playing you realise that your hand clenches in the most absurd ways, making it nearly impossible to switch chords properly/painlessly
