It is a Korean ballad and a favorite singer of Koreans. I used to listen to this song together at that time, so I still feel comforted by the past love and pain that I buried in my heart even when I get older. It's even better if I translate the lyrics. Thank you for your reaction.

Many foreigners may know this because kpop singers are popular these days, but there are a lot of great singers in Korea. I am sure that kpop has developed today because of them

Impressive reaction! Especially in your mention of Korean ballads having a close association with a negative vibe, I believe you have keenly observed intricate aspects of Korean music. Just as you mentioned, Korean ballads are often composed based on negative emotions. The root cause of these negative sentiments lies in the traditional Korean emotion known as 'Han.' Historically, Korea has faced numerous wars, resulting in emotions such as separation, the division of the nation, farewell, waiting, and resentment, all encompassed within the concept of 'Han.' This emotional essence, rooted in Korea's ancient traditional music and art, seems to have seamlessly blended with the modern genre of ballads (this is my personal perspective). Therefore, until K-pop emerged as the mainstream in Korean music today, ballads resonated well with the emotions of Koreans, playing a significant role in shaping the mainstream of Korean music.

Thank you so much! Yes this makes a lot of sense. I googled it at one point and I realised that's why I don't gravitate to a lot of the ballads.

Nice tying of "Han" to ballads. Simple & clear explanation. I'll use it in future, haha... I would add to say that most East Asian ballad culture is similar (Japan, China, Thai, etc). More rooted in negative emotions but funnily enough when we listen to them, we don't feel them as much, most of the time? Like we just casually listen to these sad-ass songs in the background or sing them in karaoke without that much thought

He is not a kpop singer, he is a pop singer just like Huh gak and Lee Seung Ki or Sohyang, John Park or K. Will or Busker Busker. Different style of music. The problem is that everyone thinks that Koreans only listen to kpop. When you get there, you find out that there are as many styles of music as in the US.

I love kim bumsoo voice. He's best known for ost. He dominated kdrama ost in early 2000. Give a listen to his osts. I bet you will love his voice. Its an honor to see Taeyeon duet with him. Their voice really match well. A beautiful heartbroken song 😅

Korean ballads and ost's are top-notch and in MY OPINION, one of the best in the world. There are so many great korean songs that many people have never heard. Fortunately, I grew up listening to them. Kim Bum Soo is one of the king of ballads in Korea. He is an amazing singer.

early 2000's were the pinnacle of sad lovd ballad and rock in korea. music charts were dominated by solo vocalists and people were all belting their hearts out in karaokes. there are almost no songs to sing or rather pour my soul out to anymore these days.. 🥲 new jeans is easy on the ears but they're not exactly vocal masterpieces.. anyhoo from the golden era of ballad rose the four legends, kim bumsoo, na ul, park hyoshin, isu, aka. the KIM-NA-PARK-YI

and yes.....that last song, 보고 십다, is either the #1 or #2 most famous/popular korean ballad of all time bar none. If you search Fantastic Duo Missing You (Fantastic Duo was a competition show where professional singers teamed up with everyday folk and competed), that performance is pretty legendary

FYI, in 2013, Kim Bum Soo invited Taeyeon for a special appearance at his concert where they performed his icon song, "Man and Woman." He is Taeyeon's ideal type when it comes to singing. Also, in Korea, there are 4 vocal kings who are collectively called “Kim Na Park Lee” (김나박이), taking the first syllable of the names of these top vocalists in alphabetical order: Kim Bum Soo, Naul, Park Hyo Shin, and Lee Soo. These four artists are often put forth by the public in Korea as the best and most representative vocalists in the country. And Taeyeon worked with 3 of them and was praised by them a lot

between KBS and Buzz......there probably isn't a single korean male left who isn't a fan. Fun fact.....in the olden days of korean entertainment, they had this super bad practice of what were called paper bag singers (basically people who were incredible singers but not good looking) that they used as the backup vocals for the pretty people to lip sync to. He was one of those but basically broke through just from his voice alone
