Killzone 3 is a 2011 first-person shooter video game for the PlayStation 3, developed by Guerrilla Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. It is the fourth installment in the Killzone series, the first game in the series to be presented in stereoscopic 3D, and the first to include motion controls using the PlayStation Move.
In the climax of Killzone 2, Emperor Scolar Visari is assassinated by ISA forces, triggering a full-scale attack by the Helghan First Army. Overwhelmed, ISA commanders order a full withdrawal, leaving hundreds of their own soldiers to die on Helghan. With the Helghast now driven to seek revenge for Visari's death, the survivors must join forces to find a way home.

    I'm surprised they've never made a game from the Helghast's point of view, they get the shitty end of the stick throughout the whole lore, and are infinetely more interesting than playing as a bunch of cliched Space Americans for the billionth time.

    The two different Helghan antagonists’ struggle for seizing power and fighting each other seems more interesting than the genetic goodie-do guys ISA story. Bald Stalin (Ray Winstone) vs. Malcolm McDowell. I mean, how possibly can it be more awesome than watching two legendary British actors becoming space nazis and going against each other?

    @@mortified0 yes, in the lore, the Helghast basically got the short draw from everybody at the beginning, and when they finally found some valuable resource, the ISA deliberately being assholes to them. Basically Helghast was pushed into a corner that they finally had enough and start to attack ISA, but instead end up looking like the bad guys. At least in Killzone 4, you can also do missions for the Helghast faction and also the ISA finally turns out to be the real assholes, especially with the Epilogue Mission.

    My problem with Killzone 3 as mentioned by the reviewer is a lack of polish in certain areas. Just look at the releases dates of their games. Killzone 3 clearly had less development time. Like for example the level layout. There were countless times when I was shot completely out of nowhere and couldn't hide due to lack of cover. Or the incoherent mess of a story. Killzone 2 isn't exactly a masterclass of writing, but I personally felt way more engaged with the main characters than in Killzone 3. In my opinion, while Killzone 3 was improved in many areas, in some aspects it stumbles way harder than 2. The overall game flow feels weaker to me. P.S. Shotgun pistol is one of my favourite weapons in all of the games I have played.

  • @Ghost_Of_SAS

    @Ghost_Of_SAS

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@ivanrzhanoy9389 Well one could argue that Killzone 3 took less time because they already had the engine and assets ready and they simply had to make more of the same. As for the level design leading to frustration, it's been a lifetime since I played either game (thanks obsolete console exclusivity!) but I have vivid memories of struggling a lot on KZ2 on Elite difficulty, while I remember breezing through KZ3 on the same setting, but then again I went back and read my reviews for both games that I wrote back then and my complaints with KZ3 were as follows: "Too many on-rails sections based on trial and error - a few AI blunders - occasional out of sync audio during cutscenes - campaign is too easy - long loading times " ...so I always found the game too easy, apparently.

    Killzone 3 is not just Killzone 2 but with issues fixed. In fact I think it actually retains some of the originals issues (restrictive level design, relying on AI teammates), but it also introduces a host of problems of it's own: - a bunch of new ideas, none of which are fully developed and suffer from the restrictive level design - reliance on set pieces instead of... well, good level design - a story that has no rhyme or reason - way, way worse multiplayer than Killzone 2 Killzone 3 is, if anything, unfocused.

    I think I know why Helghans are interesting (beside the look and design). Through whole Killzone series we see everything mostly from ISA perspective. Also ISA is basically USA in this universe so most people know what is going on here. However we don't know much about Helghans and what is going on behind the scene (till Killzone 3). Also it looks like they are based on totalitarian regime like USSR (leader died so high ranked members start fight for power). This is something that people don't know much and don't see very often.

    Natko appears in Killzone 3 as the second-player character in the split-screen co-op campaign. In the Jungle mission in co-op Natko is referred to as "Sergeant Natko", a promotion from his previous rank of Corporal. He is not apparent in any cutscenes in either single player or co-op, and is only mentioned during co-op gameplay when needing medical assistance.

    Generally, i agree with most of the criticisms, however, K3 easily has the best controls of the series which, coming from playing PC shooters, is a major plus. Still though, i'd be a happy sonny jim if Sony made a remaster of the whole series. One can dream

    I'm still a big fan of KZ3. Easily one of my most played shooters to date. I actually got KZ2 around a month before KZ3 came out so i could be clued in on the story, and got right to the sequel was pretty fun. I look forward to it one day coming to PC. Or a good emulator with all the DLC at least xD.

    I think a lot of this game's flaws stem from a desire to compete with CODs gameplay, when really they should have stuck to their guns and made their own game. It is beautiful though and after watching this review I think I'll give it another blast through. Glad to see you giving this series some love dude.

I don't think I ever used the PS move for any other game and it has collected dust ever since. I should probably try this game with the normal controllers because I don't think I actually ever did that

    I think Killzone 3 actually improved Rico's character in a lot of ways. While I won't deny that the events of the game were directly his fault, there were a few scenes where he realized it and decided to make up for it. For example, when Jammer sent out an SOS, Rico was the first one to come to her rescue. He not only saved her, but several other ISA soldiers, and even became their leader. Rico later rescued Sev and Narville from being executed by Stahl, and helped destroy the giant petrusite tower that trapped their whole battalion. So what I'm basically saying is, I really think Rico's a better character than most people give him credit for. It's just in KZ2 where he was horrible.

    I kinda like how, Brothers in Arms Hell's Highway did "health", instead of having health you have a suppression effect that gets worse until you take a hit and die, it works like regen health in that it builds up and gets worse while under fire and goes away in cover, but also varies depending on the situation, ie if you're running from cover to cover under fire from more distant enemies you may get hit after 5-10 seconds in the open, but if you walk into a room and an enemy fires from like 4 feet away, you're dead almost instantly cause they hit you in 1 or 2 shots, I actually turn the "effect" off so I have less of an idea when I'll get hit, for mah imershun XD
