KILLDOZER: How a Man Made His Own Tank | Tales From the Bottle

Ойын-сауық

'Tales From the Bottle' tells the tale of the KILLDOZER, the man who made it, and the why, the what and the how.
"Marvin John Heemeyer (October 28, 1951 - June 4, 2004) was an American welder and an automobile muffler repair shop owner most known for his rampage with a modified bulldozer. Outraged over zoning disputes, he armored a Komatsu D355A bulldozer with layers of steel and concrete and used it on June 4, 2004 to demolish the town hall, the former mayor's house, and other buildings in Granby, Colorado. The rampage ended when the bulldozer got stuck in the basement of a Gambles store he was in the process of destroying. Heemeyer then killed himself with a handgun.
Heemeyer had been feuding with Granby officials, particularly over fines for violating city ordinances and a zoning dispute regarding a concrete batch plant constructed opposite his muffler shop"

There was no way for the vehicle to go the distance. To be honest it went beyond what anyone should have expected of it. It had armor sealing the radiator (it needed to be or that'd have been the focus of their attacks) As noted this was the fate of many tanks because even with proper lines and piping sealing a system like this means you need a long list of redundancies that would have required another year or two to engineer in this thing and I suppose rage can only fuel a project so long when the lights are about to go out and its cold at night alone in your shop.... I wish I could have given the man a hug to be honest.

The one thing he had to do to get the local authorities off his back was to install a septic tank or get hooked up to the sewer. I was only 6 years old at the time this happened. it was probably my last day of kindergarten to be exact when this happened. I've NEVER EVER heard a thing about this incident, nor have I seen any news coverage or recollection of anything to do with it until an older childhood friend mentioned this a while ago when I saw him at the grocery store in 2020, and I recently just thought about it here in 2022 for whatever reason... To start with, I am absolutely blown away that I have never heard of this incident before now.. second of all, as a welder, I am fascinated with the craftsmanship of the dozer itself.. So much preparation, thought, and work went into this... I just can't get over why this incident isn't more known about these days.. like considering the circumstances and everything going on, wow this is cool in a sick twisted kind of way...

perfect? he's dead. perfect would have been being vindicated for the crap that town put him through, and he lived happily ever after. Unfortunately, this story ends with this guy taking his own life while being villified by those who wronged him. The dozer wrecked a town, and that was entertaining for everyone else. Did it bring any accountability? Does this man have a memorial and an apology? no.

@@whitesquirrel4131Those are some surprisingly true, but harsh words! Though, from what it seems like, his revenge didn't last stop there.. Even after his death, people still talk about his story to this day.. (I guess that's all that really matters huh?) Before I go, I'd like to point out something.. 7 million dollars in damage isn't much money as compared to an international company, so sadly, the impact this guy made really wasn't that significant.. But in the end, he got what he wanted didn't he? He took his anger out on those who wronged him, regardlessly of how greedy they were, and in the process of doing so, he quite literally "knocked" them down a peg or two.
