That wood grain looks amazing. A lot of stuff happening in this video, I would worry about owning a guitar that fancy. I'm sure it costs as much as a nice car.
1:10 Okay, wow! Very nice woods, very beautiful figuring on the front. Maybe a bit dull without any color, but so far very nice. 2:20 Umm, black back? Okay, there goes the beautiful back. But maybe I can live with this. 3:05 Yass! That little cyan edge is beautiful. 3:30 Okay, careful with that! You don't want to go too far. 4:10 What?! NOOO! 4:26 STAHP! STAHP! 5:20 Pls kill me

They probably sold this guitar for $2500-$3000, so you're opinion doesn't matter at that point. They make some of the best guitars you can buy.

Would have looked way better without the green color
without the green I like it better
I have 8 Carvins now and the finish quality is superb on all of them. It's nice to see a clean, well organized shop as well. The latest 2 are CS6's, I'm picky as hell & they are superb. Gibson can't build an instrument this nice.
the green messed it up :(

That used to be a sweet guitar until the children had input on the color! Carvin makes great stuff! The people placing orders for these colors do beautiful wood an injustice......

Watching then paint it black was unbearable.
This is the one I've been wanting to see. All the other vids in this series were great too, but this is the one I've waiting for. Thank you Tone King, and Thanks to Carvin too for doing these vids. Looking forward to the next one, and the eventual big reveal when it gets shipped to you and you open the case for the first time and plug that bad boy in!!!
Awesome as always! Can't wait for the next installment! The frustration of wait!
Congratulations! You just took a beautiful guitar and made it look like a Black backed Fish!
Awesome to see the whole proces!
I loved the wood finish!!!!!
Okay, everyone, lay off with the comments about the colours that were selected, as this is a custom model that reflects the client's desires. The important thing is the techniques they shared with us, not the colours themselves. So thanks for sharing this info with us, Jeff. Much appreciated!
Wow this guitar looks awesome!
Very cool. I like seeing how them burst are painted
Looking great!
love the color choice
That was amazing !
I already love the finish at 2.17!!!
incredible, thank you!
Thanks for the update man.
Excellent Team with tremendous skills! HUGE credit should be given to them, for their hard work in creating the failure that this customer from The Blind Institute actually wanted - when 8-10 coats of clear would have made this musical furniture shine.
Awesome!
when it was getting the blue tan arround the sides i was like daaaamn that guitar looks sick and then the green got in i was like YOU FKING RUINED IT

MrWeThePeople23 100% agreed. I like the way it looked before ANY paint.
I have a green Carvin Icon 5 with a quilted top. Excellent craftsmanship and finish. But I did have to send it back to have some finish repair when I first got it. Looked like the buffer bit it hard in a couple areas and created divots in the finish. Carvin fixed it up for me without any issues. Looks amazing!!
Great Process
Felt in love with painter eyes look
Louis, great series. Thank you. Get the babies room ready cause she's coming home soon to a proud Pappa! Cigars for everyone!
To seal and protect it.
Thanks TTK, these vids are really interesting & informative.
I love watching paint now! :D
awesome. i dig the paint job.
I also chose the black body and neck finish on my CT6. Beautiful blue quilt. With the black hardware it looks stunning. It plays like a dream. Overall, best guitars ever...and worst hard shell cases ever.
Oh, I see. I agree that it would have looked nice with just a clear finish.
cool video! thanks
I think the dragon-burst is a really nice burst that's a needed change from all the sunbursts out there now. My problem is the black paint. Should've left the back un-painted for sure.

@@TheEchelon That's blue and turquoise man. The green is very faint and sky blue is technically in between. Get your eyes checked my dude.
fantastic guitars - built with love like Siggi Braun Guitars!
Everyone ragging on the color and here I am thinking it's pretty gorgeous
He could have saved this. All he had to do was leave the back of the guitar as it was without the black, lightly apply the colors, finally blending them together to blend to the color of the wood, there was no need for a second coat. Blending is everything. He just put two distinct colors together, without recognizing how to go about it. But that’s okay man 👌 you still gave a great demonstration of how you painted the guitar.
That must be an Iwata gun... that fan is gnarly!
I agree. The back side with the big maple stripe in the middle didn't need to be blacked out.
Looking great TK. I had to break out my Dragon Burst Dc400 after watching this. Its so cool to see the steps to the Dragon Burst. I didnt know they used the black stain first.. Its getting close TK!
that doesn't look like a dragon at all! Looks more like a guitar shaped island lol
I like how the top looked like with the deep stain only...it looked cool as is.
I can't ferkin wait for my DC727 to arrive, the claro walnut calls to meeeeeeee!
Finaly the video of that series we have been waiting for...Wy it took so much for this guitar to get painted?
REALLY liked the trans blue / primer combo right before they added the green. Reminded me of Rickenbacker's Fireglo colour. Do they offer that as a standard colour choice?
That paint job looks like a lot of work.
Cool
Hard to see the natural back get painted black but black will look great too. You know the guitar is solid wood with no filler or knot repairs.
I like the Blue .
Confirmed master
I could watch guitars being made all day long.
I seen those colors before...the inside of a septic tank. Wait! What?
Excellent job. The haters in these comments .. I mean I dig the guitar.. Same thing with Red and Purple might look cool. or Yellow and green.. light blue and deep blue.. who knows.. I love it. Nice work.
Blue-green colour blindness is common in men. I think the difficulty in distinguishing blue and green explains the existence of this finish option.
It looked FAR better with just the primer and sealer on it!! Nice tiger striping! Hated that colour combination finish, but then it's not for me! Everyone to their own personal taste, whatever floats your boat! Even if it sucks ass so bad!
what kind of clear primer does he uses b4 the painting?
Pretty!! (:
That is one sweet mustache.
She's a beauty Louis .
I notice the back part of the neck where it's glue to the body ( 15 to 21 fret) it is sanded down for fast action, excellent idea especially for small hands. Question; do you recommend that for a Epiphone LP ? Thank you.
I'm quite curious about what paint that is exactly. Based on the timeline, I'm assuming it's not nitro. Is it a polyurethane?
@renecontreras6188
10 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it is urethane, almost nobody uses lacquer on guitars anymore (exept Gibson and some Fenders) and it is almost impossible to get a spray permit for lacquer in California.
@BradAngove

From what I've been made understand Fender never has used lacquer on their Factory built guitars
i wouldnt paint the back black but anyways.. im seriously thinking making a 7 string carvin. Awesome vid Toneking !
When you state "primer" are you descibing a sander/sealer? Thanks for sharing!

Well yeah I know that, the point in my question was that the wood top looked really great before any paint, but just the same, the end result came out really nice.
Beautiful work!!! What tip and what brand of spray gun are you using for the polyester clear? Sata gun with 3m cup system or 3m spray gun? Hard to see in the video
That was awesome.....beautiful technique...then you added that uh... green. I would refuse a request for that color combo just to protect my reputation.
Those guitars are beautiful. I don’t own one yet but anything I would consider to purchase in the future I now hold up to kiesel standards. Everything else I used to love just looks and seems dull to me now.
i agree with Micheal Lewis. as great as that back looked before the black I personally would have kept it taht way but I am a sucker for natural wood look so you can see all the grain.
nice
Is it possible to get the dragon burst finish WITHOUT the green? Just a normal center?
Why use different beautiful woods for the throughneck if everything gets overpainted in the end?
He explained in his last live cast. Carvin has been busy.
How do they get the top of the body to look like that? With the lines and such. PRS loves that design too
better without the green
this in a 7 string is what i want!
I have a 6-string Carvin LB76 (w/ HipShot on B-string/piezo pickups in the saddles) with quilted front and back featuring a Tiger's Eye finish plus a Bird's Eye maple neck. She's a beauty. Not a fan of the Dragon Finish on this video, must admit.
They use a dark stain like that on all the deep color translucent finishes. On the other translucent colors it is optional (The DTS option).
Ive never had a problem with any ibanez frets. about fender sticky necks, that stickiness is mostly on new guitars before the paint in the neck is worn. whether a carvin neck is accesible, fast, and easy to play on is all up to you. carvin has many models and styles, some have satin, some have glossy necks, some have cutaways, some dont have cutaways, some have xj frets, some have j frets, some are nech thru, some are bolt on. theres variety at carvin.
What type of paint are you using. Oil base or acrylic or...? And what type of clear coat is it?
Painting that back black made all the work & beauty of the wood disappear.. The blue burst IMO doesn't show the figure of the top as well as maybe a trans amber would have.. Still a great looking guitar for the Tone King..
Hi! I have a question. How long does it take to do the whole process?
Keep it caliburst 🤘
Does anyone know what's the moisture used at the very beginning of the video? It looks water-based since the cloth doesn't get stuck to the wood, but I have no idea. Is it used to seal the pores of the wood? What brand offers it?
@PikkaBird
8 жыл бұрын
+matias suarez porto Look for "sanding sealer". You can get rub-on or spray-on varieties.
Didn't like the finish colors at first but it's growing on me :)
Hi, what type of fluid you use to mixed the colors to spry it?
BigD I have to agree. Should have just left it blue with natural center. Maybe even left the back & neck natural also.
