Hi, I’m a CKD patient for 11 years and I don’t eat beef burgers and I do believe it slows down the progression of my CKD.

It doesn’t. Doing an alkaline very low protein diet does 😊 this is normal in other countries for treated kidney patients to bring back kidney function. However, this is not being used in the US 🤨

Tomatoes, tom juice and passata are high in potassium, I heard Oranges and mandarins are ok, as long as they are small, many websites have differnt lists so it is very confusing, I just started my low potassium died and everything says "eat this, and don't eat that" but look somewhere else and some of the don'ts are in the "do's".. I will have to get a dietitian I think.

@@ZeliardFTW Good luck. My client only got a print out. When asked for more help on meal planning with recipes for dialysis, they said dialysis cookbooks. They are mostly before dialysis and have bad items, multiple servings. On top, they keep getting items crossed off the can eat list. It's a nightmare.

It's not. She lost me when she mentioned beef. I stopped listening to her. If thats what they're teaching young renal dieticians nowadays, they should get their money back from the institute. Beef is high in Potassium, as is chicken (not as much as beef) and fish. This chick is trashed.

When I drain my potatoes after a few mins cooking I use boiling water the second time. Am I wrong? You hvd used cold water?
What if you have high blood pressure and diabetic and stage 3 cfd
where is the potassium has gone ? does it analysed in the drained water?
Contradics what my Dr. said……
I was told tomato based are not recommended. Jus saying. Looks delish though
Nice tips. Thank you. We need more of these. But a quick question, Aren't sweet potatoes kidney friendly food?

Its more important to not give him SUGAR, STARCHY FOODS, GRAINS or SEED OILS. This includes but is not limited to, Bread, Pasta, Crackers, Oranges, Banana, Watermelon, Potatoes, Canola, Honey, Rapeseed, Sunflower oil, refined Olive Oil (labeled just light, pure or plain Olive Oil), Oats (all grains are bad). No processed foods or fast-food. Because we have gone past a threshold we are now left at a point where we need to limit Fruits and sugar laden "natural" foods. Breakfast is 4 WHOLE EGGS done any style in real butter or REAL Extra Virgin Olive Oil (like Cobram brand) and an avocado (chop it up and add a dash of real Himalayan salt) or pepper. This is approximately 500 nutritious calories. This is only a general guideline but a person needs around 2000 calories per day but this depends on activity etc. If your dad is at a early 1, 2 or 3 CKD stage you must cut out all sugar. Stage 4 and 5 have different requirements but still Sugar must be cut out at all costs. It is what has caused the issue in the first place. Unless he has a genuine autoimmune condition. It would be wise to invest in a Blood Sugar Monitor and do a test in the morning, and 2 hours after meals. Safe levels in the morning are generally 6 mmol/l, 108 mg/dl and this after a meal. Your dads will likely not be this unless hes taking a blood sugar lowering med. Dont worry it can get to this point without meds, it takes time and research. I would suggest having 3 complete meals a day and not snacking or if he does want to snack eat the snacks with the meals. A hand full of Walnuts is an example of a snack even with the antinutrients it possesses. I dont know what medications they have your dad on but these will also have to taken into considerarion. Statins, Diuretics, Insulin, Blood Pressure Tablets, . This will complicate things because you need to monitor certain things like blood sugar, blood pressure. The doctor will be monitoring GFR. kzread.info/dron/mKsQWqGmDPIWgrVqGYbc3w.html kzread.info kzread.info I would read the Keto things suggested and maybe Carnivore diet only. But at this stage Healthy Keto-like is fine.

Every one has different rules it seems. I haven't heard anything about "twice a month".
Hamburger s
Potassium is K+. K has a different designation for a group of 2 nutrients which are vitamin K1 and K2. Theres eating once a day, and eating the same dishes consisting of low potassium foods. The problem with these low potassium diets is theyre also high fruit sugar and this some would say is worse for kidneys, and that is true. Do not eat potatoes at all. They are high in starch and high glycemic. Instead eat Lettuce or Cabbage seasoned with extra virgin olive oil, pepper, dash of salt or butter but not both. 2000mg daily defines a low potassium diet. Customise on this or even 1500mg. Just google the potassium levels for different LOW SUGAR and LOW POTASSIUM foods. Dont assume meat is low potassium, lots of meat are extremely nutritious so they have high potassium levels.
Watch the Japanese guy! He says kidney failure even people on dialysis has been cured in Japan with a diet of brown rice, vegetables and fruits, ckd down to 4.2 then even further to 1.2 or whatever, don't know if I have kidney disease but, gonna try eating this way for a while, definitely no hamburgers, or red meat.

5 years ago my kidney function was down to 9% and doc said dialysis was inevitable. I started eating primarily brown and white rice, low potassium veggies and fruits, avoiding all meats/dairy as much as possible. My kidney function has stayed between 15-19% over the last five years--no dialysis yet. (The messages are always so confusing when it comes to online dieticians/videos--"Don't eat meat. Avoid high potassium foods"--here are some great kidney friendly recipes including burgers, steak and spare ribs...
