First: It is not necessary to remove the disc or caliper to replace a strut. Second: It is very important to support the axel with a jack to prevent popping your CV joint and requiring an axel replacement.

If you going to remove the caliper DO NOT let the caliper hang by the brake line it will break and crack the line! Hang the caliper by a piece of wire or prop it up somewhere.

Those calipers don’t weigh all too much. Yes for the heavy ones I do hold them up with a holder.

On the 2013 Soul there is only one nut at the top in the center to dismount the strut and you may have to disconnect the wiper motor and metal plate underneath. Otherwise exactly the same.

was the car making a creaking sound before you changed it? What were the sounds or symptoms causing you to change it?

After my daughter caught a curve with right front tire, alignment was completely thrown off. Bent tie rod end and was told that the right strut is also bent. The shop was able to realign the front, but camber is still visually quite off. Two part question here; 1) would you suggest an "Easy strut assembly" 2) Should I replace both sides of the struts and tie rod ends? 2010 Kia w/124,000 miles.

Great, keep up the good work! I'm interested in how the bearing comes to the head of the shock absorber to mount the risers on the front (I have to replace the fastening screws to include the riser as well) Thank you!

Doing just the strut is just fine if you have the equipment to disassemble the strut assembly. But if your a DIYer its way easier to just purchase the full strut assembly and skip that disassembly process.

Was it necessary to remove the brake caliper in order to remove the strut assembly or you just did that because you had to resurface the rotors? I’ve done many car but never had to remove the rotors/caliper to remove the struts.

You don’t have to remove it. Like you said I removed it because I was doing brakes at the same time

appreciate the video, man. How would I separate the strut from the spring/suspension cover and the top housing without that compression machine? Just kind of prop it up and have someone put force on it?

  • @briang804

    @briang804

You have to have a spring compressor. You have to think a car is sitting on that suspension. Would be very hard to compress a strut by hand.

had bobble type noise ever since top strut mounts and bearing plate install on my 2011 kia soul at dealership. they claim everything is fine but every single dip in the road causes this low bobble noise like a rubber something moving around.....i think the parts are not seated right or defective....saw metal pieces in top mounts today so something is definitely rubbing when going over bumps

Same thing with this one. They took the vehicle to Kia but Kia didn’t want to do anything about it. They said it is normal for 60k miles. My question to them was, does a brand new vehicle make these noises.

After replacing front strut assembly do you need to have wheel alignment?

It doesn’t move freely like other cars when you disconnect the strut just up and down so your camber won’t be affected or so I was told an I didn’t get an alignment after mine just before, when I got new tires

  • @irisbaez1972

NO. you can do a lot of things without the need for alignment. Only when you remove the tie rod and even so if you do it carefully you won't have to. Do it when replacing the tie rod.

  • @briang804

You typically have to remove a strut to determine if the strut top is bent but you can also compare one side to the other.

In my opinion: Wouldn't waist time rebuilding struts & go with a complete unit. You pay more, but you don't get squeaks from reused preset expended parts that seem good. Also worth mentioning, Kia has the worst suspension springs making for bouncy rides past 55 MPH. Best to get springs made from a reputable vendor that uses American made springs if possible. Korean steel does the job, but is nowhere on par with American manufacturing standards. You'd want the best replacement parts for any Kia being OEM is so terrible.

Why would you go through all of that and replace Everything but the $15.00 old worn out shock boot that has holes in it WTF if that was my car and I paid big money for this strut replacement and I saw the same OLD WORN OUT BOOT you'd be doing this job all over again ! DO IT RIGHT !
