We hired a 2019 one of these, not sure of engine size, it was an auto, we did a 3h and 30m journey there and same back. We are both nearly slimish size 6 footers, age in 50s. The car looked great, white and black with yellow bits around front bottom lights. Very comfortable, sound system great, drove lovely and firm. Great little car, to my surprise I loved it, I was the passenger, the driver also loved it with heated stearingwheel and seats and well as easy driving..

Got the turbo version, is nippy in that it has a lot off torque for the cc of the engine and that torque comes in low down the rev range. Since placing 3000 miles on engine the engine has become more responsive and nippier.

Looking here in Oz for a future tiny X Line very slightly elevated version to allow shopping in our concrete infested shopping malls & centre carparks & want avoid all that 'road furniture'. Our other powerful large car has ultra low profile tyres and they're notoriously unsuited to curbs. ps. in over sixty years driving (& flying ) I've never dented or otherwise inflicted anything on any car (or plane).

Great review. The top spec Picanto (GT Manual 1.0T-3-cyl) we get in OZ misses out on the sunroof and heated seats; instead just 3 large blanked off bits of plastic ahead of the gearshift. Gutted..Strange fact..in some Asian markets, they get seat cooling just for the driver (dedicated single button) and normal heated for both and steering wheel.

Just had a gt line 1.25 as a rental car, after stepping out of my Alfa (which predictably is currently broken) it felt very hard to control. I don’t understand why reviewers never talk about how cars actually feel to drive, if I hadn’t actually driven it I’d have no idea from this video that the pedals all have about 1 inch of travel, the gears are super super short, and the gearstick has all the positive feeling of stirring 2 marbles around the bottom of a bowl full of water with a paint brush. You sit very high, the steering is dangerously light, and it’s just very hard to control. The combo of short gears and that engine means in 1st and 2nd up to about 35mph this car is fast but in a really weird, disconcerting way, and with the twitchy light steering and stabby brake pedal it just feels ridiculous. Maybe all little hatchbacks feel like this, but if anyone who thinks this thing drives we’ll ever gets in a real car you won’t even be able to turn the wheel, push the pedals, or move the gearstick. After 24 hours with the Picanto I got back into my car and it felt like it had no power steering in comparison XD

Why do these reviewers always slate the auto gearbox? This 4 speed has ideally placed ratios that perfectly match the cars performance? Plenty of grunt and smooth changes it's the best auto in any small car. Who in their right mind would buy a city car with a manual gearbox these days- it makes driving so easy and you can concentrate on what's going on around you. it's NOT as uneconomical as they say if you know how to drive an auto and don't drive flat out every where and ring every last ounce of power out of it like these testers always do. If you're buying second hand would you really trust buying a thrashed manual or a self shifter that can't be over-revved?

I have seen 28.5 mpg on the display in a review car!!! A far cry from the 48 mpg of the official figure which is clearly nonsense. I can get it up to 35 mpg if I drive very carefully. Nearly all the reviews are on the unloved GT/Line which have plastic seats and 16" low profile tyres which ruin the ride. Get the 3. The reviewer does not know that the number of gears does not change the top gear MPH/1000 rpm. Both auto and manual are about 21 MPH/1000 rpm which is normal for most cars under 2 litres. Very few cars have overdrive ratios due to torque considerations.

James is taking nonsense most of the time. The glove box is huge! A tall person (6'3") can easily sit without touching the roof. The 16" wheels give an attrocious ride and the 15" wheels are jostly. The 14" alloys only come in 2 spec. The mph per 1k revs is the same in top on the manual and the auto, so number of gears is irrelevant. The 3 spec is the one to go for with an auto box.
