I just this week took delivery of a 2023 Niro EV Wave loaded to the max! It was sitting inside the showroom for over 180 days; leased it for less than the 2024 (same vehicle) and much less than what I was leasing from Hyundai (2022 Kona Limited). Love it so far. Will have my Level 2 home charger installed in a couple of weeks. Public chargers within a 20-minute drive from my house. Best part. My U.S. State of NJ has a program where they will rebate both the charger and the professional installation. Plus, as a lease, I get the full U.S. Federal tax credit. I saved over $9,000 U.S. off my vehicle and it was indoors since it arrived at the dealership. It's Snow White Pearl (yes, that's the name of the color, Prince Charming) with the grey Aero Blade and it look sharp with the gray fender and lower side panel trim.

Great to hear about the eco friendly materials in your review that go into making the Niro. It is one of the reasons that I chose the Niro (GT Line - 4 spec) over a Tesla.

You didn’t mention the head up display on the top trim, and the V2L on the two higher spec trims which allows you to run a Electric BBQ off the cars battery - 30 minutes of cooking a quick meal only uses about 5 mile of the range. The top trim has a button on the key fob which will let you drive it in and out of your garage without being in it - great with modern garages which are normally so narrow you can’t open the doors.

I think the ‘3’ with heat pump would be the one I’d go for, if I bought one. It’ll be on my first-ever EV shortlist when I upgrade in ‘26-27.

I just signed the papers, picking up a nice blue Niro EV up next week - upgrading from an Ioniq. Main reason for upgrading is the tow bar but the range and 3 phase charging isn't too bad either

Love this car, test drove one recently and knew I wanted it love the looks and interior so much. so torn though as the new Kona is out now with lots of extra tech but it's seriously ugly and has a horrific interior, not sure it's worth the sacrifice for the standard heat pump and extra electronic goodies.

Have they fixed the Scheduled Charging so that you can charge the car on off-peak cheap electricity? Kia knows about this problem yet there is no solution, they get owners to update software, uodate headunits etc. etc. yet there is still no solution. Seems an easy software fix to start and stop charging at given times, what’s so hard?

That’s odd, I schedule a charge every night. No issues. Also use Inteliugent Octopus smart charging on occasions, that all works, though it can take a few hours to plan the charge times

I like this but the "2"'s that are coming from VW (ID 2) and Hyundai (Ioniq 2) look interesting and a better value - though you will have to wait. I figure when those come out you can either buy a "2" or buy one of these other cars used for cheap since they won't be competitive (slow charging, older tech, etc). Also tried a Bolt, small, but I liked it but DCFC was awful. Topping up past 80% was a 15 kW (not the 50 kW) rate! It took 30 min to get about 25 miles of charge but needed for trip. The Niro EV also slows down charge over 80% but not as bad as the bolt. Look up "charging curve niro ev" (or whichever car). For the same case where the Bolt charged at 15 kW, the Niro would do 25 kW (18 min instead of 30).

Unfortunately the charging speed is way too slow, and the claimed 75kw max speed is only obtained in ideal circumstances, which is not often. 10 to 80% can take 60 minutes which is awful if travelling long distance. For reference, an ioniq 5 or tesla will be done in 25 mins. Heat pump should be fitted as standard.

I don't understand why car makers put the charging point at the front. What happens if you have a head on collision? Never made sense to me. I'd almost say its a deal breaker for me. Nice car apart from that.

Hey thanks for the comment, I think it’s to make it easier for charging for those that don’t have wall boxes you can drive it close to your front door and near a plug. I did find it useful it being at the front when I had it for the week. But I get your point. Thanks for sharing and chatting with us 🤗

Aside from the other answer, having the Port in the front means less wiring which equals less $ to make. You 'handy disaster' event beggars belief. So if you had a Tesla and it was hit in the driver side rear? It would be the same problem. Ditto on the sides. Please broaden your knowledge. My NIRO EV with the front Port is PERFECT for home charging, I had an EV with a Port on the back rear. Much more the nuisance.

  • @MIA-ow2js

@@harriettanthony7352 there's always one owner who takes offence 😂. You're talking about maybe an extra 1 metre of cable, not exactly a huge saving. If you look at the road accident statistics, over 60% are head on collisions due to driver error, weather conditions, etc. You're far less likely to be impacted on the side of a car, and most car manufacturers of EV's are aware of this. I'm glad to hear it suits your home charging situation but I'm merely pointing out the fact that having a front charge port would make more drivers a lot more anxious (and maybe that's a good thing). It's just not for me personally but all the best with yours.

Just swapped our Enyaq 80 Sportline for a Niro EV in 4 spec with heat pump. The Enyaq was coming up to 3 years old and (a) we didn’t need such a big car but mainly (b) our experiences with Skoda dealers and servicing were patchy and disinterested. With a three year warranty we were concerned about getting the car fixed quickly when or if it went wrong. In essence the car was beautiful to drive but did have the odd software glitch, speedo meter disappearing, info screen locking up etc. The dealer was clueless when working on the car, I knew more about what was included in the service plan and I had to find out how to sort the software out after they had half done a major software upgrade, after I contacted Skoda UK who referred me to Skoda in Germany. Would I have an Enyaq again?, yes if I needed the space and size of car but not as a private buyer. First impressions after a month of the Niro EV. Positives, the way it drives, for us the size is now ideal, decent boot and appears well put together. We love the HUD and driving the car is easy albeit not as quiet as the Enyaq was particularly during heavy rain for some reason. We have been averaging 4.5kw per mile with an GOM guess at 280 mile range driving in normal mode. Negatives, on two long runs we needed to rapid charge, from 40% SOC we only got 35kw maximum which rapidly went to 30. When we hit 80% the rate dropped to 18kw. The charging speed after 80% wasn’t an issue as we were only topping up and had more than enough range to get to where we are going. So a little disappointing. The menu system is a little complicated and it took us 3 weeks to work out how to get the heater in the cabin to work ( it’s in the climate setting and you have to press it to activate the heating element) not mentioned in the huge drivers manual. All in all though we are very satisfied with our purchase and knowing that the car has a 7 year warranty and our local dealers have a good reputation don’t have any concerns should anything go wrong.

The plastic bits on the side are their to hide the height. Lots of EV’s do this, sometimes with the sill. Because of the batteries, EV’s tend to be taller. The black part is a clever visual trick to make the car look not so tall
