many european so called "democratic countries" are in fact regimes - what voters can only do is to vote for few option of the regime. But they cannot control the regime and its leaders. They cannot control the voting and the flow of information -. Same people in the west that own politicians, they own also media and they count the votes. Its joke not democracy. These countries in europe are totalitarian in fact - especially germany uk or france. Regular people also dont control the narrative. Media are imposing their subjects and topics to discuss not people. For example they impose narrative of importance of minorities either sexual or racial while majority is neglected. We are being fed with bullshit topics and fictional problems like homosexuals or minorities whole majority suffer from these governments and overtaxation. Democracy was supposed to be about majority but not in white countries. In white countries majority whites are slaves of majorities.

In some of them he recognizes the role that Khomeini had as a key figure, outside or above the different political parties, in the emotional structuring of the revolt. But I'm telling you half-trusting in my memory, don't quote me on this. But anyway, I find it funny that Foucault is accused of praising Khomeini when there have been presidents of Western countries protecting the international expansion of Sunni Islamism and training jihadist groups.

Iran is in fact much more "progressive" than its Sunni neighbors in the Gulf, simply because Shia Islam is so. If many of the Sunni Arab countries are not under Sharia and Salafi, Wahhabi or Brotherhood-like regimes today, it is because the dictatorships inherited from secular pan-Arab regimes keep Islamists out of power through repression and falsifying elections. If it were up to the populations of North Africa and the Middle East, the entire Islamic world would be a king-sized Saudi Arabia.

I feel sorry as a French woman how women in Iran have been treated since then. And also because Iran could be in a different shape as women should not be second class citizens. I like the fact relatives of the Shah moved to France after fleeing their land showing us they were not angry at us.

​@@AA90What progressing nation? There can hardly be a progressing nation without a clear process of separation between political law and religious law. And that process has not taken place in any Islamic country. So there hardly can be any progress under 1sl4m. The efforts of the pan-Arabists were doomed to failure from the moment they did not openly break with Islam in their nation-building projects. And that breakup never happened in Iran either. It may be that in Iran there is a greater chance of the birth of a secular form of nationalism, because Shiite Islam opens a wider margin for negotiation between political/civil law and religious law. But it is not at all clear that it can really happen. And no, it was not Khomeini who stopped it from happening. The Islamic Republic of Iran is largely his personal creation outside of Islamic political and doctrinal orthodoxy - precisely because Shia allows that margin of discretion that is unthinkable in Sunni Islam. The force largely responsible for Islamic countries living in the Middle Ages is Islam itself, which is a revealed faith and therefore irreformable. But the other forces are Saudi Arabia and the United States, which for decades have worked together to destroy the only vectors of political modernization in the Islamic world, spread by the nationalist revolutions of the 1950s. Khomeini is just one more symptom of what was already happening everywhere. Americans do not despise him for being an Islamist, but for having turned Iran into a political enemy of the United States. Meanwhile, Uncle Sam has countless Islamist allies much darker than Iran and has supported or trained Sunni political and jihadist groups in numerous countries.

Pahlavi stood up to Britain so that his petrodollars could be expended improving the lives of the poor.
