I really like how you highlighted in white the territory that is speculated to be captured

It's interesting to see how the Russians are working in the west of Avdiivka area. They are careful to always secure the flanks and clean out all pockets of resistance before they move forward. The Russians are moving slowly but steady. To win a war of attrition you can't afford to stretch out the supply lines.

I think for Russia, the north of Kharkov operation was mainly to create a buffer and move Ukrainians attention away from Belgorod. Some months ago, we remember the Ukrainians doing commando raids and attacks on Russian territory south of Belgorod. In that sense, I think Russia has succeeded in moving the focus to Ukrainian territory again. But I'm a bit surprised that Ukraine put so much energy into the Lyptsi and Voltjansk areas. They have sent a lot of soldiers and equipment there to push the Russians out. Probably it's important for Ukraine to show their Western sponsors that they are able to hold the border (which apparently they are not able to). Ukraine received a lot of money from the West to secure the borders so it's of course embarrassing for them to have allowed the Russians to advance as far as they did.

my only concern is that the Russian advances west of Avdeevka don't seem to have accelerated compared to the weeks before the Kharkov front was launched. Ukraine seems to be holding the line pretty well in Donetsk.

@@arostwocents That's the problematic part. If it slows down, it gives time to the ukrainian to fortify, prepare and stabilize while more and more supplies are coming. The russian armed forces need to accelerate, not slow down, if they hope to achieve anything, assuming the window of opportunity hasn't closed already. For the time being, this "breakthrough" is not only "not enough", but tbh, simply insignificant at the scale of this war.

At the current rate and given the overall circumstances, it's very doubtly the russian armed forces could capture so much. If they don't manage to win this this year and the western powers remain committed (as they made clear they would), a russian military victory will go from possible to "hoping for a miracle".

I believe some people are seriously challenged by the concept of demilitarization and denazification. This is NOT about territory. Every day that goes by the USA and NATO are more in debt and with less resources as they can't supply enough weapons and sometime in the future there will be no ukrainians left to use them. Only when Russia deems it's either necessary or helpful to occupy some territory it will.

Bastogne (1940 population of 4,000) a large village was the center of the Battle of the Bulge (WW2) and over 60,000 soldiers on both sides died there. Population is not the issue but rather emplacements and defensive lines preventing enemy advances.

As far as I understand, Ukraine has more soldiers in the north of Kharkiv area than Russia has, so of course Ukraine will be able to keep the pressure up. No one is working with massive infantry attacks in this war. It's always small groups that are doing the assaults. 30 men is about one platoon so that's quite normal.

In the North Ukraine apparently have a 3-1 manpower advantage, remember Russia took the land with only a few thousand soldiers with something like 50K in reserve within Russian territory. The attack is likely a diversion to weaken the rest of the Ukrainian line, which it has done, the South is heavily understaffed now and the Russians are fighting to secure the Dnieper on their side of the bank, I'm guessing they'll eventually make a mad dash for the Odessa region when they've weaken Ukrainian defenses enough and have managed to cross the river en masse.

@@haydotherapper5401 They can fill the forces actually by opening drafts to younger adults. they have not done this to avoid actual youth losses, also Ukraine looses more personnel as both sides have double edge sword situations. Russia has so much troops but its suffering a major issue in loosing air defenses and drones bypassing them to hit even more air defenses or refineries that account a huge portion of the economy.

This is essentially a positional war with minimal territorial gains. Ukraine does not have the strength to regain the lost territories, and Russia does not have the strength to gain greater new territorial gains - in two years of fighting, the Russian army was unable to fully occupy even the Donbas territories annexed by Putin. At the same time, Russia needs to occupy at least the entire left-bank Ukraine and also Odessa, otherwise this war will not ensure any security for Russia and all sacrifices will be useless. Russia could easily and quickly win this war - but Putin does not want to mobilize. Instead, a kind of volunteer and paid army is being built. I understand - no one wants to be mobilized and go to war. But this way the war will continue for a very long time, ultimately there will be many more casualties among soldiers and civilians and no one can estimate the scale of further escalation.

Do you realize how big Russia is?... and now it's getting bigger. Having A/D 24/7 365 days a week all over Russia is a very tall task. Sure, the Russians have very good A/D where they actually deploy it, but protecting all their territory all the time is impossible, at least at the moment.

And yet the frontline remains overall frozen, not significant gain is made and as the russian armed forces give plenty of time to the ukrainian (not even really forcing them to trade land for time as could have been expected), the western MIC are showing the results of their ramping up to challenge (and eventually exceed) the russian production. The russian armed forces can't afford to continue at such a slow pace. They need to move and fast.

So AFU make brave attacks but can't follow through

They rely on a less aggressive way of offensive warfare, push and control and hold what can be done, if its not holdable then they just do whatever and leave because Ukraine doesn't have a unlimited amount of troops. it still has huge youth adult numbers to draft but Ukraine hasn't lowered the age much to draft everyone. drafting them will cause issues slowly. its squads to pretty much delay and damage russian progrses to push and properly areas easier.

This evening, Moscow time, Putin flies out for a visit to the DPRK, and then to Vietnam. What do you think he will agree on with them there?

At the beginning of the war, I estimated that barring any changes (wonder weapons or strategies) and provided the conflict continued as it was, Ukraine would have 20 years to fight if they received everything they needed from NATO. That means they only have about 17 years left out of the 20 I predicted at the beginning. Slowly but surely the clock is ticking for the Ukrainians and every day it's going to get worse.

It is, since all those fights are at small unit sizes. There are no mass assaults possible anymore due to drone warfare. Hence why the progress on the battlefield is so slow.

Well, given that the pro-russian channels like Dima need to zoom so far in that any pice of grass becomes relevant so as to hide the overall frozen frontline, of course it makes it a big attack ;p. And taking a street is a massive victory that will surely end the war somehow ^^.

The line is 600 miles, meaning you need 600,000 soldiers just to have 1,000 troops at each mile. Then account for the ones keeled and woonded, means yea, it's plausible.😊

Once again I notice some weird anomalies with map adjustments. Normally the presence of forces getting attacked by a drone means that force is in control of the area. But when the Russians lose a turtle to a drone you turn the whole area over to the Ukrainians when the drone was probably controlled from the western side of the canal. Makes no sense .

Obviously, different to Your claims in the title, the russian offensive stalls. Losing ground after an attack with only one vehicle, shows rather a total breakdown and not a breakthrough of any kind.
