It's an issue that started with Clinton and continues today. They used NATO as a guise for "economic" partnerships with former Eastern Bloc countries and it was nothing more than a foreign policy move to gain influence in these nations and sell them billions of dollars of US weaponry. The organization that was formed as a military response to the USSR & Eastern Bloc should have never been used for that purpose. It was completely foolish. The EU or EEC could have been used to give these nations access to the European market and bolster them economically.

Not American, do not have a say nor really care about American domestic politics, but I think Trump is a much better option than the opposition, and in his previous tenure, he was surprisingly decent with his diplomatic foreign relationship policies. Finland joined and Russia's moved the soldiers on the border to Ukraine. Not exactly the behavior if you feared invasion. Also, nukes means Russia will never be invaded. US interference in Ukraine? This is an existential war for Russia that it cannot lose? Russia's lost many wars. This was is about Russia's right to be an empire and subjugate its neighbors. NATO expansion doesn't threaten Russia but does threaten its ability to be an empire. First of all until he’s in the White House Trump is in no position to negotiate anything. He did little to improve real relations with Russia, far from it, he walked a hard line to proof he was tough. Basically he follows might is right and regards the US as the only superpower - with other words the US can always out produce any opponent and if needed beat any opponent. Of course he’s stuck in the late eighties and early nineties, without realizing that Russia is a peer nuclear superpower, even defeat Russia will take the US with it to oblivion. Today the US economy is entering a critical period, the petrodollar is under pressure, the US interest on debt is getting too high, the infrastructure is aging, education is lagging, industry is in a poor state after decades of off shoring even the Military Industrial Complex is unable to produce enough ordinance nor is it capable to replace aging systems in sufficient numbers (it can’t produce additional F-22s, the F-35 is an expensive jack of all trades, master of none). So how is Trump going to change the game without boots on the ground and once he escalates, how is he going to stop the conflict from turning into a nuclear Armageddon? He can’t. This is an existential conflict, the Russians will retaliate and f need be escalate the conflict globally.

Yes, Ukrainians wanted so bad into EU they had the Euromaidan ("Euromarket") revolution in 2014. But EU still rejected Ukraine! So humiliated by European arrogance they renamed their sad failed Euromaidan to "Revolution of Dignity" and blamed Russia for their own failures. Sad.

The taxpayer of course. Like everywhere including Russia. Most importantly they have all top tech present. All software, microelectronics, machine building. There is no decades of tech gap, just allocation of resources. Maybe labor is more costly compared to China or Russia, but all the rest is better.

As for Ukraine entering the EU, this is highly unlikely and the american expetetions are only told to keep Ukraine on their line, giving wrong hopes. All memberstates would have to agree and the USA is not a member. There are a lot of implications as for all european national budgets, law adaptions, currency policy, police cooperation and much more and Ukraine would be a receiver of funds, not a giver, means all other receivers would gain less. Moreover, Ukraine doesn't even fullfill the most basic requirements. Those publications are just medial misleading propaganda, it will not happen and it has nothing to do with NATO at all.
