Ukraine war: What is happening in Kharkiv? | BBC News
Russian forces have, in recent days, made small but significant gains right along the border in the Kharkiv region.
Their advances are only a few miles deep but have swallowed up around 100km (62 miles) of Ukrainian territory. In the more heavily defended east of Ukraine, it’s taken Russia months to achieve the same.
Russia claims its forces have now entered the border town of Vovchansk, which Ukraine disputes.
Ukraine's military chief has said its forces are doing all they can to hold the line in Kharkiv but they are facing a "difficult situation".

There were. Cause it's hard to say if something there is village or town. English has difficult time to translate it. There are деревня, село, город. While in Ukraine there is no differencies between село and деревня.

its a 1000km long front line that has to be manned, the aggressor dictates where the battle will take place and therefore has the opportunity to outnumber the enemy wherever it chooses to attack. On the other hand the defender has the opportunity to pick where it will meet the aggressor and can prepare the ground beforehand to it's advantage

From what I've read Ukraine was expecting an offensive but because Russia mobilized forces during the night and did not see them massing troops along the border they were caught of guard. So... It was a surprise offensive..

Ukraine has the choice to end this war at pretty much any point, though certainly at a steep cost of land and on highly unfavorable terms. Whether you think Ukraine should accept those terms, and whether it’s a net benefit for them to do so, is another matter entirely.

What is the Russian side of the story? That the Russian dictator has succeeded with his special operation? By now, most Russians should understand that they are NOT WELCOME in Ukraine. The people of Ukraine don't want to be slaves under Moscow. All Russian war crimes are recorded, registered and documented, and will be used against Russia when Putin is sent to the Hague for justice.

Correction to BBC 2 years ago according to the agreement guaranteed by France Germany and Belarus, Russia withdrew from occupied outskirts of karkiv and Kiev. The west chanted Russia defeated after scrapping the agreement they guaranteed.

Thanks to the supporters of this war. All Russia requested at the start of the war was independence of Donbas based on a decision of the will of its people due to the civil ongoing conflict and an agreement Ukraine would not join nato. Ukraine would not have been destroyed and they’d have a much bigger territory than what they have now and probably will lose a lot more. “Pride comes before destruction”!

Russia just launched an operation to capture Kharkiv with a tenth the number of troops it needs on the same day the Russian minister of defense was fired and you think Ukraine is going to lose? LOL Russia has thrown away their economy for this war, in a couple years Russian people are going to realize that people in the west aren't waiting in line for bread like they are. I mean Zelensky says he'll negotiate if only the Russians redraw from all the occupied territories including Crimea and that honestly doesn't seem like a reasonable starting point to a negotation in my book... Meanwhile the ukranians are the ones suffering this tragedy everyday.
