How people forget Anderson Silva's reign is really beyond me. The highlight reel ko's over and over vs very good competition AND he wasn't afraid to fight at LHW. Making very good fighters look novice. Not to mention the short notice fight after his prime vs a prime DC who wanted absolutely nothing to do with Silva's standup. Also his recent success in a totally different discipline (boxing) vs a former legitimate prize fighter. Still holds the record for most consecutive title defenses and the manner in which he did it.

It's also why people forget about GSP as well (the running away from big rig didn't do him any favors either).

@@ctc1996 I’m sorry friend if you’re gonna sit there and claim that both Dustin porier (whom I like btw) and Eddie Alvarez are better than Tony Ferguson then ur gonna need some pretty impressive points to back that argument up lol. Ferguson is a one of a kind fighter and most ppl know that. Ppl were psyching up Gaethje because he slaughtered Ferguson, and no one has done that before, so yeah, that’s is something to be impressed about. And even before that all of his fights were always competitive and thrilling to watch honestly. He did lose. But he lost in good fights and learned from them. And finally the icing on top was Gaethjes world class wrestling. Khabib is a wrestler, he had never fought anyone in the UFC who was also a decorated wrestler. That is why the hype for Gaethje was real. And his ass beating from khabib says nothing about Gaethje and everything about khabib. Gaethje didn’t lose because he isn’t good. He lost because khabib is practically indestructible. Gaethje gave him some staggeringly hard hits and khabib brushed them off like it was nothing. And then he outclassed a world class wrestler in seconds. The dude is next fucking level. I don’t I know of anyone who could beat him. But I would’ve loved to see Ferguson get that chance too.

@@bengough6772it really doesnt matter though, he retired early so it is all just speculation. It means as much as me saying “Khabib would have been the greatest gladiator alive if he was Roman”. He just didnt prove himself, especially with those dozens of wins he got in those weird two round russian mma matches against cab drivers and streetsweepers. I like Khabib but he is always going to be the biggest “what if”. And dont sleep on Chandler and Oliveira, those dudes probably have the most threatening atylistic matchups for a wrestler like khabib. Chandler never fails to keep the fight standing with his insane explosive wrestling and striking, and oliveira has proven he can submit just about anyone from anywhere. Khabib is in the conversation, but I'll take GSP's and Jon Jones resumes. Also, both Jones and GSP have moved weight classes and didn't suffer any drop in performance. He dominated every round, he is respectful and humble. Befor Khabib i always hated it when Fighters started Grappling and Submissions, but seeing him do it, was like a work of Art, just like his Punches and Kicks and now i wish for that and hope to see another artist at work. Khabib was for me the first Fighter who was perfectly balanced and was not only great in all aspects, it also looked great, from Grappling to Hand to Feet Combat, Great intuition, huge Stamina and endurance, i mean he never sat down after each round against Mcregor, he escaped a Guillotine choke just to Submission Poirier seconds after...thats crazy! I base a Champion a Goat in all their aspects, and if that person can make me start thinking after he said something wise. Thats something i never had of any ufc fighter and jones is far from it, they all lets say simple. A combination of his height and possessing one of the longest reach in UFC. Even with the same weight, he's naturally much bigger than most people he faced. Two fights short of that goal, father dies. Mother tells son she doesn't want him fighting without his father around. Son fights one last fight because he had given his word to his father he would. Then he retires because he gave his mother his word he would. Just one fight short of a goal he had been working towards for his entire career. That ladies and gentlemen, that is a MAN. Show me one MMA fighter anywhere that has that kind of reverence for others, including his God. They don't exist. No, he will not return; not unless his mother wishes it. He will not return because he is a man of his word and that word was given. He cannot be bought. Khabib is exactly what martial artists used to aspire to be.

@@batman_diaries I agree that just because someone is good in one area of their life (i.e. being a good son), it does not make them a great human being. I also agree that Manny is an amazing person, in and out of the ring. However, I disagree with the implication that Khabib is not - if that is what you were implying...I may have misunderstood you there. Khabib has done a lot for his home town, specifically helping the local kids and the schools...in fact, he and Pacman have a lot in common with their philanthropy choices. Though, I don't know how much he "has changed" Dagestan as a whole...I honestly donj't keep up with any celeb's personal life that much...I just know what I see/read. God bless bud.

I don’t think they realize though that statistically it’s a lot easier to not get cut as a lightweight than a light heavy or heavy. Your skin’s strength doesn’t change but the average power and energy of the punches and kicks do dramatically. As result not getting hurt is easier. Grappling is a lot easier when you can eat weaker shots. It’s why in heavy fighters are more hesitant to close.

Khabib only fought less than a handful of great fighters let alone only defended his title like 3 times. Jones fought bigger names multiple times and was champion in 2 divisions and for a couple of years in one of them. So this debate is too hard to answer especially now that khabib retired, if khabib comes back and fights say a GSP and wins then that goat title seems more respected. Cejudo is the greatest combat fighter if there was one from the ufc, 2x Olympic champ and then 2 division champ at the same time so it’s kinda hard to argue with that one

This is the best comment here. JJ is a trash star. Sure he accomplished a lot but nowhere near worth being considered the GOAT. The goat is more than a record. It's as much personality and earned respect as it is anything. Imagine Jordan being popped for all the shit JJ was. JJ needs to fight against his own character to convince weak minded fans that he is the best to ever do it. The real ones know what it was to watch GSP and Khabib truly own their sport and display an otherworldly level of dedication. Jon Jones was blessed with genetics and coming from a sports family and put his weight class on blast for years, no doubt. But his scumbag nature detracts from his legacy and IMO he is tarnished gold. Khabib and GSP are platinum.

It's because Jon Jones has had 16 world titles wrapped around his waist and Khabib has only had 4. Jon is still undefeated in the UFC, nobody has ever beaten him, he has only disqualified himself and had a no contest because of picograms of a steroid which Jeff novinsky said had no performance enhancing benefit and were caused by a tainted supplement that usada tested and proved that the supplement was tainted and it was consistent with what was found in Jon's body. The steroid excuse is just an excuse and a way for haters to discredit him. Jon's body of work literally dwarfs Khabib's. Khabib is not the first guy to have a 13 fight win streak in the UFC, Anderson Silva did it, GSP did it, Mighty Mouse did it, Tony Ferguson did it ect, and if you want to talk title defenses Ronda Rousey has more title defenses than Khabib, Tito Ortiz has more than Khabib, Chuck Liddell has more than Khabib, Jose Aldo has more, Matt hughes, Tyrone woodley, Renan Barao, Pat Miletich, Frank Shamrock, Amanda Nunes, all of these people have more title defenses than Khabib and at the end of the day that's really what matters, title fights because they're the highest level fight that a person can fight in the UFC.

first he has 13 ufc fights(all wins), but if you are talking about the 29 wins being impressive then you should take a look at a fighter called Dan Severn who has a record of 101-19-1. Now which is better, 29-0-0 or 101-19-1? The latter of course. However, the reason as to why Dan Severn is no way near the goat talk is because in the ufc he had 13 fights same as khabib but Dan's ufc record was 9-4-0 and never secured any belts. So yes Khabib's undefeated run is impressive but a mere 13 wins is nothing compared to gsp 13 title fight wins (26 wins overall) and jones 14 title fight wins (26 wins overall) and anderson silva 16 win streak (34 wins overall) title wins is what makes a goat in the mma world
