I actually worked at a KFC when I was freshman in HS. We usually toss away left overs, or take it home. This seems to be an issue with the franchise owner.

I did work at McDonalds for a year before KFC during my teenage years and just comparing the two, I'm actually quite surprised at, I want to say, the quality of KFC compared to McDonalds and probably other fast food joints. In terms of the food, the chicken was delivered fresh every morning, apart from Sundays. The managers I worked with always disposed of the chicken after the allocated time so he was very strict about how much we cooked. The oil in the fryers were cleaned every night and were dumped when you couldn't see the bottom of a dip that I believe was 1-2". Not a fan of fast food at all but if I were to choose between any I'd always go for the dirty bird. Not the chips, nuggets, popcorn chicken or anything else, only the fried chicken.

A minute of silence for this staff who sacrificed their job for us.

When I worked at Golden Chick, we would either throw everything away when closing or take everything home to our families depending on if our manager let us or not. The entire staff were in high school except our manager so if we horsed around too much she would tell us to throw everything away and we would try to beg her to reconsider haha. We literally had to sweep, mop, bleach, and hose the floors and clean all the appliances every single night. Whoever owned the franchise in the video didn't care to follow the proper health codes. Hopefully the store has new management now.

I worked at a kfc in 96’. We usually took home food but the leftover chicken was deboned to put in the pot pies for the next day. I was told to refill the ice bin one day and found a roach frozen so I didn’t refill the ice bin and went to do something else. The manager later asked me what happened to the ice, I whispered it’s a roach in it. She told me to scoop it out put the rest of the ice in the bin. I never put ice in my drinks again. Another incident a guy dropped a whole tray of chicken fresh out the grease. Manager told him to take it to the back to debone for the pot pies. I never ate another pot pie from there. Actually I haven’t eaten kfc in years. The last thing I’ve eaten was the hot wings and that was maybe a decade ago. I’m sure kfc is not the only place that does this.

I was just gonna say, this isn’t the only fast food place that does this crap! I remember working at Pizza Hut when I was 16 and one of the supervisors was making a pizza for a rude customer. First of all, they didn't get fired. They quit. Because they knew if their restaurant was exposed, they would be terminated. It's nice to know though. My son used to work for KFC and he said nothing like this! It has to do with management and after this exposure, their health department closed them down.

Things must've changed drastically since I ran KFC stores in the late 70's. There was Zero,...zilch reheats. All leftovers went 'chilled', to the nearest orphanage the next day. Any manager caught reheating or recycling food, was shown the door.

Don’t know about KFC, but when I worked at Taco Bell. There was never any food kept overnight and sold the next day. Clearly whoever was in charge of that store did not know how to do daily prep work. You only cook what you know you can and will sell in a 6 hour period of time.

Chicken can be repurposed if cooled properly after 3 hour sit time. If they are reselling the chicken as is after 3 hours thats not right. But chicken in general can be repurposed for other things if not sold. For example my restaurant would shred leftover unsold chicken and make it into chicken salad, and chicken salad sandwiches. We would also repurpose chicken and shred to make chicken gravy over mashed potatoes. Theres ways to save that chicken and not let it go to waste if done the right way.

I asked my brother( a former manager for 11 stores in Southern California)about this video and he simply said “absolutely ridiculous the restaurants wouldn’t survive a day “

I worked at a Gino's restaurant in high school. Back then things were more honest. Every night they threw trays of chicken away because the expiration was 4 hours and they had to estimate their sales for the evening. I admittedly did take some home for my family, but the rest was never sold and thrown away.

I used to work at kfc , and let me tell y’all this , the kfc I worked at , completely focused in sanitation and cleaning and the freshest of food. We also took left overs home after a day of work , or it all gets thrown away. It just depends in management :)

@@RK-cj4oc I worked at kfc between 2011-2014 and it definitely has to do with management. the kfc I worked at that tons of quality control and we would have to sanitize everything, every 1-2 hours and change out the food no more than 2 hrs later to maintain freshness. They were definitely a lot cleaner than most other restaurants back in the time. Idk how it is now though.

It is very true. When I was 18 I worked at KFC and I quit one cause of bad management and two because they expected me to serve chicken regardless of if it was bad or not... There was alot of bad chicken because the cooler never stayed cold and the final straw was when I was told it's ok to serve chicken even if it was dropped on the floor.. the nasty ass chicken juice and grease covered floor. Don't eat at KFC and surely don't eat at any in the lake county area

I worked at Kfc for years even promoted to manager and we NEVER DID that, every franchise is different I guess. I'd get so mad cuz we dumped so much food at the end of the night. I started just handing out tons of free food the last 30 min of the night with peopled orders to get rid of the food we would throw away

It's making me livid that people are saying that they'll never go to KFC because of this. This is one poorly run location, and these people would apparently rather blame the company that's paying them then fix the damn problem. Sickening on two levels.

I worked there back in the mid 90`s, we never kept that shit like that. Only thing we kept was leftover chicken to de-bone for the pot pies the following day. Anything that was put a container was thrown out or we took home. Plus the chicken that was fried, was never just left in the warmer, it was thrown out after a couple hours. Must be new shit.

The Colonel must be rolling in his grave. He even sued KFC back in the 1970's for not living up to his standards.

Looks more like a poor reflection of staff and management, not the franchise itself.

This is a special case for sure. I use to work at a KFC and old food was constantly tossed out. You need to report this store to a health inspector other wise you're just as guilty for continuing this action.

Why would they be defending KFC lol it's not like they're on a salary or anything. Obviously all KFC'S don't do this. It all depends on who the GM/Franchisee is at your location. And that pretty much applies for all fast food chains.

I worked in a KFC/taco bell combo over 20 years ago and we never wouldve done this. All the food was tossed as soon as it was supposed to be. This is bad management right here.

Ya I definitely say the franchise owner is reflected, I worked not at KFC but BK and the food thrown away to me was almost repulsive, I mean food does in the bin by the minute, what saddens me is how all this thrown away food could feed so many struggling people….I’ve never seen anything like this in this video though! Most fast food establishments I’ve worked in your food is fresh as it comes cause it’s thrown away in minutes if not sold

That's crazy the KFC I worked at we threw everything away at the end of the night this store right here is just being cheap

Heather Hurst reasoning for this is that many KFC’s tend to hire younger people and promote them to manager without them having any experience. Fast food restaurant attract younger groups of people then older and educated people. My older brother worked at a Burger King and had to quit due to the manager being lazy and not enforcing the rules given. This isn’t KFC’s fault entirely or at all depending on how you see it.

@@Venuz117 Well it isn't only kfc in my area there uset to be a mcdonalds and wendys the problem with the mcdonalds is that the place was old and the logo was messed up because there was no L so it was mcdonads and they failed a health inspection. With the wendys they were good but they took to long and they sold dr*gs by saying a code and they would add it to your meal.

I used to work for browns chicken and they never did this. We could take home whatever was leftover from the day and they would throw out the rest of it but they would not serve the leftover stuff the next day. It is a health hazard. The only thing i didnt like is they would only drain they crumbs out of the oil they never changed the oil the entire time i was there but i dont know how long you can do that for. I didnt work there for too long.

A true management concern

You have to take into consideration that these fast food places are franchises so not every location will have these same procedures.

my mom used to work at kfc when she was a teen and im 21 now but she used to say she and the workers would bring the leftover food home all the time

Imagine going to McDonald's and getting anything other than potato wedges or a chicken little.

I used to work in fast food restaurants before, and let me tell you - unless the owner of the franchise isn't defying the company regulations, this will never happen. I remember back in 2013, when I worked at McDonalds, we had a rule to throw out any products older than 8 minutes sitting on displays. We usually had full bags of completely ok burgers, thrown out just because of that. And I can imagine in any other fast food business, there is no way you would reuse food. This is probably just some disgusting pig disobeying rules of the franchise.

You are correct, KFC has many controls for product, when I was younger I worked there and everything was tagged with expiration times. Once expired it was pulled. Always. These guys obviously had trash management and were cooking too much when you're expected to make less quantity more often so the waste is less. To be fair, I've heard that the franchisees get totally hosed and it's a massive investment, so it creates a perverse incentive for some to cheat to recoup their investment.

This reflects on the franchise owner more than KFC. KFCs food standards are pretty strict, and this is not how they teach their franchise owners to do things. I’m a sanitation practice consultant, and work with many fast food restaurants. Problems like this stem from shady franchise owners, looking to cut costs. I’m usually the guy that shows up when corporate takes over a restaurant due to problems like this. I train staff on how to prevent cross contamination, proper cleaning techniques, and how to properly store different types of foodstuffs.

SBARRO Pizza stores DOES THAT "A LOT". Its hard to even hide it because you can clearly see its the crust and the looks aren't fresh anymore. They way they do it, when you choose/point a pizza, best chance they got picked the OLD one until a customer complain and have it replaced. They do that ALLL THE TIME.

This aint all kfc locations,the manager needs fired and ownership needs to be transfered immediately.

That's not the KFC way, that's a rogue franchise location. The manger is responsible if he is instructing people to operate this way. I worked at KFC a complete year my senior year in high school back on 1989 and we got in trouble for giving the days' leftover food to homeless who would come by at closing. So we started placing the food in containers, then inside a trash bag and placed it on top of the dumpster and instructed the people to wait and then go get the bag. The manager would literally stand at the door to see we threw it away. In his defense, it's a liability to give food to people out the back door and it can encourage people who are able to pay to come and get it free, AND it was dangerous to interact with people out a back door at night - we could have been robbed, or worse. We were all teenagers after all. So there are two sides, but we never kept ANY food to serve the next day and there were timeframes during the day we had to dump food. Leftovers at the end of the night were under 3 hours old. We could take it home or throw it out. A good manager and crew also know how to prep to avoid a lot of leftovers. #facts

As a professional chef , what is being done here is dangerous to the health of anyone consuming any of this . The potential for food poisoning is very very high . From a hygiene point of view if the authoritys here in the UK where to discover such practices the restaurant in question would be shut down with immediate effect . I used to work at a taco bell in a white neighborhood. I personally saw the manager hock a loogie in someone's cheesy potatoes. Don't get me started on the other shit that went down if you want to say ghetto, and make yourself seem racist.

I worked for them for years while in high school. It was the cleanest kitchen I’ve ever worked in. NEVER recycled cooked chicken. Always took home leftovers or had them as a late night snack after midnight shinny hockey practice with my buddies. This is definitely an OWNER issue. They should be shut down or retrained.

Idk. I’d say it depends on the specific location. I mean a tacobell in my area has some pretty unsanitary things going on, but there’s no evidence of that same thing happening in another that’s also nearby. So it may not be like that in the one you work at, but it may be like that there

It depends on the owner. I worked at pizza hut. The owner has 3 stores. We all kept our stores immaculate. The owner made sure. There was a nearby pizza hut that got shut down because someone got sick. Turns out their store wasn't marking dates and held all sauce toppings and cheese over until they sold. Didn't matter how old it was. Owners like that need to be shut down. As an employee I would have refused. I you are to afraid to, remember you could be held liable if you kill someone.

i work at kfc when we are finished cleaning we either take the left over food home or throw it away we never ever do this, if my store manager saw this video he would flip this video disgusts me🤮 update: people are still replying to my comment that i made over a year ago, yes i work at kfc from australia, no i am not lying to try saving my company. when we close we try selling as much as we can before we throw it out because we feel bad, anyone who is still working can feel free and take food home if not everything goes in the bin. australians do it differently, its promised to you that my restaurant is very strict on being clean as we have head office that checks up on us, we would loose our job if any disgusting behaviour like this is done. also don’t forget this video was uploaded 6+ years ago things have changed, i assure you any fast food place can get sued for behaviour like this especially if someone gets sick! we are allowed to take food home as we worked all day and obviously do get hungry as our breaks are much earlier than expected. its not stealing if our store manager approves of it, its funny how people are telling me that i dont work at KFC like they live with me or something.🤣
