I feel like hes referring to the fact that normally the host asks questions and the guest answers. But in this case it was just the guest talking and not really letting the host ask questions. At least im just assuming thats what he meant.

I gained a huge amount of respect for Stephen Colbert for this interview. He recognized the beautiful amazing and funny energy of Kevin Smith and just let him talk. This never could have happened with hosts like Jay Leno, David Letterman, or Jimmy Fallon. I highly doubt even Conan O'Brien could have had the respect and the humble recognition necessary to keep from intervening and ruining it. Maybe Craig Ferguson could, but he was a rare man as well. I really hope Stephen Colbert makes it for decades to come. He's too talented to not be successful.

That is the mark of a great interviewer, when they can gauge the personality of their guest and modify the questions to what they are saying instead of what you already planned. Stephen is one of the best thinkers on his feet he can come up with stuff quickly.

i miss Craig. he was by far the best at getting his guests to open up and act like humans instead of advertising whatever project they were working on.

Kevin is the king of podcasting. I've been listening to smodcast, edumacation, Jay and Silent Bob Get Old, Talk Salad and Scrambled Eggs, and Hollywood Babble-On for years. He's literally my favorite living storyteller.

TESD has gotten pretty unbearable to listen to unfortunately. Brian alternates between bitching about absolutely nothing, complaining about the cushy life he fell ass-backwards into, and talking at length about topics he clearly doesn't understand. Seriously Brian, in what other universe can a lazy, uneducated nobody like you get handed a spot on an AMC show, by the same successful director friend you were crappy to and jealous of? He should be so humbled, but somehow he's still a bully. Q is hardly there anymore with the success of Impractical Jokers and is becoming harder to relate to as his fame and ego grow. Can't really blame him for enjoying it, but all he has to talk about is the last Jokers related event he was involved in. Walt is always Walt, and he's a pleasure to listen to, but he's gotten less able to rein Brian in and is perhaps less willing to bust balls. He's the only adult at the table. The ads he does at the beginning with his daughter are adorable though! He seems like a really great dad. TESD was best when it was three friends telling funny stories about how they grew up.

Best. Interview. Ever. The contrast between this and Silent Bob is the largest contrast of anything ever.

Fuck me, Kevin Smith's geniality is contagious.

Kevin Smith is one of the most fun people to follow on Facebook, and he's so very genuine and raw. But most importantly, he's exactly the kind of father I want to aspire to be when I have a kid. He's such a dorky dad and is unapologetic about how much he loves and boasts his daughter.

Stephen really earned his keep with this interview, didn't he? I mean, seriously. He spoke less than Eleven in Stranger Things.

Better than asking boring questions. He let Kevin go and only cut in to make sure Kevin got through everything he was there for before his time was up. Makes me miss Craig Ferguson's talk show, he got so many interesting stories out of his guests because he refused to follow format.

+John Klein a big plus one on the Craig Ferguson thing. I loved that show in the "old days." he was on the nerdist podcast and killed it a while back.

He's so busy fan-girling, he forgets to plug his own movie, and Stephen Colbert has to do it for him!

It's so endearing how he's been in the business sooo long yet he still has this childlike vulnerability when he met Stephen. He's really kept himself super humble and it's refreshing. It's so rare...

MAJOR kudos to Colbert for just sitting back and letting Kevin Smith do his thing. That's a mark of a great host.

Same here. Only thing I've ever really seen from him was The Flash episode he directed, and that was a great one. But from what I've heard his projects aren't fantastic. But fuck it, the guy is likable as shit and I want to meet him one day.

I had the pleasure of actually watching Kevin in his element on stage at Supercon last year. And he's just amazing at how he eases you into his stories and you just sit back and enjoy it like Stephen in this video. That's another thing, good on Stephen for actually just letting Kevin speak. Not many talk show hosts I know of show restraint like here.

Even on the the late show he can't shut the fuck up!!😂😂😂that said I love both these men! Excellent segment!!

Kevin Smith is more than a director, actor or writer. You can see from this video before all of that, he's a fan. The excitement about being on this show is amazing. Think about it.. he's made plenty of movies and has met plenty of stars but the dude is literally about to cry because he's so excited. I love this guy. I wish there were more people like him on earth. Thanks for the video!

I love watching Colbert and listening to him talk. He's a great orator he really knows how to work a crowd and he's charismatic enough to hold their attention. But I also enjoy the times where he just... listens like in the interview (if you can all it that, lol). He lets the guest push the conversation and in doing so he shows their personality. I really enjoyed this clip.

Colbert clearly lost all control of the interview... and obviously loved every minute of it. That. was. amazing.
