Kevin Schwantz the WHEELIE KING! Macau Grand Prix 1988 | Pepsi Suzuki RGV500

Спорт

Check out the Schwantz/Rainey "See God, Then Brake" t-shirt: bit.ly/4dyupzo
Ever the showman in MotoGP, the wheelie king Kevin Schwantz certainly knew how to entertain the crowd on his 500cc two-stroke Suzuki RGv500 weapon, even around the highly dangerous and challenging Macau Grand Prix street circuit with its walls and armco in super close proximity!
In 1988, Schwantz headed to the dangerous Macau street circuit with Suzuki, which also offered an opportunity to reward his five crew members with a week off in Thailand once the competition was over. With only a few practice laps under his belt, Schwantz shredded 7 seconds off the outright lap record, a testament to his riding ability.
In the race, he disappeared off into the distance and with such a commanding early lead, decided to give the crowd and the press photographers their money's worth by putting on a spectacular show of wheelies galore on his shrieking two-stroke RGV500! Sit back and enjoy this wonderful montage of retro Bike GP madness from the glory days of grand prix racing

I remember seeing Kevin Schwantz at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey Ca. During practice he came around turn four and put the bike in a wheelie, cocked it at an angle that was far from perpendicular to the asphalt, and turned to look in back of him as if he was looking back at me with my mouth wide open and hard on the gas! It was like he defied physics without effort. I will never forget that moment and often talk about it. Awesome rider and always exciting to watch in person.

The ultimate entertainer, and the best on brakes I have ever seen. I remember once in Hockenhiem where he locked up everything for about 100 meters on the final corner and took the race win.
