In the year 2000, Kevin Hines became one of only 36 (less than 1%) to survive the fall from the Golden Gate Bridge. Today, he is a best-selling author, public speaker, and award-winning documentary filmmaker who travels the world sharing his story of hope, healing, and recovery while teaching the ability to survive pain over and over again. Today, he opens up about his traumatic childhood, the day his brain broke, and the journey he has been on ever since. He discusses the instant regret he experienced as he tried to take his life, his experience in psychiatric wards, and meeting the love of his life. Kevin offers insight on how to have a conversation with someone you think may be suicidal, what he teaches people who are struggling with suicidal thoughts, and what to do when someone tells you they are suicidal. Lastly, he provides an inspiring update on his fight for a net to surround the entirety of the Golden Gate Bridge, his foundation, and offers a direct message to anyone out there considering suicide. Please: Be Here Tomorrow.

This episode made me feel sad, happy, hopeful, and grateful for life. I’m healing from past traumas and currently going through a lot of health issues and pain myself. Kevin is a miracle and an inspiration to keep living. Thank y’all for bring the amazing Kevin on The Squeeze for us and for always promoting mental health awareness. Life is hard and there’s going to be pain, suffering, and hard times. But people do care about you and no one should feel alone in their suffering. For anyone reading this- you are enough and you are loved.

It wasn’t until I got my mind back that I realized that I NEVER REALLY WANTWD TO DIE. I simply wanted the suffering to end-not my life. It took a while to learn how to create something better WITHIN, that I could then project into my outer reality. 🥰 YOU ARE NOT ALONE. TGERE IS ALWAYS HOPE. THERE IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE ONE MORE THING TO LEARN OR TO TRY…

I'm not someone who believes in coincidences or higher powers. That said, I've been having thoughts of wanting to be suicidal for months - years, really - and for this video to appear when it did; I'm not really sure what to call it. I'm just one random person, but I want to believe that somebody up there decided that I needed to hear this, and I hope that's okay. And that it comes from an actor - boy Tay - that I've been a fan of through many of the dark moments I've experienced in my life makes it all the more rewarding. I said it already but I'll say it again: I love you guys. 💕 Thank you to Kevin as well. I hadn't heard your story until today, but I'm glad I did. Thank you. ❤️

I laid in bed last night and could not stop watching this. Kevin, you are one of the most kind and compassionate people that I wish I had the pleasure of meeting in real life. Thank you for sharing your story! I had not remembered your story as I was only 6 years old at the time but boy I will never forget it now. The part where you encourage us to treat strangers with kindness really stuck with me because unfortunately there are so many people who aren't like that ,that I know of. I hope this interview reaches them and opens their eyes. We all deserve to be loved and seen. Thank you for being you, and like boy and girl Tay said, we're so glad you are here! God Bless ❤

I have a lot to say and not sure I have the words to say it but here it goes: Tay, I’m crying right along with you through this episode. Thank you for honoring Jared’s memory and dedicating your career to others dealing with what he went through. As a 26 year old who just made a huge career change and started nursing school 3 weeks ago, it’s an honor to listen and learn from you so I can take this mental health knowledge into how I care for my future patients. Kevin, thank you for your work and your strength in sharing your story. You’ve turned it into such an impactful outcome and are doing incredible things with your foundation. My biggest thanks comes to how you’ve worked with the military community. As someone in a military relationship, this is so much more important than I can ever put into words. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This was really moving. I am really glad Kevin was able to use his situation for good. Just an idea, but it would be so helpful to partner with someone who is chronically ill and dealing with suicidality. The chronically ill community is neglected, and extremely prone to suicide. Being chronically ill myself, I didn't find things like "it will get better", "just give it time" to be helpful because it doesn't always get better with time, and there's not always a lot you can do about it. I think it would be great to hear a story or hear advice from that perspective as well.

Thank you for bringing more awareness to mental health and suicide. It’s very important for those who love people who are having these thoughts and knowing how to help them. As a service member,This one really hit home and having Kevin as a guest and acknowledging the high suicide rates in the military is a problem. A few weeks ago i found out one of my friends who’s a Marine committed suicide and I’ve been struggling with the thoughts of what I could have done differently so watching this video really helped so thank you 🩷

Great interview, this topic is very important and sharing and talking about mental Health and suicidal thoughts helps a lot , very emotional episode of The Squeeze i really like what you guys are doing with this podcast and girl Tay it’s very brave of you to let the viewers see you crying a lot of people including your husband had told you that never say sorry to apologize for crying and I’m going to tell you the same thing it’s ok to cry when you connect with topics that get into your soul , i literally could be your mom , I’m going to be 46 next month and I’ve been struggling with mental health since i was a kid I learned through years and still learning that i live with this and it’s my decision to live and to be ok I’m a mother a wife a hard working woman and now that i have a lot of tools to manage that monster in my head , it’s locked down now but sometimes here and there knocks the door and refuse to let it into my thoughts,i really love your podcast and thank you girl Tay and boy Tay for being you and keep creating this amazing work with your podcast good vibes always 🙌🏼🙌🏼🌟🌟🌟🌟
